  1. I agree with everyone. The thing about clear water is that the fish can see the lure much easier. YES THATS OBVIOUS! but thats the point. The fish can see the lure so much better. This means that you have to disguise the lure in some way that doesn't allow the fish to be able to detect thats not real. One of the best ways of doing this is to use colors that are harder for them to see. As Ryan(senko77) said clear works well because the fish can't see it well enough to say that its not food. The basic scheme is that you need more translucent colors. The second way to do this is to use faster retreives. The faster retrieves cause the fish to see the lure as mure of a blur than a solid form. Don't worry about retrieving too fast because a bass can move 5 times faster than you can retrieve you're crankbait but do experiment to learn how fast is just fast enough. One more thing is that shallow diving crankbaits can be effective if you use them near the surface. Their body will silhouette off the water surface. This makes the lure harder to preceive for the bass ( also why spinnerbaits are so good when used fast in clear water). Hope that helps some, Mottfia Another

  19. You want something that will easily go through the cover. a good example of this is a worm compared to a tube. The worm's tail makes it hard for the worm to fall into gaps. While a tube can easily slide in to places. extra appendages give the lure more chances to catch the cover and not penetrate. The ticket to flipping is that you want a lure that will get to the fish but not fall too fast for the fish to react to it. Action isn't as important in heavy cover than fall rate.( the fish won't be able to see the whole thing well anyhow) Narrow trailers will slip into cover well but may cause the jig to fall too fast. check the fall rate. about a foot per second is the norm for me but remember to play around with it some and let the fish decide. Hope that helps some Mottfia
  20. YES!!! Give it a try! Its a very effective trailer! I have even read about some Pros that do it under all flipping situations. My selection on size is based on water clarity. Under stained and muddy conditions, I use a 6" lizard on my jig. I do bite the head on the lizard off. Its a bulky bait that moves alot of water but that's perfect for lower visibility water and heavy cover. Under clear water conditions , I'll throw a 4" lizard on a bitsy jig. leave the head on this time. This combo can be swimmed or flipped effectively. Its very natural looking and works great it ponds. Jigs are tools that can be manipulated easily to emulate anything that you wish or create something new. I heavily encourage you to play with any piece of plastic that you can put on the back of that thing. You may find a combination that no fish has ever seen. Mottfia
