  3. I'm a fan of the Netbait MacDaddy. My dad loves the sweet beaver. One thing for sure, beaver style baits work. They work just about year round on the Alabama River.
  4. Hey Guys, A few Buddies and I are setting up to try our hand at sight fishing. Can yall answer a few of my questions about this art? 1) How do you find deeper beds. 2) What clues does the bass give about its catchability based on how it moves? ( I've heard that you can learn alot the fish by watching it) 3) What methods or strategies would you use to catch fish on the bed? 4) How about targeting Big fish? Thank You, Mottfia
  5. Walk softly and carry a big stick! Good advice GK. Everyone stay safe this spring. Mottfia
  6. I like Shad colors (White, Hitch, etc) when fishing reservoirs and rivers. In ponds watermelon with a hair of the tail dyed chartreuse does well. Mottfia
  7. I don't know if this is your case but I read a story once of a guy that maintained an awesome big fish pond. double digits were regular. Over time the pond turned off and quit producing big fish and rarely produced any fish at all. The pond has managed for just big fish. The small fish were taken out so that the big uns had more to eat so when the big guys died there wasn't that many bass left to be caught. Now I doubt that this is your case cause that would take some insane managing to do that. I can say this though. There is an limit to the amount of pounds a lake can maintain. So if you took a big guy out it would free up space for a few other fish to grow in the system. But if you are like me and nearly everyone on this site, I'd say leave em. I'm sure that you have a healthy population of all sizes and you have been on fire as of late. keep it up and leave em for another person to catch another day. You never know when a kid could get hooked on fishing with one of those pigs that you caughtand released. Mottfia

  18. Dee Thomas was the guy that first started everything with a jig and eel and a 14 foot pole. The length of the pole allowed him to stay so far off the cover and still be extremely accurate. Other anglers saw it as an unfair advantage (cause he was doing "too" well with it) so they began putting restrictions on the rod length. Mottfia
  19. Squid, those rookies are for real. They are elites remember. I've been studying under one of them now for awhile and I can promise that rookie is just a label. ;D
  20. I believe that it has alot to do with a bass's adaptibility. In order to be in such a wide variety of conditions they must have conditioning that tells them to feed experimentally. Cause I'm sure that there ain't the same forage everywhere . This could be why Bass jump on some crazy stuff. Imagine this, a bass has been transplanted to Japan. I'm about 99.9 % positive that Japan doesn't have the same baitfish or any fish that we do. So if that bass is to survive, he/she must eat and eat soon. What does that mean? Let's start sampling until it finds something that supplies it with enough energy to survive. So to a bass that pink trickworm may be a sampling effort. But Bass have grown used to eating a few specific forages and will even key in on them at times. So why not throw something that resembles what they are keying on? Mottfia P.S. I agree that a billion lure colors is too much to deal with. Find a system or train of thought that you have confidence in and just go fishing.
