Attention Old Ambassadeur Fans
What's the harm in asking? The worst they can say is no. I asked a friend of mine in Japan to contact Avail about some spools. They never made the spools I wanted, but the President of Avail took on the project personally, and I got my spools. I guess that old saying is true. "You'll Never Know Unless You Ask". You should see some of the Japanese Ambassadeur websites, and Yahoo Auction! Tons of Ambassadeurs.

Attention Old Ambassadeur Fans
I talked to Jeff back in March at the Fred Hall Show. I told him that there were a lot of Ambassadeur fanatics that were looking for this size bearing. I told him to join our FB group, and take a poll to gage interest in this size bearing. The responses were overwhelming positive, so now we wait until they come out. I guess He underestimated the size of the Ambassadeur Community, we're large, and world wide! I already reserved 5 sets.

No,not the chronology challenged, but guys like me who still enjoy fishing with Classic Ambassadeurs, and also those who like to upgrade, and tune them. I've been in contact with Jeff Brooks of Boca Bearings, and they're going to bring a new bearing to the market that is a direct replacement for the stock brass bushing. As anyone who has tried to convert a bushing reel to bearings knows, you either had to modify the spool,or change out a bunch of parts to convert them. With this new bearing, all you'll need to do is swap out the bushings, and add a spool centering cushion, and a spool centering shim. The bearings will be ABEC7 ceramics, so the upgrade will be noticeable. The extra parts needed cost about $8 on top of the cost of the bearings, so it's also less than the price of a new spool, and pinion gear. Date of release is not yet set,so I will update this post when I have a confirmed date.

Anyone??
No,I need to see the spool out of the reel.

Anyone??
Didn't see a picture of the spool. If you can post some, that would be helpful.

Anyone??
It's probably a standard Ultracast reel. You can probably use parts from other reels to upgrade it. I'm sure you can add a dual bearing worm gear, and cog wheel. If it has bushings, you can swap them out for bearings.

Anyone??
It's a 5000. In the Abu Garcia schematics page, enter the foot number in the search. If that doesn't work, type in 5000,or scroll the 5000 schematics until you find the model.if all else fails, call them up.

Low Mass/shallow Spool For Ambassadeur 5500C3?
Have you tried calling Purefishing to see if they have a spool available? The part number is 1124110. This number is for a complete spool assembly, there's no number for just the spool itself.

Which Casting Reel Upgrades
12 bearings,lightweight Avail spool,magnetic brakes,and a skeletized line guide. Yeah,it was worth it!

Major Craft Nanoace Rods
I was going to order a couple of rods online, maybe now I'll wait until they bring them over to see what rods they offer. I did order a Palms Molla 65ML just to see how it feels. The fit and finish is top notch, and the rod is super light. I also like the fact that most JDM rods have a fore grip as I lime to hold the rod above the reel.

Abu Ambassadeur Reel
Does the frame have red inner plates? If not, then it's a 5500C. There are no Hi-speed 5000's of that era.just scrool the schematics and look for 5500c 79-08-04.pdf and click on the link. You'll find all the part numbers you'll need for replacement parts. The only difference between your reel, and reels made after 1975 is the star drag wheel, and the spool pinion gear. Parts are available, and upgrading parts from newer reels are compatible with your reel ( think dual bearing cog wheels, dual bearing worm gears.

Origin Of Daiwa "ultralight" Or Bfs Casters?
The PL Series Daiwas were also great little reels for throwing worms and splitshotting. I have a brand new PS-10 that was one of their 1st low profile reels that had bushings instead of bearings, and a new PL100.

Boron Rods
I have 10 Phenix Boron rods, and I still fish with them. Not to disparage you Fenwick lovers, but the Phenix line of boron rods were a hell of a lot better, and had way more actions, and powers. Phenix was also one of the 1st rod companies to have technique specific rods, and they also had their Pro line of rods ( Iovino Doodlin Rod, Bobby Garland Gitzit,Mike Folksted,Rich Tauber, and a few other names. These rods were lighter, and stronger than any of the graphite rods that were on the market at that time. As for back bone,I'll put mine up against any rod on the market today, plus the diameter of the blanks are smaller than most blanks out today. Unfortunately, the cost of boron became too high, and advances in graphite rod building caused it's demise. At the height of Phenix's popularity, Japan became one of the largest markets for their rods. They were building 100's of rods a month for the Japanese market until their economy collapsed. When the original blank maker went out of business,Gary Loomis started building their blanks, and incorporated IM6 graphite into the design. I still have a few of those too,and are great rods also.Phenix was also one of the 1st companies to offer "Custom" rods to their customers, with handle, length, and wrapping options to a customers design. There were a few companies offering boron rods, but they had very little boron content(think Shakespeare Ugly Stik graphite rods that only had a single strand of graphite in them) If you had a boron rod with no back bone, yyou really didn't have a true boron rod.
