  1. JCrazy... Im from fredericksburg and am eager to make a trip back down probably next weekend to fish a bit. Post back about how your trip goes. I'm excited to see what they are doing around this time.
  2. natural colors seem to work best for me
  3. I had a longnose gar almost run into me while I was wading in the rappahannock.
  4. You could always make your own case out of pvc pipe if they don't sell any small ones. I looked around and couldn't find any. Although, that could end up taking up quite a bit of space in a backpack. Also, I don't know how much protection you would get from it, but it seems like that setup would be small enough to be covered by a large sock. I don't though. I'm sure you can find something.
  5. Thats inspiring. You did an incredible job on this boat and it will probably last another 50 years. You have me considering finding a fixer upper for next year when i move off campus!
  6. Those guys are great lookin. I think i would use them as decoration before throwing them into the water. Good work!
  7. And I will most likely be giving vabasser a ride home from tech. Can't wait to hook into some of these guys.
  8. In the rappahannock river i use a lot of double tail hula grubs texas style. They are my go to bait because they dont get lost too easy if rigged with a 4/0 offset hook. They do, however, get their tails bitten off pretty often by smaller smallmouth and bluegill. If you are wading as long as you arent fishing a particular deep spot in a river you shouldnt have a problem going up to whatever bait you are using and getting it unstuck. I will definitely start using some cranks and things that aren't quite as safe. I'll be fishing the New this spring and the Rappahannock this summer and I'll be back to the New in the fall.
  9. Anybody know of a good jig to throw that wont get caught in rocks or snagged up really easy? I fish both the Rappahannock river and the New river and things that aren't weedless really tend to not come back when you throw them in the water. Its really rocky and theres plenty of gnarly cover along the shores. Although, when its warm it no problem wading over to the problem.
  10. I have been considering recently tying my own bucktail jig. I don't have the proper supplies to mold my own jig heads and was wondering what the best jig head would be for tying my own. I can not seem to find one that doesn't have a barb or something like it. Would the barb get in the way of tying the hair to the jig?
  11. That sounds like a great deal, but the closest Bass Pro Shop is 3 hours away so the gas wouldn't be worth it. Thanks a lot for the reply
  12. This is my first post on bass resource but will not be my last. I am about to purchase my first smallmouth combo which will be used probably just 10 or so days per summer for largemouth. For the reel I am pretty set on the Phlueger President. I am stuck between a rod from BPS and Cabelas. The two links are here http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/horizontal-pod.jsp?id=0037131&navCount=1&parentId=cat20287&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20287&parentType=index&indexId=cat20287&rid= http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_59170_100003002_100000000_100003000_100-3-2 I realize that the one from basspro is 30 more dollars and am wondering if this extra money is worth the assumed extra performance. I am also very open to any other suggestions for better combos around this price range. I feel like the 6730x with a 6' 6" rod would be the best for the type of all around fishing I do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  13. Stay back far from it and cast past it with a finesse jig. If it's heavily fished the main thing is to make sure they don't see you and that your presentation is convincing
  14. I can't wait to start jigging the New river this year. It's a technique I overlooked the last couple of years. Thanks for starting this thread
  15. For the most part though as long as you don't have super salty worms you shouldnt have a problem
  16. Thats an awesome idea. Do you get a lot of clay mixed in though?
  17. I'm really low on supplies but things are looking much better. I have hit e-bay for a few good deals that I'm really happy about. Sweet for rapalas that are normally too expensive. Of course you also have to take into account shipping
  18. try a gary yamamoto double tail hula grub fished slowly and popped off the bottom next to dropoffs. Smallies usually group up in deeper water during the winter.
  19. That sounds awesome. Thanks for the post. Can't wait to try it
  20. I have never bent mine down but after reading this post it seems to be the thing to do. Thanks for starting it.
  21. I fish on the New and Rappahannock rivers. I can't wait this year to start canoing them but all other years I have just waded.
  22. I prefer lipping just because you get the feel of the fish right away in your hand. Theres nothing like it.
