Brush Hog20

Any topwater, pop r's, buzzbaits, jitterbugs, etc. been a couple seasons now that I just have not had a good topwater bite. The fish around here just quit looking up....

I think so, but then I was raised fishing plastics almost exclusively. I have be trying to branch out to other lures lately but like skillet I always think I am missing fish when I am not throwing plastics. So I have very littles patience for other lures. Which is ironic because I have ample patience to fish a plastic painfully sloooow... ;D

J I have a whole fly box of stones I have never used. I will give em a try. Thanks for the tip and fly pics. I fish about 20 miles of stream for smallies thats 40 mins from my door. Nice piece of water and pretty unique for my part of the state (central IA). I also get to the white river in N Arkansas to fish for trout two or three times a year. p.s. I would love to see a tutorial..

Awesome. Not caught one on a popper yet. Mostly on wooly buggers and clousers I tie myself. Definately going to try poppers this year tho..

Anyone else on this forum fly rod for smallies? I throw a baitcaster to largemouth the majority of the time, but for just pure fishing enjoyment for me there is nothing better than smallmouth on the fly..Just wondering if anyone else out there fly fish for red eyes.

One more vote for Zoom Horny Toad..

This is a tough question because in my mind would I pick what catches the most fish or what enjoy catching fish on the most? Since I fish for enjoyment and not limits I would have to say Zoom Horny Toad. Nothing excites me more when they explode on the toad...

I have a 9' pond prowler. It fishes me and a buddy okay. It fishes just me beautifully. I love it. I have acess to limitless small lakes and ponds so it fits the bill nicely. They are extremely simple to own, just make sure your battery has a full charge before you go and all you have to worry about is fishing not gas prices or crowded ramps or whatever..My advice is buy with confidence and don't look back, you really can't go wrong with any of them....

I experienced the same thing recently. I plugged away all day with T-rigged plastics, jigs, slow rolling spinners fishing the in the grass. I had caught a few on a jerk bait on rip rap points. I threw the jerk bait and the bank that dropped off to the submerged grass just to see, I got hung up and frustrated I just ripped the jerk bait out of the top of the grass and started craking in so I could cast again, then bam! Ah Ha I thought to myself. I swicthed to a bomber shallow A in baby bass and a steady retrieve.. Killed em the rest of the day...Probably could have caught 50 that day if I had figured it out sooner... So try shallow crankin over the submerged grass...

God Bless California..250 bucks for a fishing lure and $1M for a 1200 square foot fixer upper..... ;D No need to spend more than the price of a package of Brush Hogs...Thats what catches em the most... ;D I could have 100 LC's still won't out catch the HOG! ;D

I fish Horny Toads crotch hooked with a red 5/0 Gammy. Stays perfectly weedless and I have yet to miss a strike since I started crotch hooking the toad last summer...I have almost completely stopped fishing hollow bodies..

I own several citica's great reel for the $....a little heavy but very trustworthy...I hardly ever backlash it.....I mean professional over-run it.... ;D

BRUSH HOG! ;D Not only do they just flat out catch fish they are tough and can hold a hook like nobody's business and you can get multiple fish out em before they are ruined. I have used the Kreature and it has nice action but the things are just weak...they last one fish if your lucky and don't get it hung up before you get a chance to set a hook...

ZOOM mostly but I am not exclusive by any means.. But I generally will toss a ZOOM plastic more ofthen than not...I just like the way they hold a hook and can get more than one fish out of them..

I don't know what size water you are fishing, but I used to fish a lot of farm ponds and the best thing I ever did when fishing them was to wear waders so I could get out past all the junk....Before you step in however drag that horny toad across the junk a few times....

Brush Hog of course.... ;D I have never used the baby brush hog. I have used the tiny brush hog as a trailer. I fish a lot of off color and stained water. I like the the extra action and vibration of the Papa Brush Hog.

x2 on the side cutters. I always carry a pair with me. I just buy the cheapest ones I can find and the hardware store..

Cabelas real image poppers in pearl and Zoom Horny Toads.

I swim a size 2 black/white wooly bugger I tie myself on a 6 wt flyrod most of the time. I have also caught them on a craw colored wiggle wart on spinning tackle.

.....Coffee, Jerky, water, Miller Lite..In that order....
