Brush Hog20
I don't know what size water you are fishing, but I used to fish a lot of farm ponds and the best thing I ever did when fishing them was to wear waders so I could get out past all the junk....Before you step in however drag that horny toad across the junk a few times....
crazy4bass1
i fish about 90% of the time from shore i have always had success with jigs, 4" senkos, small crankbaits, and tubes on my home lake, there are several dropoffs close to shore, alot of fish like to hide under these, try to find one and you can catch them all day
Davis
Cast parallel to the shore and weedbeds.
Shabalala
I fish primarily from the bank. I prefer the boat trip (less walking), but not all of us have that luxury. The best advice I have is to not be afraid to walk. On an average fishing trip for myself and a friend, we may walk around the pond/lake 2 or 3 times before we leave. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary if we walked 5 or 6 miles each time.

Zel
I mostly fish from a boat, but many times when I only want to go out for a few hours, or take the kids out, I often fish from the bank. Personally, I really enjoy fishing from the bank. It forces me to really try hard and figure out an area, and switch up to see what interests the bass, because you don't have the luxury of moving as much as you do in a boat. I think it really helps to hone your skills and makes you a better angler. I take the time to figure out where productive areas are on the lake with some varied changes in structure favorable to bank fishing - and concentrate on them. A pair of waders helps. In the past I took 2 rods along with me, but lately only go with one anymore, a 7ft spinning rod for distance, and a bass snap to make quick changes of lures. I caught 4 out of my 5 biggest bass last year fishing from the bank. We have a Fish'N'Ski for anywhere, a 14' jon boat moored at an electric only lake, and I still fish about 25% of the time from the bank. Hey LBH How's this design I came up with for a shirt -- for your website (showed it to someone else who does shirts, but they never got back to me):
BassinBoy
I fish from the bank alot in ponds. Some of the biggest tips that I can give you are 1. Cast parallel to the bank most of the time, you will run your bait past more bass if you do this. 2. Match the forage in the pond you are fishing, (most likely bluegill, small minnows, crawfish, and frogs). This helps when the bass know what they are eating. 3. Be versitile and experiment with different lures and techniques. Read up and get as much knowlege as you can about bass.
Rattlinrogue
I have a boat but sometimes because of time constraints,I'll fish from the bank.It is really refreshing to do it that way from time to time.I had my best day fishing last year bassin' on the bank(I had a doctor's appointment and wouldn't have time to fool with the boat).I fish a bait that is in sync with conditions, time of year, ability to cast from the bank, etc.I usually end up fishing a Texas rigged plastic of some kind although I've used topwaters,cbaits,jbaits,jig-n-pig,etc.

fishizzle
I put my daughter in my backpack and walk he shore all summer. At 15 months, sha was able to say "fishy" During the week is from shore and on the weekends from a boat. I power fish the bank-- cast and move so I can cover more water until I find some quality fish or cover worth stopping for. I like to throw texas rig so I can chuck it far
Quinn
I do. Sometimes I get to go with my brother in his boat. Alot of the areas I fish only allow electric motors. I learned alot from the articles on BR. Read all of the "fishing tecniques" on bank fishing. They helped me alot. PS see my avitar pic I updated, nice one and some others fishing from the bank at a local lake.
HesterIsGod
I do. My advice, fish small ponds and rivers that you can walk around and fish every bit of it.

Turtle.
Alot of great info here. The only thing I would add, when fishing smaller lakes and ponds is be steathy, walk light wear more nutral colors try to blend in a bit. Also when i get to a spot I stop 20' or so from the bank and make some long casts before moving to waters edge. When moving I'll move back away from the water then move to my next spot and repeat.Alot of nice bass can be had from the bank. Good luck and have fun.
bassmedic46
New to fishing and have no access to a boat so I shore fish, Just got a set of waders and use live bait. ksdog
I walk/wade all of the time. Usually am throwing a texas rig with 1/8th oz bullet weight. Fav's are worms, baby brush hog, tubes, and small jigs. I have a pole holster called third grip that holds the spare rod. In my confidence areas I'll spend more time. Otherwise , I run and gun. Stuck a real decent fish last week in 48* water. It can be done.

wareagle83
I definitely agree a stealthy approach is key in bank fishing. But everyone has his or her own ways in going about it.

You could try wearing a nice polo shirt or a nice suit, you know draw the attention away from your fishing rod. A bass fishing shirt just lets them know your fishing for them. If you want to get real radical go to a local dept. store and buy a nice dress, maybe they'll think your an innocent teenage girl stopping by the lake after prom. (I've never tried this personally its only in theory) But thats real camoflage, the fish won't even think you're fishing p.s. this wasn't to be taken serious by anybody. If I see anybody fishing in a dress I'm going to take a picture and post it on the forum
