It's time to reveal the next Bass Resource.com Elite Member for October 2008. This member has become a regular, positive contributor to the daily happenings here at BR, spending lots of his time in the Tackle Making section. He's been making some killer looking swimbaits lately and the paint jobs he can lay down are really slick. So let's give a big round of applause for the youngest Elite Member so far,
dsaavedra
General:
Name: David A. Saavedra
Age: 16
City/State: Mechanicsville, Maryland
Occupation: Student
Education: Junior year in highschool
Yrs fishing: I have been fishing ever since I can remember. I think it was for my third birthday my parents got me a red Zebco spincasting combo. I used it so much the handle started to wear a hole in the side of the spool housing. My mom would take me bluegill fishing at the local park a few times during the summer, and my dad and I would go saltwater fishing in a friends boat a few times a year. It wasn't until October 23, 2005 that I caught my first bass, and i have been bass fishing very seriously ever since.
Preferred style (describe a typical, quality day): A quality day for me would be fishing in a small, relatively shallow lake will all sorts of cover. Stumps/laydowns and sparse lily pads are probably my favorite types of cover to fish.My two weapons of choice: Rapala DT, *** 5" ***. Throwing the DT around the hard cover, and throwing the Trick Stick around the soft cover.
Personal:
Fav food: Hmmm...toughie...very tough...but you can never go wrong with a juicy, well-seasoned cheeseburger.
Fav movie: This is very tough. I don't think I could narrow it down to just one. My top three are definitley Napoleon Dynamite, Pulp Fiction, and Borat.
Fav quote: My favorite quote would be the lyrics to one of my favorite songs. This is a really intense song and draws a lot of emotion. Not many songs make me feel the way this one does.
"Life it seems, will fade away
Drifting further every day
Getting lost within myself
Nothing matters no one else
I have lost the will to live
Simply nothing more to give
There is nothing more for me
Need the end to set me free
Things not what they used to be
Missing one inside of me
Deathly lost, this can't be real
Cannot stand this hell I feel
Emptiness is filling me
To the point of agony
Growing darkness taking dawn
I was me, but now he's gone
No one but me can save myself, but it's too late
Now I can't think, think why I should even try
Yesterday seems as though it never existed
Death Greets me warm, now i will just say goodbye"
Fade to Black-Metallica
Fishing:
Fav bait: Rapala DT. The individual model will vary depending on what depth I'm fishing. the DT 03 has been one of my biggest producers this year.
Fav set up (rod/reel): St. Croix Avid AC70MF paired with a Shimano Citica 100DSV spooled with 30lb moss gree Power Pro.
Fav lake: My favorite lake would be the mid-sized, secluded, Jameson Lake. Only people who live in the neighboorhood surrounding it are supposed to have access, and I get access to the lake because my aunt lives in that neighboorhood. The lake is mid-sized, mid-depth, and has lots of good lily pads and laydowns.
Fav hobbies other than fishing: Lure making (swimbaits in particular), building things, destroying things , wood burning, drawing (only if it is of things I like, like bass ), listening to music, spending time around water.
10 People you respect and/or admire:
My father
My mother
Paul Noles
Sam Rosenthal
Brent Bollinger
Kirk Hammett
James Hetfield
Cliff Burton
Theodore Roosevelt
Myself (self respect is important )
Turn ons: Good fishin', good music, good food, solving problems, being constructive.
Turn offs: Overrated stuff, conformists, fads, and people who just don't know what they are talking about but will argue to their death about it.
Aspirations: I just want to be successful. I really dont want much. I just want to get a college degree, a nice career, get a house, and just be well off. I definitley DO NOT want to be a pro fisherman, I really dislike tournament fishing. I will only ever fish for recreation.
Essay: Fishing is probably the biggest factor that has affected my life. There is nothing I'd rather do than fish. Education is another big factor. I've always done very well in school, and my parents push me to do the best I can possibly do. It has paid off, I excell in all of my classes. Sometimes school isn't challenging enough and its extremely boring. Thinking about fishing gets me through the days . Music is definitley a major factor and influence in my life. I don't know where I would be without it. As most of you know, Metallica is my favorite band ever. Their music is just so good, and it carries a lot of meaning with it. I'm really not into their music for the thrash (although there's nothing wrong with that ), I'm in it for the meanings and messages. They are musical geniuses and their work reflects that. Their songs pack a lot of emotion and influence, and I really enjoy listening to the music and deciphering the songs' meanings. Ahhh....I digress... I really don't have many influence. I tend to stick to my own values and I don't let ANYONE change that. In the words of Metallica "Life is for my own to live my own way". I just live life my own way and make the decisions that seem right to ME. I am my greatest influence.
I'm really not into sappy stuff, but in closing, I'd just like to thank all the guys that run Bass Resource for making it such a wonderful site, all the advertisers that keep this place running, and all the people on here for being helpful and supportive!
This is probably the happiest you will ever see me. Me at age 13 with my very first bass. No fishing day will ever live up to that one.
Congratulations Dave!
