You could gear down to the Fritts 4.7:1. I pull DD22's all summer long, every summer with the 4.7:1 and never have any problems. The DD22 is in the Top 3 on my favorite bait list. The MH rod is fine. I personally like a 7'6" M for deep cranks but thats just my preference. When using big crankbaits, think about it like mountain biking. You see a big hill that will take lots of energy to climb, you just switch gears and the hill is no problem. You might have to make more pedal rotations going up that hill but the energy/power it takes to make those rotations has been reduced significantly by switching gears......you still climb the hill and you've not burnt yourself out. Gears are your friends.

Right there is one hell of a hook. Sharpest I have ever used. Oh yeah....wouldn't buy any other trebles. You want in on some next time I order? I'll just send you some, I owe you anyway.

I'd do it the way Dave explained. Some good replacement trebles would be Daiichi Death Traps. Crazy sharp hooks, very strong and the points stay sharp for a LONG time.
  6. Yep, big surprise huh? Burley is a good dude. No kidding.
  7. KVD Line and Lure Conditioner Welcome to the forums!
  8. Priority #1 in the fall for me is to find the shad. I wont make a cast until I've seen a good population of shad in an area. The bass will be in close proximity to the schools of bait. The schools of bait will often be out in the middle of a deep creek, out in the main lake or in coves, just hanging over deep water. The key is to try to pinpoint the depth of the bait schools and fish that area or right around it. Keep changing baits until you get bit but stay in that depth zone and close to the shad. If the shad are somewhat shallow you can just burn down the bank fishing whatever cover you can find. This method gets better/easier as the shad move further into the creeks. Once they get all the way back its a free-for-all.
  9. Unless you're just hel bent on fishing every tournament, I'd skip the FL event. If the fish happen to be spawning then, that's the very best scenario to get front-ended. ALL DAY LONG.
  10. ....and still WAY overpriced! :
  11. FOM, I wouldn't take that if I were you.
  12. I would agree to a certain extent except when you get a new coach. Those aren't the players he recruited for "his" program. For example look at Michigan. Compare Carr's offenses to the offenses Rodriguez had at WVU. Especially the style of QB. Rodriguez is trying to run his offense with Carr's players and it doesn't look like it's going to be pretty for a while. I understand what you're saying but switching a coach does not constitute a 'rebuilding' year. He's playing with the cards he's been dealt and he knew that going in. He can't trade any of them and he can't sign free agents.....if he could, then he could call it a rebuild......getting new pieces and parts to fix something that is broken. A new coach 'builds' a team for his tenure there and what he wants to accomplish. That cannot be done in one year unless he gets a whole class of freshman studs. He might recruit Johnny Halfback but Johnny Halfback is still in high school. It may take the coach 2, if not 3 seasons before he sees Johnny run on the field.
  13. The term 'rebuilding' has no place in College Football. That's a cop-out. You've either got a good team or you don't. Rebuilding takes place when you can draft players, trade players, cut players and sign free agents.....as in the NFL. Not slamming you FOM, but the term 'rebuilding' gets slung around way too much in college ball.
  14. Hey tumnus....hang in there man. VT just announced that they are bringing back Tyrod Taylor. Beamer saw what a crappy team he put on the field against ECU and decided to bring Tyrod back.
  15. I want to hear Burley's take on the Tennessee game last night.....sure would be nice if he could wipe away the tears and give us some commentary. Thanks UCLA, the weekend is complete now!
  16. On that note.....see you fellas tomorrow! : ;D
  17. LOL!!! The beetle spin........that lure catches everything! Pickeral, catfish, carp, bass, gills, walleye, crappie, the list goes on.
  18. I hear ya B....I certainly don't agree but I do hear you. I'm not starting in on Irvin, I gotta go to bed. Maybe tomorrow.
  19. Lucky Craft CB-MR (American Shad) crankbait, what else?
  20. Yeah, me too, I use braid whenever I want to fish a jig with a spinning rod. Sometimes I'll use a heavy fluorocarbon leader in real clear water situations.
  21. There's a small stream near me, maybe 25-30 ft across that connects with the upper James River and it's loaded with smallmouth of all sizes. I only carry 3 baits when I go there. - 5" Power Bait shaky worm on a 3/16 oz Spot Remover - Tiny Torpedo - 1/4 oz finesse jig (brown) with a Zoom Tiny Chunk (pumpkin)
  22. It's very tough to make structure. You'd have to drain the lake, rent some heavy equipment, dig and move dirt around until you came up with something you and the fish would like. Making cover, on the other hand is quite simple. First, you should make sure it's not against the law. Then, get yourself a pile of brush, wrap some 12 ga copper wire around the pile, attach a cinderblock or two to the bottom of the pile and heave it in the lake wherever you want it. The fish are not real picky about what you sink as long as it creates a spot for them to hang out and ambush food when it comes by. Some think pine trees arent good to sink because of the sap release but I sink X Mas trees every year and they don't seem to have any problem getting fish to hang around them. You should also consider sinking something in water deep enough that it can't be seen or else you'll have everybody plus their families and friends fishing it nonstop.
  23. In my experieences with Yamamoto's, Dingers, Tiki's, etc...I can't tell a difference between any of them as far as catching fish goes. The Yamamoto's do have a different texture than the others and, with no specific scientific testing on my part, the originals seem to fall just a little faster than the other stickbaits. I'm not sure how true it is but I've heard that Yamamoto uses sand in their baits which creates a slightly heavier plastic with a totally different texture. The texture is the only significant difference I have found between all of the available stickbaits. Catch rate is virtually the same across the board.....and that IS what it's all about, right?
  24. PacMan entered the NFL, started getting the huge paychecks and didn't know how to handle himself........or his thug buddies for that matter. The $ made him think he was above the law. Hopefully Mr Goodell changed his outlook for him cause I dont think Michael Irvin is going to be much help. And don't get me started on Michael Irvin.
