Time to take it up a notch
Team9 made a good point about fishing with a more experienced deep water fisherman....the only problem I see with that is actually finding someone who knows some honey holes that is willing to take you to them, show you how to find them, explain whats what when you get there and how to fish them. Those guys are really hard to find. Or real expensive.

I was just using the free Ad-Aware....evidently it can't remove whatever's taken over my computer. I have not contacted them but I probably should.

Need recommendations on virus scanning
I'm looking for a site that can clean out my computer quickly. I've used Ad-Aware in the past but its just not getting it done anymore. I think I've got something more than Ad-Aware can get out. Ever since I downloaded Lime Wire my computer has not been the same. Loading very slow, freezing up at times etc....

Anybody following the FLW Cup?
Congratulations to Michael Bennett, he pulled out the million dollar win today. He only weighed 4 fish (one of those was dead) but ended up winning by more than 5 pounds. Claims he caught most of his fish throughout the tournament on a Snag Proof Fred Frog in a custom color. The Cup win today was his second win this season. 1 MICHAEL BENNETT LINCOLN, CA 5 16-01 4 8-14 9 24-15 $500,000 +$500,000 2 DAVE LEFEBRE UNION CITY, PA 5 13-04 5 6-08 10 19-12 $100,000 3 TERRY BOLTON JONESBORO, AR 5 10-15 5 8-10 10 19-09 $75,000 4 CHRIS BAUMGARDNER GASTONIA, NC 4 10-09 5 6-00 9 16-09 $60,000 5 KEVIN VIDA CLARE, MI 4 6-03 5 9-11 9 15-14 $50,000 6 DION HIBDON STOVER, MO 4 7-02 4 6-06 8 13-08 $45,000 7 BRENT EHRLER REDLANDS, CA 5 8-08 2 4-11 7 13-03 $40,000 8 BRIAN TRAVIS CONOVER, NC 3 8-02 2 2-15 5 11-01 $35,000 9 MARK ROSE MARION, AR 2 1-13 4 8-03 6 10-00 $30,000 10 JAY YELAS CORVALLIS, OR 4 5-09 1 1-01 5 6-10 $25,000

Time to take it up a notch
Yes, good electronics are a must for locating fish and strucure out deep. Once you've found some spots on your map, get in the area and idle around watching your finder real close. Its easier to run perpendicular to find stuff because your bottom depth will come up fast, level off and then drop down fast.....Thats a hump or possibly a roadbed. Get yourself some buoy markers and when you come onto something, throw a marker over and leave it. Keep cruising around the area and look for the roadbed somewhere else. When you find it, drop another marker. Get between your two markers and see whats there.....you'll most likely see more of the roadbed. Dont be afraid to throw out several markers along what you find. I've probably had as many as 12 - 15 markers in the water at once, mapping out where roadbeds and humps are just so I could stand back, look at what I've found and burn the picture of the marker placements into my memory. Once you've got it laid out, I like to idle around over the roadbed or hump and look for any cover thats on it. That cover on structure is key. Its the spot on a spot. All this is called doing your homework. It takes a little time but once you find some spots and understand how they lay out, it will pay off big for years to come. When you find a hump, be sure to drop your markers on the outsides of the humps where it drops back down. If you dont, you'll only be fishing the top of the hump when the fish may be hanging out on one of the sides in deeper water. Dont forget to record it all on GPS and pick up your markers.

Re: Crank Bait's At Night
Anytime you are fishing parallel to the shoreline, more than likely you are just hitting one depth through the whole retrieve. Cranking parallel should be done after you've established the depth the fish are holding at. Once you figure out the fishes depth you can really hone in and just fish THAT depth with the appropriate crankbait. To figure out their depth, the easiest way to do it is by quartering a stretch of bank. Put your boat parallel with the bank, say over 20ft of water. You want to throw ahead of the boat as far as you can but as close to the bank as you can get it. You'll be reeling at an angle that is between parallel and perpendicular to the bank. It's called quartering. Thats how most of the seaching with a crankbait begins. Once you start getting bit you will realize where the fish are holding and you can narrow it down to just that area/depth. Thats when you change your crank to match that depth. Crankin' a point is a bit different. A point that you are not familiar with, in my opinion, should FIRST be fished perpendicular straight down the middle from shallow to deep. That is the 'meat' of the spot unless there is brush or rockpiles somehere along the sides of it. If you know where brush or rock is you can just go straight to that stuff but if you don't, you've got to move around the point, fan-casting the entire area until you get bit and figure out something. Keep in mind any current or channels that are near points. If they are pulling water, the fish may be on top or on the downstream side of the point. When not pulling water, they could be anywhere around it, just roaming. I feel like the very best points in any body of water are ones that dump into the main river channel (on the main lake) and have some type of cover on them whether it be rock, wood, grass, tires or just anything a bass can hide in. Crankbaits are fun to fish but you just cant go out and throw & reel them blind and expect to clean house.

Crank Bait's At Night
A DD22 is my go to bait at night, (providing the fish are feeding on or near the bottom). Green pumpkin is the one I throw in the dark. Always. Not many people throw deep cranks, even in the daytime and there's even fewer people that throw them at night. Whenever I pull up on a point, it's the very first bait I throw. I just throw it shallow, reel it slow, get it bumping slowly along the bottom until I get it out to about 8 ft and then I speed it up, keeping contact with the bottom as long as I can.

Any time I am sinking brush, I do it in the middle of winter when there are no other boats on the lake. Here's the Day 3 Standings 1. Michael Bennett -- Lincoln, Calif. -- 5, 16-01 2. Dave Lefebre -- Union City, Pa. -- 5, 13-04 3. Terry Bolton -- Jonesboro, Ark. -- 5, 10-15 4. Chris Baumgardner -- Gastonia, N.C. -- 4, 10-09 5. Brent Ehrler -- Redlands, Calif. -- 5, 8-08 6. Brian Travis -- Conover, N.C. -- 3, 8-02 7. Dion Hibdon -- Stover, Mo. -- 4, 7-02 8. Kevin Vida -- Clare, Mich. -- 4, 6-03 9. Jay Yelas -- Corvallis, Ore. -- 4, 5-09 10. Mark Rose -- Marion, Ark. -- 2, 1-13 Dion's brush didn't work out so well. Maybe he'll be able to do something with it on Sunday. Michael Bennett might become a millionaire tomorrow if he keeps doing what he's doing.

summer/fall fish finding
Summer- deep cranks and jigs anywhere from 8-25 ft deep Fall- crankbaits and spinnerbaits generally more shallow. Bass will be keying on shad big time in the fall. You find the shad, you find the bass.

BIGFOOT for real this time?
I'm like Peasey, it would be cool to have something like that come about but I doubt it's for real. I think they would have found one before now, they've been searching for Bigfoot for how many years?

In the zone
Being 'in the zone' is an awesome feeling. Most times when it happens, I'm fishing isolated brushpiles in the summertime.

Anybody following the FLW Cup?
Just about the same story as yesterday.....junk fishing. I think the only one in the Top 10 that has a 'decent' pattern going is Dion Hibdon, fishing brushpiles that he planted himself. Looks like the rest of the Top 10 is just running from spot to spot waiting for schooling fish to come up, which is a big gamble when fishing for a million bucks. Day 2 Standings 1. Michael Bennett -- Lincoln, Ca -- 5, 11-15 -- 5, 15-05 -- 10, 27-04 2. Mark Rose -- Marion, Ar -- 5, 20-02 -- 4, 6-04 -- 9, 26-06 3. Anybody following the FLW Cup?
This is for ALL THE MARBLES.....1 MILLION DOLLARS. After the Day 1 weigh in yesterday, Mark Rose had about a 3# lead over second place Vida and from Vida back to third was between 3 and 4#. Sitting in 3rd was Brian Travis, he qualified thru the TBF and is representing well. We'll see if he can keep it going 2 days in a row. Main pattern from published reports is it's a junk fishing extravaganza. Thats making it tough to get many bites thru the day. Many anglers in the Top 20 reported getting as few as 5 bites all day yesterday. Here's the leaderboard after Thursday Day 1 1. Mark Rose: 20-02 2. Kevin Vida: 17-05 3. Brian Travis: 13-15 4. Bud Pruitt: 13-13 5. Ron Shuffield: 13-09 6. Koby Kreiger: 13-02 6. Larry Nixon: 13-02 8. Carl Svebek III: 12-12 9. Andy Montgomery: 12-08 10. Michael Bennett: 11-15 11. Brent Ehrler: 11-05 12. Dave Lefebre: 10-14 13. Curt Lytle: 10-12 14. Chris Baumgardner: 10-04 15. Jay Yelas: 10-03 16. Dion Hibdon: 10-02 17. Anthony Gagliardi: 10-01 18. Terry Bolton: 9-14 19. David Dudley: 9-10 20. Mark Hardin: 9-08 I'm pulling for my boy David Dudley, hopefully he can bag enough today to slip into the cut.
