  1. Over the past 3 seasons I have lost about 10 major brushpiles that I put down myself......some of those drew fish at all times, others just every now and then, but I always checked them every trip out in the summer. I'll be replacing brush on the more productive spots real soon.
  2. David Fritts,the crankbait KING!
  3. I hear you cgs, fishing mostly small private lakes and ponds will really boost the #'s.......I'm not sure of how many I caught,I havent kept a log the past 3 years.
  4. Lucky you!I'm still waiting on my $bonus check$ from work(should be next week) to make my trip to BPS to stock up.You should at least look at the Rapala DT Flats,I've already got some, couldnt resist and they are sweet! Those cold bass in the spring like the tight wiggle of a flat crank. You can either get them with the regular trebles or the Fritts sure-set trebles(which I bought and like). Be sure to think about us "working stiffs" tomorrow while you're drooling all over the lures down there. Have fun RR.
  5. 1 point deducted from roadwarrior for hitting below the belt! ;D
  6. I dont doubt the fact that the California big bass boys are skilled bass anglers, but bring them to the East Coast and see how many tournament titles they take back with them.Chances are they would be scraping together a decent limit like everybody else.I highly doubt they would be bringing 8+ pounders to the scales with any consistency,if at all. Maybe there should be a California Tournament Trail where you have a 2 fish limit and no fish under 25 inches can be brought in and no live bait allowed. That way every competitor is forced to fish for the big one from start to finish and a true BIG BASS champ could be crowned.
  7. Amen RR......and on top of all that, when he goes Ike on a fish, its getting him face-time and lots of it.And to sponsors and others that fill his pockets, that's what it's all about! ESPN loves the fact that Ike will yell and scream when he hooks that "GIANT" dink. It's like their own little reality show in a weird sort of way.People watch just to see what he's going to do next. And he's doing what he loves to do......I cant say that I wouldnt GO IKE if I was fishing for a living, matter of fact,it would be a distinct possibility (without the break dancing) ;D
  8. Winning a tournament means nothing huh?To me it means that there were X amount of people who gathered to see who was the best on a particular day and threw down money to find out. I'd say most guys that win a tournament whether it be a local 20 boat tournament or the Bassmasters Classic, the winner has done their fair share of homework to take the first place check. Winning a tournament is a confidence builder and also a small step towards a bigger goal, not to mention,it looks good on a resume' when the wins pile up and you go searching for sponsors to promote yourself to them to help them sell products.....if anybody on this board could understand that premise,I figured you'd be the one.I'm surprised to hear you of all people say that winning a tournament means nothing.Come on,EW.....
  9. LOL!! Thats the dude with the 7 lb 2 oz bass!
  10. .....and to top it off,Keith Olberman on the Dan Patrick radio show says "Are bass fisherman even athletes?"
  11. OUCH! That had to hurt!I bet you wish you had that money back. Bottom line....whether its big or small,a bass is a bass!
  12. I KNEW you'd be the first one to chime in about my last post! Look at it this way RW,when someone is fishing a tournament and that tournament can be won with 4 dinks and a 3 pounder,(as you say),why would you even want to fish deeper water or catch bigger bass? Those 5 dinks that win the tournament arent really big enough to break my line or make a run into deep brush.......the little fish just come flyin' into the boat with no real threat of breaking off.Catching big bass in deep water during a tournament is really a waste of time.It takes the bait longer to reach the fish, you have to spend lots of time finding "the spot" and when/if you hook one, there's no guarantee that you will get it into the boat.I'd rather catch the high percentage dink, just like Shaq would rather dunk a basketball than shoot a 15 ft jumper. As you can tell,I'm just messin' with you......
  13. I've thought about it some more and I'll say tournament angler no doubt......isnt that why they have tournaments in the first place? To find out who the best fisherman is! ;D
  14. That question can never be answered correctly.Ever.Obviously,nobody on earth has ever spoken to a bass.Until we get an interview with a bass, that will not be known.......in the meantime,I think large bass have been lucky to have either been thrown back a few times or have not been presented with something they felt like eating at feeding time.I believe that larger bass are accustomed to boats,bank-beating anglers etc.....and tend to be more comfortable in deeper water, away from the commotion. I do know that some bass are more rambunctious and aggressive than others and that most of those are of the smaller variety. They are just learning their role in the underwater world and it seems they want to eat everything in sight. A larger bass is still an opportunistic feeder but they often feed in deeper water or only move shallow for a few minutes at a time to feed, then go back deep where their comfort zone is. As studies say,big bass dont like to move very far to eat,in effect, bigger fish are lazy.I believe that 100%.And through the years, those bigger fish have located spots that have everything they need......deep water, quick shallow water access and some type of cover, and more times than not, those special places are very difficult to find. You'll definitely know it when you do get on one of those special spots. In short, the bigger fish get bigger because of their habits, not their level of smartness.
  15. I will say tournament angler. You have a limited amount of time to bring back a limit of bass and catching that limit,at times,is alot harder than it sounds. That is why you see most limits weigh under 20 pounds.(unless the tournament is in Fla or Cali) The non-tournament angler can fish where he wants(small ponds, private lakes),when he wants(before daylight, after dark) and what he wants(live bait in alot of cases). The tournament angler is definitely challenged more to catch fish.
  16. Do an IP check and see if he has any other board names......
  17. fluke, dont make him mad......I could see him loading up his inner tube on top of his Yugo, going straight to Varner and catching every bass over 10 lbs in about a half a day.You dont want that do you? He's THAT good!Just ask him! :
  18. That's John Kernan with Velvick. He used to do the local sports news here in Roanoke,Va. and you're correct,he dont know jack about bass fishin'.Good call RR.
  19. I use alot of deep cranks and one that has chartreuse on it consistently catches more fish(for me).I just think chartreuse shows up better down deep. Also,if I'm fishing heavily shaded banks with overhanging trees,or in low light, chartreuse is the color I'm throwing.
  20. Since your a big fan now,why dont you buy the boat he used on tour last year? Here's the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Classic-Angler-Mike-Iaconellis-personal-06-Bass-Boat_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ63724QQitemZ4605709904QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW Check the sellers other auctions too,you can sponsor Ike or bid on a day of fishing with him.(if your wallet is fat enough)
  21. Yes,very slow....been like that for a week or two.Thought it was my PC,and the past 2 days I havent even been able to get on this board at all. It's good to know Glenn is on the case!
  22. I liked Loudmouth Bass and think they need to bring it back.......without Kumar, his whining voice hurts my ears, plus he didnt seem to know a whole lot about bass fishing.Zona rocks though! Schooled by Brauer was okay although he did seem to get off on deducting points from the guys on his show.I'd like to see someone on his show find some offshore structure and blow his mind........Denny's an old school bank-beater.If the bass aint on the bank,he aint catchin jack. Jerry McKinnis is too sappy at times and is basically just a couple of guys out fishing, not much info in that show. I'm still on the fence about Charlie Moore.....saw one yesterday where he went with his wife as his partner to fish an 8 hr tournament against 2 guys in Alabama on their home lake.Judging by the amount of trash those 2 dudes were talkin,I didnt think 'ol Charlie would have a chance. Those guys bombed and only brought back 1 bass,Moore had 2 and won it.
  23. They read Bassmaster and they probably watched Chuck Woolery's fishing dvd a few times. ;D
