  1. Not only does he like to fish, he has nicer gear and usually catches more than I do...
  2. That made me go to the basement to look around. I have the pistol grip Lightning Rod (5' 6") with a Shimano Bantam Crestfire bc reel. I even have the original red flannel rod sock that came with it with room for the reel.
  3. Is The Natural back in business ? :
  4. Is it me or is it getting more ridiculous ? The trash I come across at my favorite spots is out of hand. The icing on the cake is that there are trash cans available at the majority of the lakes I fish. Even if they're not, it's still no excuse. I hate to be negative, but there are a lot of scumbags out there. Perhaps a $5 deposit on styrofoam bait containers and beer cans would go a long way toward helping clean up the mess. Or just shoot the ignorant b*stards and be done with it >
  5. Best line out there IMO.
  6. In no particular order.... Sorcerer Unforgiven Outlaw Josey Wales Boondock Saints Southern Comfort Caddyshack Animal House I know, that's seven....
  7. Shouldn't you be concentrating on becoming a better fisherman instead of worrying about sponsorships ? No offense, but you're one of a million. I'm off to the concession stand for some popcorn. Anybody want anything ? Junior Mints ? Milk Duds ?
  8. I thought the drying out issue was resolved with a new type of bottle - one that didn't allow evaporation. I thought this was taken care of for a while now.
  9. If the brake shoes are glazed and the inside (contact area) of the brake drums are blue (sign of excessive heat) that's from the brakes not releasing. If the brakes look good BUT the hub and bearing components are heat damaged, that could be from improperly adjusted bearings (too tight)
  10. If it has a rattle, the rattle may be stuck in the chamber because of excess glue, debris, whatever. Bang it on a hard surface to knock it loose.
  11. Kayak on the roof and gear in the back of the Explorer the night before. Coffee pot set to start brewing 15 min. before I get up. Leave house around 4 - 4:30 am, usually on the water fishing by 5:30. Two rods, a small tackle bag and a few cigars and I'm set. I'll stay out 8 - 10 hours at times. Same deal for night trips.
  12. Tuning is how you correct a crank that won't track straight. For example, if the crank tracks to your left on retrieve, slightly bending the eye in the opposite direction often fixes it. Only takes a tiny bit to make a difference. Some guys purposely set cranks to track off center to get into a difficult area.
  13. Right on. They suck eggs through a straw.
  14. Can you find out about Senkos at the North American Fishing Club ??
  15. did you ever see the one where he did something stupid and totally unnecessary to get better ratings? his show was an entertainment show, not a survival show. Did you see the one where he went to a motel when things got rough ? Oh wait, that was about every one... :
  16. In my experience...NO I don't know the scientific reasons, but I think the tadpoles secrete something that the bass don't like. Years ago we caught a bunch and tried them as live bait and got zip.
  17. On the water an hour before sundown and fish on into the night. That's been my thing for several weeks now and it's been working out good for me. Internally weighted tubes worked sloooooooow across the bottom has been my ticket. Jigs are another option also.
  18. Reaction Strike Fathead Jr. paddletail swimbaits. They even smell toxic.
  19. The Triumph by St. Croix is a quality sub $100 rod and has a five year warranty. If you're looking for bling, this is not the rod for you but still is a good rod.
  20. Try going about an hour before sundown and fish into the dark. When the heat is on full blast, this can work well. Put the stopwatch away and just twitch your plastics along slowly. At least up here, the bites are not aggresive at all this part of the season. Keep just enough tension on your line to feel the slightest tap. You may have had fish on and not noticed.
  21. 1) It may be an issue with the friction ring, which is a rubber - like ring located under the rotor. It works in conjunction with the bail trip lever and has been a known problem in the past. 2) If it's under a year old, Shimano will likely cover it under warranty. Contact Bantam 1 over at TT, he should be able to help you.
  22. Exactly. I'm intrigued by them anyhow. I'm 45, married with kids. Comfort is king now, I'm way past caring what things look like ;D One thing from the show I saw was the fact that runners from African nations dominate in many track and field events, despite the poverty levels and lack of "sophisticated" gear. In a nutshell, they ran barefoot their entire lives without anywhere near the level of injuries of runners from more industrialized nations. Sometimes less is more.
  23. A guy came into work wearing those the other day. Another person asked him about them and he went on some tirade about how regular shoes "destroy your feet" and how cave men didn't wear soles on their feet, etc, etc...He has come in a few times seems to be a pretty big granola eating nature nut. I don't know how his feet survived all these years until the individually-toed shoes were invented. Actually, granola boy is on to something. Here's an article that explains it somewhat: http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/07/barefoot/ I saw a show about this. Very interesting. Apologies for veering off of the path of this thread, which is about flip flops. I have a pair of Under Armours. Very comfortable
  24. What's the big deal ? One of these: https://www.mybedazzler.com/?mid=878186 and your favorite reel and Ta Da !!!
  25. One theory out there is that Daiwa is concentrating more on their salt water gear as that is a much larger market.
