The Oil Well Is Capped!
Tell that to the folks that earn their income from the gulf. I hope you're right, but how can pumping that much oil in such a (relatively) short period of time NOT have an impact ? It's a documented fact that there are still lingering effects from the Exxon Valdez spill back in the 80's, one being the loss of the herring fishery there.

Sweet Mother of Jesus !!!
Could the side bar ad on this site be true ? Could our traditional methods of fishing be outdated, expensive, inefficient, even deadly ???? I don't wanna end up like the guy in the ad with a meathook through my skull I guess it's time to take up golf.....

How do you store your soft baits?
It's especially important to keep the Rage Tails in their original clamshell pack to keep their shape.

Revo S vs. Revo STX!!
You can't set up a Revo like other reels. Tie on your bait, set the mag brake to zero, THEN set the cast control cap so that you have to shake your rod tip to get the bait to drop, not so the bait falls on it's own. Then set the mag brake at around 25% to start with. The cast control knob setting is crucial on a Revo.

Any strict scary dads out there?
Twice within the last six months my wife has confronted older (40ish) men she caught eyeing my oldest daughter, who is 13. One was at the supermarket, the other at a gas station. You don't want to be on the receiving end of one of her tirades. Trust me on that one. If it ever happens when she is with me, he won't be looking at anybody until the swelling around his eyes subsides. It's just part of being a parent, especially of girls. We can tolerate boys within her age group "checking her out", we know it's going to happen. You did nothing different than a lot of us did at your age, so don't feel like you're getting piled on. Your perspective will perhaps change someday if you have kids. You made a mistake. Live and learn.

Jigs with Spinning Gear
I've used Strike King's Bitsy Bug jigs on spinning gear with much success - spooled with 15 lb braid. Anything beyond the Bitsy Bug is baitcast territory.

The old popcorn trick. ;D Would that be the old "Pee Wee Herman Popcorn Bucket" trick ?

Any strict scary dads out there?
I've got two daughters, although they're not at the boy stage yet (close). The fact that you're planning to meet dad face to face and talk to him shows balls on your part. Good for you. He still might not like you when it's over, but he'll probably respect you for it. Be straight with him and look him in the eye. Best of luck to you. You're gonna need it

Discontinued Lures and lure colors
http://store.tackleandrods.com/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=FLT&Category_Code=TOLEDO Thanks for the lookout Rayraff. I found that site too and, unfortunately, they're not the baits. The ones I used to get were more realistically shaped and detailed, down to the raised scale pattern. Almost ahead of their time back in the 80's

Anyone Want to Share Their "Secret Lures"?
Brent's 4" Disc Tubes (any color really) weighted internally with a 1/8 oz drop shot weight - the skinny cylindrical ones. Rigged weedless on an EWG hook. If I could only fish one rig the rest of my life, this is it.

Recommendations needed for Ultra light reel
Sorry, $25 won't get you anything but a headache. Scrape up another $15 and get one of these in the 20 or 25 size. An amazing reel for the money. Mine's going on 4 years old and hunreds of fish and is still purring along. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0029733119155a&navCount=2&podId=0029733&parentId=cat20333&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20333&catalogCode=IA&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20333&hasJS=true

Anybody try "OFF"s new advertised clip on mosquito repellent?
Greetings from New Jersey, the mosquito and horsefly capital of the world. The cigars work good. Also using laundry detergent that is free of dyes and perfumes helps also. The dryer sheets in your pockets and up inside the brim of your hat are said to work well, I haven't tried that yet. But when it gets unbearable, nothing beats the deet. As far as getting repellent on your baits, I've read studies that ran the gamut from it will totally kill your fishing to no effect at all. Go figure. I use aerosol or pump spray repellents and generally don't get it on my hands. I personally don't believe trace amounts on a bait will make a difference at all.

Discontinued Lures and lure colors
I'd be very surprised if anyone remembered this. There used to be a company by the name of Toledo Tackle that had a bait called the Marsh Minnow. It was about a 3" long paddletail bait that I used to rig onto a round ball jighead and absolutely killed with them. Then again, maybe they were a small mom and pop company as I could only get them from a long gone independent tackle store. I never saw them in any major stores.

kayak scuppers question...
A pool noodle from the dollar store will yield a lifetime supply of scupper plugs. I have the foam golf balls in my kayak, they work very well. I pierced a hole through them and then threaded a bootlace through the hole and tied a knot at one end and a loop in the other to make removal easier.

How's this for a crappy week ?
So, after the third transmission failure in six months on my work truck (that's another story altogether), it gets even better. I get my truck back last Wednesday from having the trans replaced. I get dispatched to a job, everything is good so far. Thursday morning I get another job. I get into my truck and there is no movement whatsoever in forward or reverse. Wonderful. So I load up a couple of boxes of tools into the only truck available at the shop. I was supposed to check out a sportfishing yacht that had an overheating problem. I arrive at the marina and carry one of my toolboxes down to the boat. I set the box onto the dock and board the boat. I grab the handle of the toolbox and start to pull it towards me. As soon as I had the full weight of the box, the %@*^#@& handle breaks and there goes about $1500 worth of tools to the bottom of the marina ! I was stunned to say the least. I was able to proceed with stuff from my second box in addition to some tools that were on the boat. It turns out there is an employee in our company that dives recreationally. I made arrangements to meet him this Monday to try for a recovery. However, the owner of the boat and a buddy of his were able to snag the box at low tide using a long handled saltwater fish gaff on Thursday night. They put the box inside a large Igloo cooler and filled it with fresh water until I was able to get down there yesterday morning and get them back. Yesterday afternoon was spent drying and oiling every single tool in that box. But wait, it gets better. On Friday afternoon one of our other mechanics fell off of a boat while the boat was docking after a sea trial. He was not hurt at all, the only casualty from that was a cell phone. Sooo, how did your week go ?

Micro Guide Casting Rods
For what it's worth, my Falcon Lowrider is an excellent rod. Being that the Cara is higher in Falcon's lineup, I would imagine it's that much better. I believe the Cara has a lifetime warranty also.

Bats
Maybe it's because of the wet spring we've had out here = a lot more bugs to eat. I don't know, but man the bats are out in force this year. I've noticed a lot more bat activity this year than any other year I can think of. I fish at night quite a bit and I wish I had a dollar for every bat that dinged off my line that made me think I had a hit. Have I literally gone batty or has anyone else noticed ?

Just A Lazy Afternoon
I couldn't agree more. We had the same high winds yesterday and now our temps are in the low 60's here. I think I'm gonna hit the pond tonight with my ultra lite rig. Good idea, Crestliner

Summertime Blues
These: http://*.com/crawtube Rigged on a 3/0 EWG worm hook or on a tube jig with an exposed hook if vegetation and snags are not an issue. When rigged weightless, it somewhat floats until it takes on water and begins to sink slowly. It's heavy enough to be cast a good distance without weight. It works equally well semi - floating on top, in the shallows or worked slowly on the bottom. Far and away one of my top baits.

More Setups Vs. Better Setups
- More Setups Vs. Better Setups
Well there you go. If you're happy with it, that's all that matters. There are lots of deals to be had on quality gear these days. Buying (or not buying) gear based on the name alone is ridiculous. I think the whole "technique specific" is a bit silly myself. Even though I own a boat, I rarely carry more then 3 setups. - More Setups Vs. Better Setups
