Good day fishing.
Here in southern Oklahoma we've had some unusually cold temps that came a bit early in the season. Was great for deer hunting but slowed the late fall bassin' early. Beginning on Saturday we've had temps in the low to mid 60's for highs and high 40's to low 50's for lows. Yesterday my bud and I went to our favorite honey hole not really expecting much. He's a die-hard Baby Brush Hog thrower and I tend to throw craws, tubes, cranks, and then after he catches a few then switch to the Brush Hogs. I'm a Baby Brush Hog believer now though. We started the day really slow with the first fish coming after two solid hours without a bump. My bud jumped into the lead with four fish to my goose egg. But I switched to the Brush Hogs and being in the front of the boat ended the day with six fish to his five. A total of eleven quality fish from 1-3 lbs. in the third week of January, impressive for me. I normally don't bass fish this time of year but had a great day yesterday and will be back at it again soon.

new BPS carbonlite rods LOL
I would like to ask if there are any Vendetta owners who have also handled one of these new Carbonlite rods and could offer an objective comparison of the two?

Need help on removing/replacing a rod tip.
I knocked the insert out of the tip of one of my favorite rods today. > I was wondering if I heated it with a lighter if I could just slip it off and then, with a little super glue, slip a replacement onto it. Don't want to lose any length and more importantly, any of the unique limberness of the tip on this one.

Strike King Zero stick bait
After they start to float try using them on a shaky head.....KILLER!

most influential bait of the decade
#1...unquestionably....Senko #2....Brush Hogs #3....Swimbaits.....although the Sassy Shad has been around for a while and was my first "swim" bait. But the large hard and soft swimbaits have definitely gotten a lot of attention this past decade.

This lure has been producing big time for me.
I don't get it. Do you do this prior to rigging the bait? How does it help extend the life of the LMS?
-
Help please/keep or exchange it.
If you're a beginner bait caster, then I'd say go for the Citica. Your backlash (and frustration) factor will be way down vs. the Pflueger.

Anyone remember Bass Pro Shops Spiral Graphite rods from '90s
I've got one of these in a 6'6" medium action. I think I got it in about '93. Limber tip and just right for loading up lighter lures. Pretty sensitive too. I'd like to get a couple more sometime if they could be found. It's a clear smoke color blank with a visible black coil wrapped all the way around what looks to be the outside of the blank. Power Hump grip of course.

slug-go help
A standard offset worm hook works best for the Slug-Gos. I used to use a 4/0 for the 6" and a 2/0 for the 4" so I'd say a 1/0 would be best for the 3". Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp is a good hook for the money.

Bluegill/Sunfish Imitators

Line for Crappie Fishing?
Yo Zuri Ultra Soft in either 4# or 6# Mist Green. Tough light diameter line! I fish 1/32 to 1/8 oz. jigs with no problems. Landed this fish while crappie fishing with it last April.

Yo-Zuri Hybrid
I use 6# Ultra Soft on my spinning outfits. Works fine, but haven't landed an 8 or 9 lb'er with it yet. It 's fine for your average 3-4 lb. bass though. Don't get it wrapped or it will break. I tried 10# Ultra soft but wasn't as pleased. It seemed to not cast as well and was binding across the line guides on the rod more. I was trying it on a Shimano Sahara 2500 on a Med/Hvy Conolon rod. The 10# is great for my 100 size bait casters however.

Underrated lures
Was going through my tackle stash today and found several baggies of Mr. Means in both 3" and 4" size. Caught a lot of bass on these back in the 80's, great grub lure. Supposed to imitate a leech I think. Thanks for the reminder. May give 'em a try again on Wednesday.

Underrated lures
H&H spinners. Great spinnerbaits with a twin hook. 3" Sassy Shads rigged on an1/4 or 1/8 oz. jighead, superb. Mann's Augertail worm. Gene Larew HooDaddys, and Big Bite Baits Kreit Kreatures.

Smokin' deals at Academy.
Slipped across the state line to Sherman last night and picked up two of the rods. A Worm Rod and a Crankin Stick, great rods at a great price! Plenty of selection, too. Also handled one of the Mettle reels, nice. Gonna get one to try out before the sale ends on Sunday.

Smokin' deals at Academy.
Oh yea, Smokin'! Can't beat those Classic rods for the regular price and now.....well.....looks like a couple are gonna go for a ride in my pick-up soon. Notice the Mettle reels half price also. Wonder who makes those for Academy, looks a lot like a Pflueger.

BPS extreme reel took a dump.
I have 2 Revo S and they were made in China. 50/50 on them BTW, first one was flawless out-of-the-box. Just got the other this week and have had to open it up and clean and re-lube everything. Seems to work fine now. I think that the reels sometimes sit too long, mine are '09 models, and the grease gets old. Seemed that way on my second one anyway, no telling how long since it had been manufactured, also could have been exposed to extreme heat or cold versus the other one.......who knows.....ya really never know what you're getting until it's in your hands nowadays. I have a used Extreme reel that Muddy gave me and it has been a great reel for me. Don't even know the model or age but it works fine and with no problems.

Arkey Football Jigs
The 14.6 state record largemouth that was caught by Roger Hockersmith from Mountain Lake. The record that stood for many years was caught on an Arkie Jig.

Best Crankbait reel under $120?
I was looking at both these BPS reels this morning. I'm leaning towards the Fritz reel. Thanks for the replies.

Best Crankbait reel under $120?
I have a Citica 200 DPV but don't like the fact that it's large and heavy. What are you guys using?

Your best shaky head combo - weight and plastic.
Thanks for the info. I guess the Trick Worms are soaking in water over time? Forgot about the 3X series, definitely will be checking those out and the others also. Thanks again.

Your best shaky head combo - weight and plastic.
Bassin_Fin@tic Good response, thanks for the advice on dark water too. RW I actually have some stand up shaky heads that I used one time over a semi rocky bottom and fished just like you said. Thanks for confirmation from a seasoned angler that I was on the right track. donbeatya Thanks to you too, looks like the Picasso heads are getting plenty of free advertising here. Lucky Craft Man I'm gonna check out the Big Bite Squirrel Tails. The local Academy Sports carries their whole line of baits and they're very reasonably priced. RoLo I actually did the "kitchen sink test" on several straight and paddle tail worms to see which floated the tails and which didn't before I ever tried any on the water. The Trick Worms were the best, but I have some Mann's Jelly worms that worked well and some old Creme paddle tails that floated tail up also. I also tried a few different craws and even a Baby Brush Hog then too, only one style craw I had worked. Thanks for your advice too. Let's keep this thread going guys. I know there has to be more of you who fish the shaky than have posted.
