  1. Open it up when you first get it....... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1248200321 Set the brakes to the "Y" pattern....one on-one off, one on-one off, one on-one off. You'll never have to open it up again, just use the tension knob for less or more windy conditions. Mine doesn't have the new "pitch" system braking, BTW. If you get the '09 model or before they will be the conventional six-pin system.
  2. Caught 10 bass ranging from 1-3 lbs yesterday on my Trion GX7 4725. It's spooled with 6 lb. Yo Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft. I was using a light action fast tip rod, no problems, great drag on these reels.
  3. I just bought one of the '10 Extremes while they were on sale during the spring classic. Haven't really wrung it out yet, just a couple of outings, but at this point I like my last year's and previous year's models better. They are no CiticaE or Revo S though. Check Ebay for the previous two, better reels for the money in my opinion.
  4. My deep diving crank and H20 Xpress swimbait setup is an Abu Garcia 5600 C3 with a Bass Pro 4 1/4" Power Handle added. It's matched with a 7' Bass Pro Tourney Special Med/Hvy rod, IM7 graphite with just the right amount of give in the tip. Casts a mile after I removed the brake shoes from the spool. These reels are easy to open up and clean, real basic build, easy to modify and tune up. I have two 5600C3's and a 4600UC that I use regularly. Got a bunch of LP reels too, but the round reels certainly have their place in the arsenal.
  5. Watermelon/anything midnight/chartreuse green pumpkin bullfrog
  6. Sorry guys, no offense, but I just ain't buying it. 8-)
  7. That actually sounds like maybe there's too much line on your spool. There should be a good 1/16-1/8 inch of lip showing after you spool up. This a common problem with spinning gear. Fine line (pardon the pun ) between too much line and not enough on spinning reels.
  8. Are you lining your spinning reel up right? Are you allowing the line to fall off the spool in the same direction as it winds around the spool of your reel, i.e., clockwise or counterclockwise? You cannot spool a spinning reel by reeling line onto the reel while allowing the bulk spool to roll around a pen or pencil or similar. The bulk line spool MUST be lying flat on the floor or held facing the spinning reel which allows the line to peel off the bulk spool in the same direction as it winds onto your reel. Reel line on for 10 or so complete cranks and then move the reel toward the bulk spool allowing slack in the line. If it twists, simply flip the bulk spool over and go 10 cranks more and do the same thing. The side that produces the less amount of twist when you slack the line is the side that you want to complete the fill from. The suggestions for YoZuri Hybrid Ultra Soft 6lb. get a big "ditto" from me.
  9. Most are on Backorder at Cabelas.
  10. Get the BPS Extreme. On sale for $59.99 right now during the Spring Classic.
  11. After checking these out and watching some promo vids and actual action vids I ordered two. I got the 09 model - 3 1/2" 5/8 oz. in silver and moss back shiner. The two most prominent forage fish in the waters I frequently fish are shad and bluegill (bream), figured these two colors were about as close to those as I could get. I'm really impressed with the fact that you can "walk the dog" sub surface with these. Anyone have any experiential knowledge of these baits?
  12. Never used any but their craws look worth giving a toss.
  13. Grandson really wants the rod for play, me not so much. I may fore go the bundle just for that reason and because of the extra cost.
  14. Want to get one for me and my grandson to play. Really would like one that has a rod with it. Been looking at the Bass Pro Shops:The Strike, but he game play graphics look pretty cheap and low grade. Rapala games look about the same. Like the Sega Bass Fishing graphics best, but alas, no rod. Anyone have any suggestions or experience.
  15. I just ordered one of the HMG GS66L spinning rods and was wondering if I'll be pleased with it's performance or not. I plan to match it with a light action mid priced spinning reel using Yozuri Hybrid Ultra Soft 6# line. Gonna throw all things light or ultra-light......mini-cranks, 3" and 4" sticks, split shot, drop shot, shaky heads, 1/16-1/8 tex rigs.....hopefully you get the picture. I was wondering mainly about the sensitivity, strength, and the durability of the rod.
  16. $20 of on Pro Qualifier and Extreme reels.
  17. I also would recommend the Trion GX7 reel. However the 4740 is not a UL reel. The 4520 and 4725 is. Of these two I would go with the 4725 as it has seven bearings vs. only four on the 4720. I have had both the 30 and 35 models and caught fish from slab crappie to 10lb. striper on them. They have on of the smoothest and easiest to set drags I have ever encountered on a spinning reel. In one day I caught five striper one right after the other that went over 28" on the 35 model with no problems. These reels are reasonably priced too. As far as a rod goes, I agree with the others who have recommended a "light" action rod with an XF tip for bass fishing. Would work equally well for panfish.
  18. :o Is there any way to see this flyer on line? I've been trying to find it on their website to no avail. Are the Extreme and Pro Qualifier reels marked down also?
  19. Best Swimbait-$40 budget?? I just picked up one of the H20 Xpress Sunfish 6 packs today for $24.99 on sale at Academy. Look pretty good to me and in two different sizes.
  20. Bass Pro Shops Viper LP Baitcast. Anyone own one? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_10212613_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1

Charlie Brewer came up with this technique a long time ago. It's called "sliding".
  22. Here's a link you'll find interesting to check out while you're waiting for your chance to get on the water with the Rage Tails. http://www.ragetail.com/ragetalk/index.php?topic=1208.0
  23. Certainly looks like a topic to keep an eye on. The last link is to an article from one of our local papers. The guy had some 'hands on' experience with a couple of the rods. http://www.templeforkflyrods.com/about/news/10-temple-fork-outfitters-teams-up-with-fishing-legend-gary-loomis.html http://www.tforods.com/ http://news.heralddemocrat.com/hd/Sports/J-B--Webb----Rod-company-has-good-bloodline
  24. The smallies on Texoma love the rocks. Try what FFD said but also the rip-rap on both the railroad and Roosevelt bridges up the Washita arm. Sandy shoals are good in the early to late spring in Alberta Creek and Buncombe Creek. The Caney Creek Point is a good spot also. My best smallmouth bait has been a Sassy Shad.
