  1. I have three BPS Johnny Morris Elite rods with recoil guides that I have fished braid on exclusively for two years and I like them alot. They do not groove but are noisy. They will break however. One was broken upon being shipped to me and I have broken one while trying to get a hook out of a submerged tree. They don't break easily but they will break.
  2. lil piece o ship. That is awesome!
  3. porta jon and crack oar, those are hilarious. Keep the ideas coming. I'm not sold yet but there are some good ones.
  4. Any suggestions for a clever name for my jon boat? I mostly fish in the river here in Georgia.
  5. Thanks guys. I will check ebay, didn't think about that. I tried a Macs River Runner last year but it took away from the performance too much (1/4) so I sold it.
  6. I need your help guys. My aluminum prop that is currently on my Mercury 9.9 HP 2 stroke motor has chipped thin blades becuase my fishing partner and I are pretty rough on it. We fish a very shallow river and it frequently hits the sandy bottom which causes the blades to thin and then chip. This prop did last about 4 years. Is a stainless steel prop worth the extra money ($200 -vs- $100)? Will it last longer than an aluminum prop in the above circumstances. I also hit stumps with the blade occasionally.
  7. The rod for sure. I fish mostly texas rigged and weightless plastics so therefore "feel" is very important.
  8. I don't waste my time unless it is in the 50's. I live in Georgia though so it is above 50 ten months out of the year!
  9. I fish them around shallow cover by rigging them weightless on a 3/0 ewg hook. I throw it near cover twitch it to the side lightly two or three times and let it sink for a few seconds then repeat. Then reel it in. When you twitch the rod to the side they will slither through the water like a snake---awesome action. I also fish them weighted just like I would a regular weightless worm. They dart up and down when you twitch the rod. Like the other guys said, you really can't fish them incorrectly. If I only had one bait to fish it would be a Zoom trick worm.
  10. I use 15 lb powerpro with my crankbaits. I throw them on a medium light rod that has plenty of give. I have never had an issue loosing fish with this setup. I have had a few bent hooks however. Not sure if it was due to the braid or hooking a log. I landed a nice 6 1/4 pound bass and a 5 pounder with no issues. I know the "experts" will tell you not to fish braid and crankbaits but it works for me.
  11. I have less backlashes using 30 lb power pro and they are easier to pick out. I think it is because braid has no memory therefore it wraps around the spool nice and tight and doesn't want to get loose on the spool like mono does which can cause the backlashes.
  12. Yeah I bet they do too. Shimano Japan just recently released the Scorpion 1000xt which is built on the core 50mg frame, but aluminum instead of Mg and weighs in at 6.7oz I think and cost about $250. They would sell like hotcakes I bet, especially if they come in under $200.
  13. I have used Gluvit before and it worked great!
  14. Anybody got any thoughts on the scenario?
  15. WOW! I didn't realize you guys had fishing seasons up north either. That explains why almost half the people in Florida are from up north! Seriously though. I bet you guys are itching to go at it. I know I can't wait every year till deer season opens. Good luck.
  16. Here is a pic. of the 6 1/4 and 5 pounder from Saturday morning.
  17. I went back to the same pond this morning and only caught 5 bass with the biggest being 2 pounds. They hit weightless trickworms today. They wouldn't touch the lipless crankbait and weighted worms that were catching them Saturday. It was a beautiful morning and the water temp. of 66 to 68 degrees but they were not biting very good at all. I wish it woudl have been overcast, that would have helped some but they should have bit better than they did with the nice consistent weather we have been having. The highs were in the low 70's Monday - Wednesday, and yesterday the high was 85. The high today was 87 so I don't understand the slow bite.
  18. Yes. The front came in Friday night and was still pushing through Saturday untill about 1 PM. Wednesday was post-frontal but there was two solid days of consistent weather prior to fishing.
  19. I am heading back to the pay ponds tomorrow morning during beautiful weather so we will see what happens.
  20. My brother in law also went that same cold Saturday morning and killed the big bass also. He entered a "fish where you want to and weigh in at 3 PM" tournament and came in second with 27 pounds. Funny thing is that I would have come in third with 20 pounds out of a pay pond! Ha! The same guy I fished with Saturday went to another pond on Wednesday and said they couldn't get anything to bite either. So the bite was consistently great in other ponds on Saturday in terrible weather and consistently bad in beautiful weather on Wednesday.
  21. Last Saturday morning a friend and I went fishing in a pay pond. I fished from 8 AM to 12:30 and caught 15 bass. The big 5 being 6 1/4, 5, 3 1/2, 3 1/4, and 2 1/2 pounds. The air temp was 45 degrees and warmed to 50 with a 10 to 15 mph wind. The water temp was 62-66 degrees. It was so cold and nasty I could barely feel my hands but we caught a decent number and great quality. The weather the four days prior to saturday ranged from 71-77 as highs and 41-43 as the lows. I also went this Wednesday afternoon from 4:45 - 7:45 PM in an awesome farm pond that is known for its big fish and only caught 2 bass both about a pound. The air temp. was about 70 and the water temp was also 70 to 71 degrees. The weather for the two days prior to Wed. ranged from 71 to 73 as the high and 51 to 56 as the low. The weather was nice and consistent for 2 solid days before Wednesday and yet we couldn't buy a bite! Any idea on why the fish wouldn't bite during the nice consistent weather but bit great while a front was passing through (I thought they bit right before a front went through not during)?
  22. If you are familiar with the BPS line up I will make some comparisons for you. The Carbonlite in my opinion is their second lightest rod. Only the Johhny Morris Elite line (maybe signature line also) feel lighter to me. The ProLite Finesse rod (which the Carbonlites replaced) are just a tad heavier than them. They are definately lighter than any of their other rods. The split grip does make them feel just a tad tip heavy but I could get used to that.
  23. I was hoping that since it was a dual beam transducer that there would be a decent sized area of coverage even in 10 ft water or less. I guess not!
