  1. Think what might have changed in a week. Always check the obvious first. Plugs, connections, fresh fuel, clogged filter, etc. etc. 2 cycles ate not that complicated, especially the smaller ones. You have the advantage of taking it in your garage and have access to everything. Get a manual and start troubleshooting. Please clarify what you said about the choke. "When we put it in it shoots back in" ? If you like the motor, try fixing the choke, re-building the carb, or buying a new or re-built one.
  2. That I would be married soon and almost forced to make a choice. Still married and still have a boat.

I really don't think the O.P. cares if it is a glide bait or a buzzbait. He didn't ask what category of bait it fell in. He asked peoples opinions of it. That's all I'm saying. First 5 or so posts wer on topic then it went off in another direction. He was asking opinions on how it worked, regardless of what category you choose to put it in. That's all. You either like it or you don't and why, should be all that is posted. A spook you have to work with the rod. Most Musky jerk/glidebaits you have to work with the rod. Check out Rollie and Helen's or Thorne Brothers. (yeah, I fish for muskies too) I'm sure there are some swim/glide baits that do the same thing as a spook, which the Giron is one, but the spook has no action when reeled in directly so that should not even be a comparison.Nor should Musky glide baits. Shouldn't get this complicated. Don't overthink stuff. Glidebaits vs. Swimbaits could be a topic for another day.
  4. Try Lucas Safeguard ethanol fuel conditioner. I use it regularly during the year and put in a little extra before storing. I like to keep at least a quarter tank full at all times. Even winter. Going on 13 years old an fires right up every spring. Of course it's a Yamaha though.
  5. If you want a new one, go to mercury site under props and plug in year and H.P. And boat length. This should give you the pitch, dia, and spline. Use this to search out aftermarket brands or ebay? Some models are interchangeable. I bought a stainless Suzuki for $75.00 new for my Yamaha. Slightly different pitch and dia. Gets me out of the hole much faster but have to watch the RPM's at WOT. Good for taking the kids skiing and tubing. Maybe get ahold of tracker and they can let you know what size prop the motor came with. Best to stay as close to that as possible. Good luck.
  6. With the design of this, I can see plenty of backlashes with the way the spike sticks up until deployed for the poor guy in the back. Otherwise looks fine.
  7. X2. I would go with Colorado blade(s) though. Try a rattlebait too.
  8. Like others have said, use the Strike King Zero's or Z- Man Zinkers. Same thing. 2 for one. BB is right on with the jigheads. Lighter line, loosen drag or backreel, and lighter action rod. Any hookpoint can dull if you hit a rock or dock post.

I'm with Tom on the pork. Seems to have fallen out of fsvor but just as deadly as ever. I like the Rage Craws and Lobsters in plastics.
  10. Dam. No Academy store anywher near me. Sexy Swimmer is one of two baits I have caught teo fish on. No, the A-Rig is not the other. Love the King Shad jr. Also. Those prices are steals.

I'm not trying to start anything but a couple days ago it isn't a glide bait and now it is? I agree it does have a much tighter wiggle than glide baits as you stated and how you classify a bait is your decision. Maybe it should be classified as a hybrid? I don't know. You could probably call it either one. Like a Corvette is a car but not a Ford but they are both cars. Just know I like the GIRON and if you read the reviews on T.W. there is not one bad one. Others must like it too. Might not fit the bill as a "glide bait" though. But the O.P was asking for opinions on the GIRON and this kind of went off on a tangent. Curious how this compares to a sinking spook. You can walk the dog with it (which is part of it's versatility). Can't swim a Spook. Hope the O.P got the answers he was looking for. P.S. If you have any you do not want (that are not sanded down) send me a P.M. and maybe we can work out a deal.

Not sure how this became a discussion on glide baits but back to the Giron. Check the reviews and videos. Swims at slow to fast retrieve and when stopped, turns 180 degrees. Can also be waked and jerked. Deadly around the spawn.

Great bait IMO. Great action on a slow, steady retrieve. Fish the Bluegill color around beds and hang on. 2 unique features. Stands straight up vertically on the bottom and stop it and it urns around 180 degrees like it's looking back to see what is following it. Not sure what people mean by "helicoptering" but have never experienced it. Couple good you tube videos on it. Learn to use them the way they were deigned to be used.

Those are pretty slick BB. Nice to not be st the mercy of someone elses sizez and colors. Kent, do you have alot of experience using the Rage Blade? T.W. Has mixed reviews, although mostly good. Seems there is (was) trouble with the snap and it tend tom come to the surface. Can't tell if it has a good trailer keeper. Good color selction also. For me, all I need are Bluegill, Black/ Blue, and Sexy Shad or Z-Man Blueback Herring. Anyone else like the Rage Blade? Price is right.
  15. Never really liked the original Chatterbaits. I have used Strike King's Pure Poison for a few years and really like it. Until I bought and tried a few Z-Man Project Z Chatterbaits. These things are fantastic. From the new line tie to the skirts and colors, I think this is far and away the best bait in this category. Love the Breaking Bream color. But they also have the best colors available IMO. Paired with a Lunker City Swimming Ribster, these rock. What are all of your favorites? I'll be picking up more of these at T.W. with the 15% off sale.
  16. Rhino has it right. I've read that using the disk determines light penetration. If the disk disappears at 3 feet, light penetration is 6 feet. What I've read is that is the depth you should start fishing. But just because I read it doesn't mean I do it.
  17. The only Trokar hook I use is the weedless wacky, because I think it has the best weedguard. For everything else its Gammy and lately VMC. Trokars are too expensive. Actually got some free from their website and didn't notice a difference. They are sharp but so are other premium hooks. I'm really starting to like the VMC with the epoxy sealed eye. No chance for your line to slide down into the gap and get nicked. Priced right too.
  18. Vertical swimming. Fish it around bluegill beds with the wind blowing in on them and hang on. My favorite color is Blue Craw with the tail dipped in chartreuse JJ's Magic. Bluegill are the main forage in the lakes I fish.
  19. Damiki D-Hold 5/0 1/8 oz. Perfect fit. Caught more than I can count on this rig. D-Hold works better than any screw in type I've tried. Stays in place and doesn't destroy the front of the bait. I use this for all the baits I can't get away with a Superline 5/0 Gammy on, which is not a good hook for the Shellcracker.
  20. Ask yourself this: Would you rather have been at work? No, there are no bad days fishing. I think of it as good days and great days. If I get out and intermingle with nature, even get attacked by a swan (which I have after I got too close to her nest) and don't catch anything it's a good day to me. Count your blessings every time you get a chance to do something you love doing.
  21. Only way I could get more time on the water would be getting divorced, and believe me the subject has been brought up.
  22. If you use senko type baits, try the Flat Dawg. Best action on the fall you will see. Two problems though. Very light and a one fish bait. But the Havoc line are all $2.99 so just buy a bunch. The Craw Fatty and Hawk Hawg are pretty good baits. Haven't used Chigger Craws in a while but they will get you bit too.
  23. If the bait comes scented, great. Haven't used powerbaits in a while, but they do work. Really like the coffee scent of Strike King baits. If the baits do not have scent, I mostly smear some Megastrike on them. Also use JJ's alot. Something about a little chartreuse on the tail of a swimbait or the claws of a Rage Craw make them magic. Once watched a little guy take my Shimee Stick, which had Megastrike on it, and actually followed him for at least a minute and actually lifted him out of the water without setting the hook. Then he let go. The stuff does work. I don't think scent triggers bites, but could be wrong. I do think bass will hold them longer with scent. Most baits that are scented lose their scent pretty quick with the exception of maybe Powerbait or Gulp but I think their plastic is too stiff. JJ's lasts for a few days and you can smell it across the lake and Megastrike lasts pretty long. Haven't tried too many others. Haven't needed to.
  24. X2 on the Gambler. If you're putting it on a Swarming Hornet, the slit shouldn't be necessary. If you feel you need a slit, use a knife. Grass Pigs are O.K. but don't work so good when you slow them down. Gamblers also have better color selection and will not break your bank.
  25. If you like to snell your flipping hooks ( as I do ) try the VMC with the epoxy sealed eye ring. No chance of the hook eye opening damaging your line. For everything else, I use EWG.
