Cranking/jerkbait Reel
You beat me to the punch - well said. A-Jay

Cranking/jerkbait Reel
OK let's look at what you're looking for by starting with the baits you intend to fish. Shallow and mid depth crank baits generally are not fished with a 5: something reel nor do they require one. When throwing Deep Cranks some anglers like a reel with a lower IPT ie, slower gear ratio. Pointers or jerkbaits when fished in the traditional " Jerk / pause" fashion can definitely benefit from a higher IPT ie faster gear ratio reel. So you could consider splitting it all down the middle and get a reel in the 6 something ratio range and make the best of it. Good Luck A-Jay

New Bps Catalog
I use the BPS catalog (pages) and associated flyers (as well as the others I get) for stuff packing in flat rate mail boxes I ship. The days of using them for their intended purpose are Long Gone as far as I'm concerned. And that's a good thing. A-Jay

Using A Skinny Dipper Like A Senko?
The Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper is a fairly versatile bait that can be effective in and around all types of structure. When you're faced with vegetation you can rig the Skinny Dipper weedless and swim it over grass beds or rig it on a weighted swim bait hook and run it through sumbmerged weeds. The slender design of the Skinny Dipper coupled with the paddle tail creates a vibration in the water. The Skinny Dipper can also be deadly fished on a Carolina rig over humps and creek channels with grass and brush. A-Jay

Today Is The Day
Today Is the Day. Starting in 2015, my wife & I have decided that we're going to start celebrating the start of each season instead of the start of the new year. Simply because there will be more of them left, we're hoping anyway. So Happy Winter 2015 A-Jay

The Official "I Don't Have A Scale" Calculator
The intent and tone of my OP was for entertainment purposes only. Whether an angler weighs a fish or not is a person preference just like anything else. Some care, some do not and that's fine by me. When a guesser presents a fish to a scale user, there's the possibility a debate could ensue. Been going on for a long time and will no doubt continue to do so. To be clear, I was not casting doubt on anyone's catch, I was having a little fun. Lighten up Francis. A-Jay

The Official "I Don't Have A Scale" Calculator
After compiling & tabulating years & years of fish weighing data, the following “How Much Does This Weigh?” Scale has finally been completed. This most accurate unit of measure is particularly effective for those who have never owned a scale, refuse to purchase one and or have never weighed more than 3 fish in their entire life. And best of all it is being offered right here & now for the first time, totally Free of charge. See Below ~ If you (as the angler who landed said bass) believe the fish in question to be . . . . Between 3-5 pounds – the actual weight is at least 1 pound less than you think it is. Between 5-7 pounds – the actual weight is at least 2 pounds less than you think it is. Between 8-10 pounds – the actual weight is at least 3 pounds less than you think it is. Over 10 pounds – at this point our scale varies so widely that we cannot publish the results at this time. For those anglers who may have a question regarding the accuracy of these findings – get a scale. And see for yourself. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. A-Jay

Are Musky Rods Good Swimbait Rods?
You could check out the Lamiglas X-11 Casting Rods. I do not own one but TW says this - Actually part of Lamiglas’ salmon and steelhead rod lineup, the Lamiglas X-11 Casting Rod offers all of the attributes you need for fishing big, heavy swimbaits. Designed for back bouncing for salmon in deep fast moving water, its strengths translate perfectly to swimbait fishing. It has the power to move a big bait at the end of a long cast and make a solid hooksets, and its advanced IM graphite blank delivers excellent sensitivity and feel as you slow roll you swimbait along the bottom or retrieve it through the water column. By no means a broom stick, the X-11 loads up well during the retrieve, on hook sets, and as you launch extra long casts to specific targets. Deep press chrome guides constructed from stainless steel also provide the durability to stand up to heavy weight bass and rigorous fishing conditions, while an exposed reel seat furnishes additional sensitivity. Perfect for fishing a range of swimbaits - anything from 1 to 8-ounces - the Lamiglas X-11 Casting Rod is a sophisticated tool, exhibiting astonishing sensitivity and control, with highly focused affordability. The reviews are mixed. A-Jay

Bait Monkey Is Strengthening His Grip...
I made a rather sizable TW Black Friday haul - even by my standards. But in an effort to ward off that nasty little primate, I deliberately did not unpack or open any of this load. My plan is to slowly open a few things a month to hopefully make this New stuff last the entire winter. We'll see how it goes, so far so good. A-Jay
