This one is wide open to debate. When it's all said it done, probably comes down to personal preference. Proponents of both are able to site pros & con for and against each. For me the pro's for a revolver center around reliability but even that is subject to discussion. Finally. if the need arises, a wheel gun can be fired repeatedly from a coat pocket, though kind a tough on the coat. A-Jay
  4. A DQ is a DQ doesn't really matter what the violation is. But I'd like to know how what bait they were fishing came to light. Did they simply announce it or did a fellow competitor see them fishing it and inform tournament officials ? A-Jay

  9. The vast majority of my home waters are loaded with pike. Pike that strike soft baits like the ones mentioned, when not using some kind of wire, will bite me off more than half the time. Toothy Critter as J mentioned works very well and does not reduce strikes. American Fishing Wire makes Surfstrand Micro Supreme Wire which is also a very good & tie able product but it's a little $$$. I use them both whenever I don't feel like losing baits because if I don't, I will. A-Jay

  11. The only experience I have with casting reels in that price range came over this summer / fall when I had a chance to fish the Pinnacle Producer LTE reel. I am impressed with what the folks at Pinnacle are able pack into this reel at that price point. A-Jay http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/pinnacle-dhc7-producer-lte.html

  14. Just like much of bass fishing each of our approaches is often a little different. For this trip (as well as the last one) I used 20 lb mono exclusively while 00 mod was making it happen with 17 lb fluorocarbon. As for baits, we worked our way through a few different presentations. It became readily apparent that the fish really wanted a smaller profile bait. There was a very healthy tilapia spawn just recently and the fry were every where, also several fish coughed up 3 inch shad at the boat. So a Zoom Super Fluke (in white) proved to be an effective imitation. Once mounted on a 3/8 ounce Scrounger head the baits action was just right. I played around with a magnum fluke which is usually a big bass bait there, but couldn't get bit. And while Jeff was hammering them on the Scrounger / Fluke rig, I also tried a spinnerbait, Deep Crank, Square bill, Some top water, A jig and Senko rig, some wacky rigged stick baits, and a Texas rigged lizard. Most everything got a bass or two, and a jig did account for a few of the better bass, but none of my "experiments" came close to drawing the same kind of attention that the bait Jeff was throwing did. So, I after one morning of changing baits every 30 minutes or so, I fished the remaining 3 days of the trip with basically one bait, The Scrounger. The bass's cooperation made it easy. A-Jay

  16. Last week 00mod & I pulled the trigger on a spur of the moment 4 ½ day trip to our favorite Big Bass Lake on the planet, and once again Lake Baccarac Lodge in Mexico did not disappoint. Our guide Manual (Mexico’s Best), had us on good bass at our very first spot and the action was hot & heavy for our entire trip. Jigs, scroungers and flukes were our go to baits and the super charged Lake Baccarac Bass were in an feeding mood. Now I’ve heard stories about how there are times on this lake when it’s a bass on every cast but until this trip I’d not experienced it. However during several extended periods of both our morning & afternoon sessions, it was literally a bass on every cast with well over 400 hundred 2-4 lb bass coming to the boat in 4 ½ days of fishing. It was a little nuts, but in a good way. The last two days of this epic trip, the really big bass that this lake is known for began to feed. Jeff & I both landed several bass between 5 and 7 pounds along with 8, 9 and 10 pound trophies. A few of my favorite pictures appear below and I’m sure 00 mod will have something to add as well. I’ve said this before but I’m going to say it again, if you have the opportunity, this place is really special. I highly recommend it. A-Jay
