The waters here all have a very healthy population of pike. I do catch them while "bass" fishing, more than I'd like. However, early and late in the season is a time when the bigger pike make themselves available in the mid to shallow depths. Early in the season, it's tough to beat the slow lazy wobble of a spoon. It's like magic on pike. These two articles discuss some bait options and pike fishing techniques. Before I purchased my canoe I looked at as many options as possible. I sat in and paddled several different vessels including both types of kayaks. For me it boiled down to space and comfort. I do have some lower back concerns and though I am not a huge human ( 5-9 180lb) being stuffed in that seat for hours wasn't going to work for me. The canoe I chose allows me to fish standing, bring a second angler and carry too much tackle ( a serious personality flaw of mine). I use a small trailer so transporting the boat could not be any easier. And to help me get into remote waters, I use a small two wheel collapsible cart that straps on one end. I can haul that thing anywhere and do. I'm only limited by my own ambition. It's a matter of preference and need as well as the areas / type of water one fishes. A-Jay

For me - It's Yes & No. 50 here today and there have been geese flying south for a week or so; always a good sign. Several pairs of robins have been sighted as well. Unfortunately, they are finding the worm picking a bit tough because of the foot of snow with still remains. Along with the lake ice, it's all melting away slowing. Air temps are forecasted to be above freezing over night which is the biggest sign that we are heading in the right direction . . . . . .finally. A-Jay

Interesting sentiment. There's a certain "sponsored" angler from Michigan who has been using Quantum Tackle for quite a while. He seems to do OK with that laughable gear. Additionally, he can't seem to find the time to hang out at the local shop, too busy winning Classics. Those guys must know something he doesn't . . . . . . . . A-Jay
