  1. This vendor has a nice selection and it looks reasonably $$$ A-Jay http://stores.ebay.com/SIMMONS-SPORTING-GOODS_GAMMA-LINE_W0QQ_fsubZ6928322QQ_sidZ223902033QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322
  2. I am a big fan of this bait. Very excited to try the new smaller 3/8 size. btw - a little sale action going on here. 3. Very insightful. I have both reels and the pt reels perform a bit better. Whatever you do do not get a Revo or Curado/Citica. All of the ones I've had suck balls, but that's just my opinion... I had to do it . . . . A-Jay
  4. I think I was watching that same reel last night on e-bay ~ I decided to wait until later today to pull the trigger, I just came in just a few minutes ago to pick it up and it was sold - It looked like it was a sweet deal and the only one they had. Sounds like there was a bit of misrepresentation going on. A-Jay
  5. I've been fishing them for the last 2 seasons. As previously mentioned they must be fished very slow, just a notch up from dead sticking and are good for beds but hard to see well once casted as the colors are muted. Durability has not been an issue. It's a fairly small bait, all the lmb and smb I've taken on them have swallowed the entire bait so the bait usually returns intact. The colors are very realistic. This bait requires a fairly light line presentation. With such a small hook, there is no real hook set. It's more like a drop shot. Just put a bend in the rod and start reeling. I prefer to throw them on medium spinning gear over a fairly weed free bottom. The bait seems to get lost in weeds but excels in clears water with rocks/logs. Since you really have to crawl the bait (with some pauses) I usually break it out after I have covered an area with another bait and feel that there may be a fish or two still willing to have an easy crayfish snack. 6. Catt wrote ~ "Learning what structure is, how to truly identify it, interpret it, and then fish it effectively" K_Mac wrote ~ "I would concentrate on seasonal techniques." Paul Roberts wrote ~ "fish the water you have, not the articles or catalogs you own." And that's what make this site so valuable and unlike any other. Many years of on the water experience pasted on willingly as time tested advice. A-Jay
  7. x2 ~ I've been using the uni-uni knot successfully since Power pro first hit the scene in the late 90's. Tried many other knots over the years but kept coming back to the uni. Knots are a big confidence thing, you need to go with what you are most comfortable with, both in tying the knot correctly and that the knot will hold. There is nothing more final than broken line - after the cursing that is. A-Jay

  12. I am also a fan. A-Jay
  13. All I fish is clear water. Green pumpkin, watermelon and most any shade or combination of the two is effective. However, this "shadow" colored bait has been giving them both a real good run for their money, two years running. It's a little hard to find, so when I do, I buy in Bulk. (thanks Brent !) A-Jay
  14. x2 ~ ;D ;D btw - I am really excited about feeding your hair jigs to a few smb. A-Jay
  15. It sure is bad ~ who would do something like that ? A-Jay [
  16. Oh Yes - My wife just has to fish and I mean has to, a 1/4 Green Pumpkin swim jig that MUST have Red Eyes. Now here's the kicker, after having a toothy critter bite one eye off the bait and that bait catching several fish, she insists that I rip off one eye (doesn't matter which one) prior to using a new swim jig because a one eyed jig is better ! 17. Is there one or two things that Mr Brauer ALWAYS did during a tournament when he first started out that he NEVER does now ? And if so, what are they and what prompted him to change his ways ? And I just thought of another one . . . . Does Mr Brauer believe that in the near or even distant future, both men and women will be competing in the same Pro Bass Tournaments ? Thanks A-Jay
  18. Has reaching 40 years of age changed your abilities or approach to tournament fishing as compared to say 15 or 20 years ago? and if so - how ? A-Jay
  19. Keep your eye out for this dude, He'll help you guys dig out after it's all over . . . or you could just wait for it to melt. A-Jay
  20. I am planning on fishing a spinnerbait DEEPER this year. Up to now, I rarely throw a blade bait in anything more than 4-5 feet. This season I'm going to try slow rolling a heavy spinnerbait in some of the same places I would normally throw a deep running crankbait and perhaps even deeper. I've been reading up on it this off season (which is waaay tooo long) and I think it might be a technique that the fish up here don't see much. Also, if I can muster up the commitment, I going to make a few trips with nothing but Buzzbaits in the boat. We'll see. . . . . . . A-Jay
  21. DW, You and I sir, have a very different "should I weight it" standard ~ I do however, like your standard much better than mine. The few times I thought a smb was 6+, I woke up in a cold sweat ! A-Jay
  22. Right - Flipping was the first thing that started me thinking about this. I think I'll pick up a few spools and give this a shot. Thanks A-Jay
  23. As some spinning reels come with an extra spool to accommodate changing line test or type, I'm wondering does anyone do the same thing with casting reels? I'm considering picking up a few extra spools for certain casting reels so I could use the same set-ups for different applications; when wanting to switch from say mono or fluorocarbon to braid etc. Now a days the side plates just slide open and the spools pop right out. I think it would help diversify my modest rod/reel arsenal without adding more rigs (which I don't have the the room for in the Old Town). A-Jay
