Maybe - but that's not what you'll see. #baitandswitch 🙂 A-Jay

KARASHI 80 ; ANYBODY GET ONE?
You're Welcome and I'm glad it worked out. Been doing business with Hammonds for a while, and they have never done me wrong. I expect to do my own show & tell with one of these baits. But I'm going to wait until it's hanging out of the face of a bulbous brown bass. A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
Workout Day 4 ~ Completed 3 working sets of the 5 movements scheduled. There was plenty of intensity during this one. Always forces me to train with purpose. The goal is to dominate the process both in & especially outside of the home gym. I'll be taking two days off. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~ 2025-2026 Edition
The longer this hard water season lasts, the more I feel like I have in common with Uncle Fester. A-Jay

Leader length?
I fish clear & often shallow water; distance casting is required. Never had the connection knot hang up on the cast with long leaders lengths. I use a uni-uni knot exclusively. Don't believe the type knot has anything to do with it, at least for me. A-Jay

Say "Good Night" Dick . . . . . .
The first day of spring in northern Michigan is rarely a guarantee of warmer weather, often serving up a "seasonal plot twist" where bright sunshine and 50-degree temperatures can be replaced by a foot of snow and icy conditions overnight. As year-round residents know, it is better to not put away winter coats, as the lake-driven weather can shift rapidly, bringing freezing rain, high winds, and hazardous travel just when it seems like winter is over. It is a chaotic transition season where the region frequently battles between lingering winter air and sudden, short-lived spring warmth. It will be spring someday here—just not today. A-Jay

A Four-pound Indicator
Wow ~ Either way, my future videos will most definitely not be recommended for children. 🤪 A-Jay

Leader length?
All my spinning gear is braid to FC or Mono leader and has been for many years. During that time my leader length preference has evolved. I started with 10-12 ft and that was OK, mostly. Casting, hooksets, fighting & landing fish. Baits are working 'properly. Then I started using 15-18 feet and that was a bit better in all respects. The one factor that I was missing is that I did not care for the connection knot to be running in & out of the guide train once a bigger bass got close to the boat and was making her patterned dashes for freedom. Finally, I figured out how to overcome that. Leaders of 25 - 30 ft. In all other respects my fishing remained unchanged. Except now, that connection knot gets onto the reel (and more importantly, stays on the reel) long before a potential trophy gets anywhere near the boat. Done Deal. Good Luck A-Jay

A Four-pound Indicator
Seems many us recreational and even professional bass fisherman either don't know this, disagree or just don't care. Personally I am thinking about going to using the scale hook in the anus method. Might look a little weird but I think it could work. #buttweight A-Jay

Centuries or Eons worth of fishing here? Let's Find Out!
Can't be totally sure, but Mom did spend a lot of time in Sears and Roebucks in the 60's and early 70's so anything is possible. A-Jay

Megabass Vision 110 - Snap or No Snap?
While the size I use may vary as the bait, hooks, and line type / size change. These go on the nose of every hard bait I throw except a Popper. YMMV A-Jay

Working to Stay Lean ~
After a couple of off days, I was back in the home gym for Workout Day 3. Performed 3 working sets of each of the 5 scheduled movements. I'm feeling good, and I hope it continues. #borninfiftynine A-Jay

bought a few fishing licenses.
$11 for the State of Michigan All Species Senior Citizen rate. But since there's only open water for 6 months, shouldn't it be $5.50 ? 🙃 A-Jay

What baits have quit producing for you?
Past few seasons, the Strike King KVD 1.5 HC Squarebill has been replaced by the Strike King Hybrid Hunter Jr. No clue as to why. A-Jay

What is your price point of Diminishing Returns on rods and reels?
Yup—just needed to trade a few Benjamin Franklins for the setup. Totally fair. A-Jay

How Much Wind Is Too Much?
Knowledge & experience breeds confidence. Confidence to select a craft that can safely be operated in the conditions that one is routinely likely to want to fish in. Confidence to know when the conditions exceed the limitations of the operator & or the vessel. And then the confidence to manage challenging situations safely while having some of the best fishing you might ever encounter. Fishing in some wind can be good, bad, and even very ugly. I live & fish on water that has plenty of wind. Admittedly, it is far more comfortable to fish in calm conditions. My personal hope in the wind is that I need to be able to be safe and also be able to present my baits effectively. So when the wind and waves get up, I just bite the bullet, put my head down, and cast. Because that's when the real magic can happen. https://youtu.be/W2jqCf7BVAE Stay Safe A-Jay

A-Jay's Annual Ice Out / Open Water Countdown Thread ~ 2025-2026 Edition
31 Days and a wake up and I was sort of hoping I'd be a little closer to what is happening in that first Pic. Sadly, this is what I was doing today. The prospect of open water locally in April is looking like a pipe dream at this point. A-Jay
