Megabass Vision 110 - Snap or No Snap?

Featured Replies

I picked up some VMC Duolock (Size 2) for my crankbaits and was wondering if I should be using these on my Vision 110/110 Jr's as well? I know the Vision 110s are very carefully balanced, so I'm wondering if adding the snap would ruin the balance of the bait. What do you guys think? Also...it looks like most guys keep the split ring on and just attach the snap to that?

Thanks

I wouldn't mess with a clip on one.  Fish it like it was designed to be fiahed.

Yes, remove the ring first.

I haven't noticed a different while using a snap.  I remove the split ring as well.  Makes it a lot easier to swap out colors.

Clip-on ties went out years ago - so should swivel snaps for jerkbaits - -

I use steel leaders to protect from pike so yes. Bass don’t seem to mind it either.

Split ring vs snap? Can’t think there is too much difference in action anyway.

Now a non slip loop knot would be probably a different story.

Nope, tie directly to the ring, and when it comes to jerkbaits in Vision 110 prices, re-tie after every fish or two

I don't own a vision 110 but I do have 4 or 5 Stunna's and I use a snap. I have been catching LM, SM and pike all year on them.  I'd like to post a number but I lost count. The snap gives a little extra freedom of movement for the lure.

If it has a split ring by default, then removing it and using a small snap [NOT snap swivel] doesn't cause any functional difference.

Snap.  Even with a split ring on it

No snap ever on a 110 or any jerkbaits for that matter.  They are tuned to be a specific way without any added hardware.  Some Megabass jerkbaits even come without the split ring so it can have the specific designed action for that bait.

I can assure you that the steel leader is affecting the balance of that jerk bait.  Whether its affecting the number of bites you're getting is another topic but the weight of a simple line of steel at the front is altering the action.

I can't say that I blame you for using a steel leader with a $25 jerk bait on and pike around.  I have that problem too.  My solution is not to even use those megabass jerk baits in pike-infested waters.  Lol

In clear water I can clearly see the steel leader pulling the bait down so not suspending anymore, but I’m not sure if it affects the side to side action as much as even I would like to credit it.

I use a snap on almost all my jerkbaits with the split rings removed from the front. Only exception is very small jerks.

I caught my PB over 8lbs on a Vision using a Mustad Fastach snap. I've caught many fish in this fashion with no issues. I also attach straight to the bait and not the o ring.

Apologies, the bait was a Jackall Rerange. You can see it in the pic at the side of the boat.

Thanks guys. For now I just have it tied on straight to the stock split ring. I guess if I feel the need to switch jerkbaits a lot, I will maybe try the snap again.

While the size I use may vary as the bait, hooks, and line type / size change.

These go on the nose of every hard bait I throw except a Popper.

YMMV
