I do admit I sweet talk the ladies to land them. Sometimes it works to calm them down. But I haven't seen a mermaid yet to kiss. Lol

I throw different baits. If I get no action I toss the baits again with different presentations. I use everything from cranks, spinnerbaits, inline spinners, spinflys, plastics. Change size and colors, change scents. Usually one will catch bass. My ritual of baits does catch bass more often. dont make too many casts next to each other skip fan cast. I like to make soft suttle casts when my bait hits the water, with some baits remember the number one bass bait set up is the split shot rigged black worm.

Once I seen a real snake swimming across a small pond and a dozen strikes happened as it swam. It was fun to watch. The lucky snake did make it across.

Looks like the bass fisherman in the northeast had some nice warm weather to keep fishing. I hope it continues. But watch out for the weather to shift and a cold front to hit all of a sudden it's going to turn cold. That's my gut feeling. Can't trust this weather.

Mr Twister Top Props comes with the MT split double 4" trailer. Steady retrieve or a 1-2-3 rip n pause. Or stop and let it fall almost vertical. It's a weedless bait too. Either way the topwater action is at its best.

My mom n pop local tackle shop has a section with new older baits on clearance. I try to buy anything that looks interesting, like the orange spook. The only problem is once I find it works I can't replace it. i have some old floating plastics that have trapped air bubbles so they float. i owe you guys lots of pics.

I carry lots of baits with me. I have two 9606 split roof boxes one for topwater baits, one for crankbaits. My third box is for weedless smaller split roof box, my next tackle box is for plastics. I was carrying seven tackle boxes, then down to five, now down to four. It's hard to leave anything home. Now I purchased Plano 3400 plastic boxes to line them up in the bottom of the 9606 split roof boxes. Maybe I expanded too much. on the motorcycle I carried those velcro bait raps and a telescopic rod with a zebco reel under the seat.

I have the orginal "snake bait" but never tried it. There old but still look good. I have fished the 10" & 12" culprit worms weightless topwater. I have other floating worms too. I guess I need to get into more plastics?

I'm a color freak as all you know. I like to try different baits and colors. I find the natural colors do work like redear, bluegill, perch, baby bass, bass, silver Shad, gold minnow, etc. but I find the colors, chartreuse, hot chartreuse, violet, blueglimmer , blue, white, work but the dark greencraw, redcraw, brown craw, firecraw, firetiger work too. When I see a new to me bait work I purchase every color just to test them out. We just don't know what color will work at certain times and water conditions. We have our confidence colors but other colors may work too. It's no different in plastics too. Some of these new colors are interesting. There putting different shiney shades together in a pattern but it's not a even pattern. How many different colors of the same bait do you carry?

Ok one place I fish is 9' deep where I'm fishing. Beyond where I fish I'm not sure but my cast out pod from my portable hummingbird fishfinder says it's 9' deep across the channel. the second area I fish is 5' deep but has a 9' hole where it's going shallow into the flats on the right, while the left side seems to stay at 5' deep yet it's going deeper in the direction away from me. the third area I'm not sure yet it's the third man made dam and drop off. my point is it's harder to fish if we don't know the depth and bottom structure. The cast out hummingbird portable opens up a whole new window in fishing from shore.

I very seldom lose baits in trees or snagged on a yearly basis. I go for years losing nothing sometimes. But my PB record is five brand new baits lost on one trip. Haven't repeated that in years I was in a rush to fish. Even cast was like a quarterback having a bad day lol. i use the 0.99 cent stuff in rivers and streams.

As the vegetation dies the PH changes. The fish can be tight lipped, it's not us. Move around the place looking for baitfish. Go back to basics a split shot rigged black rubber worm fish it slow. Run a floating crankbait parallel to shore. Getting froggy with it? the north end of the body of water stays warmer because it gets more sunlite longer like in the springtime try fishing there. the more we learn to adapt to the changing conditions the less we get skunked. Also use the down time to practice your presentations.

In the fall when the weather is colder, I like the yum money minnow with a dying minnow presentation by twitching slowly with a jerk sometimes in the beginning. Otherwise it's my normal ritual of baits. Rapala orginal floaters, bomber model A, model FAT A crankbaits, manns classic spinnerbaits, (was once the Hank Parker classic spinnerbait), topwater pop r, ext. don't be afraid to try different sizes and colors. Let the water condition gods guide you for color selection. presentations can be the key to success, try different presentations. Like a rapala orginal floater f7 with a slow reel. Then try a little twitch n pause, then a longer pause. Make each twitch n pause picture perfect. Wear polarized glasses and look for short strikes behind your baits that run near the surface. If there is short strikes, slow up your retrieve or change colors. If you don't wear polarized glasses you could be missing lots of fish. wether a bait is a bottom runner or not depends on how fast you reel it or how high you hold your rod tip up. If you hold your rod tip down near the ground it may give you more depth but my snag on the bottom too. dont leave out the plastics, c-rigs, split shot rigs, wacky rig, and a worm rattle insert too. We can fish fish depending on where we live till the ice happens, I caught my biggest bass ever in the light snow just before thanksgiving and lost it. I been bummed ever since. its skill not luck that catches fish. i mainly fish from shore so it's no different than fishing from a boat only backwards. Lol

Rule of thumb,,,, Simple for clear water conditions it's natural colors, smaller sized baits, fished faster. For Stained water conditions depending on how bad it's stained it's a mix of natural colors and brighter colors for slightly stained and brighter colors medium sized baits fished slower. For muddy water conditions it's the brighter colored, largest sized baits fished the slowest. With all said when in doubt on a slow day throw chartreuse. why not rattles it can be a plus like ringing a dinner bell for the bass? Using all the basses senses like sight, vibration, sound plus a scent you have it all covered.

I use the manns classic spinnerbaits with the double Indiana gold blades in white or chartreuse. The white comes with a blue glimmer skirt which is the hot color for white here. The chartruece skirt I change to a hot chartreuse shirt. On both I use the mister twister 4" split double tail grub as trailers. I use the 3/16 oz, 1/4oz, 3/8oz. But a 1/8oz an occasion too. funny, I switched my very first 1/4oz spinnerbait to larger gold blades for more thump. I put on the blue glimmer skirt and trailer. After a great morning of catching bass on it a big pickerel came parallel to the drop off out of the water on the rocks as I picked up the spinnerbait and ripped it off my line. He wanted it more than I did, my jaw dropped in shock. My very first working spinnerbait.

We're using the wrong bait? How about a bacon flavored scent? lol I think uncle josh did it first with white pork strips. One night I put a pork strip on a plan hook as a kid and at dusk I could see the white strip being pulled every which way. Enjoy this video.

All my line is in boxes, out of the sun, kept in the dark like a mushroom. I have noticed that braid can dryout over time but I don't use it that much.

I use a c-rig with a 1/8oz brass bullet weight, with a brass clicker, a 24" leader with the senko rigged in a eagle claw 249w weedless hook wacky rigged( hook is in the middle of the senko so it flaps its ends as it floats down. I'm fishing ten feet of water. Remember in the 70's it was the split shot rig? We pulled some nice sized bass out of the weeds back then.

I have a older Mitchell spinning reel on a Garcia two star rod. This was my first bass rod. A six foot medium action rod. I still have it today a have a Mitchell 306 and a Mitchell 300 spinning reels. I have a museum. Older baits too. For some reason the early plastic lures attract me too. I have the old telescopic steel fishing poles too. With the very first fishing line in black thread on their orginal spools. With the old metal baitcaster with them. If the guys who fished with these could see these now what were using. I purchased probably the last of the old but brand new Shakespeare's baitcaster. I have a few new ones but some wornout reels too.

You know your old when, When you walk in a antique shop and your very first good quality fishing tackle is in it for sale. And it's double the cost when it was brand new. The worst part is you still have it and use it too. You just can't let anything go. I purchased this fishing equipment when I received my very first income tax check. I purchased D.A.M. QUICK spinning reels and Garcia 5 star rods. Back in 1973. I purchased a new truck, with the fishing tackle and put 20k miles on that truck fishing every weekend the whole summer. I miss those days when nothing else mattered but fishing. what reminds you of your age when it's a antique now..? Memories?

Orange has been a good color locally here at places that no boats are allowed. I happen to stop every so often to try different colors just to see if they work at that time. I need to get some orange/Shad colors. I just purchased more rapalas in orange. i noticed in the place where the orange color works the green Shad culprit worm works too. Since these spots aren't fished heavy they don't know our baits yet.

Cats? Hush puppies, big hush puppies. I gutted a catfish and rolled him across a charcoal fire. That's good eating.

Sounds like you need to fish different baits? Try a scent? Wash your hands like I do with big orange before going fishing. Don't touch the gas pump while on the way to go fishing. Change your ways. I follow a routine exactly. remember I said we can have different water conditions as the water column goes deeper. Chartreuse can be our friend. Yup been there. it about attitude too. If we say we're not going to catch anything while on the way there stay home. You jinx yourself. I'm so up beat nothing can touch me when I'm in the zone not even the bears.
