Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Just purchased another 9606 split roof tacklebox. I fish with five tackle boxes now. Near the car of course. I’m not ready to down size yet. But I know it’s coming. i purchased many whooper ploopers, custom painted baits, just need more storage space. in my tackle room I have 18 tackle boxes with different baits, plus those large green spinnerbait boxes I use for storing plastics like 12 of those. And card board boxes full of new baits. Im called a hoarder but I still can see the floor. Ok I buy new baits that interests me.

strong spinnerbaits
I’ve caught 29” to 32” large pickerel. These bigger toothy critters are tough on baits and tackle too. I haven’t had any bending problems with the manns classic “hank Parker” spinnerbaits as it was once called. But the cheaper spinnerbaits do get bent up.

Your Favorite Spinnerbait
Manns Hank Parker Classic spinnerbaits. White(blue glimmer skirt) or chartreuse skirt. Double Indiana gold blades. Or Colorado twin blades or one big blade. It’s all about that thump, that thump. Clear water, stained water, muddy waters it’s still the thump. Any 1/8 oz, 3/16oz, 1/4oz dirt cheap white or chartreuse spinnerbaits. i think my setup is the key to my success. I use the mister twister 4” split double tail grub trailer. I trim the front of the body to fit the hook. I add a trailer hook. A shot of shad scent and then I drown it. fact you must assemble the grub trailer to the spinnerbaits so it runs vertical without turning or spinning out of control. You have to learn this. i have a supply of blue glimmer replacement skirts. When I change the chartreuse skirts I put on the hot chartreuse skirts. dont forget to use the sight line to your advantage too. Above the sight line means you can see the spinnerbait. Below the sight line the spinnerbait is gone from your view. Sometimes the bass are finicky and won’t come up to strike the spinnerbait. You slow up the speed so the spinnerbait runs below the sight line in the basses face they can’t refuse it. I’m a shore fisherman and if it works for me it will work for anyone. Don’t let that little pea brain out think you. Stay motivated and focused. i still have to thank Glenn for staying with me, helping me to get spinnerbaits to work for me. This was back when this site was new.

Tackle storage
I just ordered my third 9606 hip roof tackle box for my new topwater baits. I’m out of room again. I carry five tackle boxes in the car. I fish from shore near the car. But I carry everything now. Topwater x2 , crankbaits, plastics, weedless baits. Plus scents. It’s tough to leave anything home. i don’t know how some use one tackle bag?

Barrett Jackson auto auction
An American motors hornet. buy it, detail it, don’t fall in love with it, flip it. im a borderline hoarder, I can still see the floor. Lol. I have like ten Husqvarna vintage dirtbikes. Old tractors, besides more fishing stuff than a mom and pop fishing store.

Barrett Jackson auto auction
It makes me sick to watch my cars from years ago bring so much money. I junked there cars. i have my eye on a very rare muscle car that only 800 were manufactured for one year. The car is orginal in excellent condition. It’s only $10,000 less than its valued at. I could get it for $14,000 I think. I’m thinking flip it. Or sent it to BJ auction? Throw it out there for $30k my older brother had a ‘64 Chevy s/s convertable, Black with red interior, 409 with dual quads 425hp, four speed. Imagine what this car is worth today. He had 63’s, a 68 Plymouth road runner he raced at English town Nj. send me back, time travel to get these cars, lol. i built drag race engines as a teenager and cars too. My last car was a 63 s/s Chevy impala, 396/400hp ran 12.85 seconds in the quarter mile on the second run. Wasn’t dialed in yet. This was my calling building cars and engines. Then i gave it up, went fishing, then I met my misses. Then the kids came but building engines is still in my heart at 67yo.

Scouting
The biggest improvement for me is the hummingbird portable fish finder the pod you cast out. I use it to learn the bottom structure. Once I learn the depths, the flats, the drop offs, the holes I then know how to fish it. i see fish on the screen but pay no attention to them.

How long to become a good angler?
The day I switched from using livebait and lures to lures only I knew I was pretty good at bass fishing. When lures started out fishing livebait. The better I became the more I wanted to try and learn every lure. It’s reading the water conditions and what lure size and color to use. What presentation to use too. It’s a matter of staying focused and motivated. Never give up even on a tough day. Determined not to give up. i was spending $50+ on livebait per week. Once I learned how to use lures I purchased more lures with that $50. one day I went through every lure in my tackle box. I know in the past where the bass are. I didn’t give up being skunked was unacceptable. I put on a firetiger crankbait with those black triangle shapes and caught a few bass. This made me think about having different water conditions within the water column. It’s looked slightly stained to stained on top. But as it goes deeper it becomes a darker stained to muddy. My motto is now when in doubt chartreuse can be your friend. Be flexible don't stay with one color. you can be as good as you want to be your I Control of your destiny. Read everything here, watch every video, then get on the water and try what you learned. Nothing beats time spent fishing. Again stay focused and motivated. Forget all other thoughts, think fishing only. Focus on your presentations. Don’t get caught up fishing too fast. Slow is better. just go out and practice the fish will interrupt you when you get it right. im no pro but I have the heart of one.

Enormous size differences.
You talk about trout being on the diet of bass. There’s a small upper lake that’s stocked well with trout. But I don’t see many trout being caught. One day I seen a big swirl in the water made by a big fish turning. My guess is it’s a great northern pike. The stream that feeds this lake is connected to a lake that has great northern pike in it. This pike is eating most of the trout. No one has any clue what’s going on. Lol.

Enormous size differences.
It’s been said that Perry caught a second bigger bass after the record breaker and they ate it. my PB of 10lbs isn’t a freak, I’ve seen and lost bigger bass. One hot spot is fed from a big lake it gets the run off. It’s a man made dam that captures the run off and fish. It’s a very healthy eco system. Farther down stream is another dam and a larger body of water. its not the smaller bass that are keeping the bass population numbers up. the local game wardens with there electric shock boat can only operate in 25/30 feet of water so there not seeing these bigger gals. i say we have bigger bass in every body of water, there not being caught. from shore I’m so stealthy it’s like I’m not there. Walk lightly, make no noise, close the car door quietly, handle your tackle so there’s no noise. I use a spinning reel so there’s no click when the baitcaster spool locks in after a cast. I open and close the spinning reel nail by hand softly. No noise, do not talk to yourself, keep your one battery flashlight in the roof of your tacklebox. Do not let the glare hit the water. If you practice all of this it will become second nature. Being stealthy is the key to catching a bigger gal near the shoreline. if you flash the light in the water near the shoreline you will see freshwater eels. I think this is what the bass are after. They are a dark brownish color. i mentioned bigger bass on a ct website and got slammed for it. All of a sudden some members started catching 9 to 11lb bass. Trust me they are out there. the bass aren’t native to out area. Years ago we had a bass hatchery. The hatchery is shut down but some bass are still there. My point is I’m not sure what strain of bass they used. what scares me is I see freshwater otters at twilit before dawn everywhere I fish. I can picture in my mind an otter eating a new state record.

Overusing a bait?
In using the same baits all year long I notice the fish learn our baits. What is a hot bait this year will catch less fish next year. I fish the same smaller places every year. It’s good to change baits like a baseball pitcher throws a different pitch. If your not getting any action I change my scents too.

Tackle Storage
I have two 9606 split roof tackle boxes one for topwater and one for crankbaits another split roof box for weedless stuff. I gave my Denny Baur magnum tackle bag full of 3700 boxes with baits to my son. All new baits. I need another topwater box soon. during the rain I keep my tackle boxes closed as much as I can. When I get home I leave them open to dry them out just Incase. I haven’t had anything rust in decades. But I keep my salted plastics in a seperate box.

What would you really want as a gift?
I’m giving my misses money for her family trip to Italy. As a gift for me I need nothing. After having cancer everyday is a gift that I’m still on this side of the green. It’s going on six years now I’m cancer free. I did buy some new topwater baits. i Just used my gift cards from the 2016 Christmas presents. I had a pile of them.

Oh No Mr. Bill!
My three outside cats along with my four inside cats are camped out around the woodstove. We had a brief touch of the january spring thaw but it’s cold again with 7” of snow hitting ct tonight. There saying 50 degrees to follow this snow. I did buy extra firewood last fall. It’s New England weather. i think this cooling off is part of global warming, but it’s a natural cycle of the earth. We’re ok. that new insulated camo hunting gear really works. im hoping this really cold weather will kill some of the tic population.

Let’s talk italian food
I’m italian and every holiday it’s homemade pasta. As we (misses) get older it’s rough making and prepping all the foods. Our local market has celetano frozen pastas. But it’s close but not homemade. I was asked to checkout this place in ny city called Pastosa ravioli there online and do mailorder. This is as close to homemade pasta as I ever had. Check them out. There manicotti is just like homemade. This pasta is fresh made. Add sauce to the pan, add the manicotti cover with some sauce and bake 20 to 25 minutes. No preservatives i been insearch of italian sausage too. I found some great sausage at Espositos sausage in ny city too. There online. No preservatives another good sausage is at wholey in penn. Another great product. Online ordering. No persertavies. Lets talk about any foods. lets talk about good food. If you know of any other good sausage makers or foods post. I want to get away from persertavie chemicals. theres just too many of us baby boomers having health problems as we get older.

Older Norman DD22 HD Weights
In fishing the same places every year I find what’s the hot bait this year will change next year. You won’t catch the same numbers of bass next year. This tells me the bass learn our baits. Fishing the same spots over and over. We need to be on top of our game with every bait and presentation to have continued success.

spring time spinner bait colors
Gin clear water, 1. blue glimmer skirt, gold blades, mister twister white 4” grub split double tail trailer. Stained water, 2. Chartreuse skirt, gold blades, mister twister chartreuse 4” grub split double tail trailer. muddy water, 3. Hot chartreuse skirt, gold blades, mister twister chartreuse 4” split double tail trailer. I prefer Indiana blades but in a pinch Colorado blades will do too. It’s all about that thump.
