What if we put nightcrawlers in a bucket with used coffee grounds? id have to break my no fishing with livebait law.

I cast near them with crankbaits. I did catch a large silver salmon near one. In this spot one beaver is 48” long with his tail. the beavers and freshwater otters are making a comeback. Everywhere I fish has beavers and freshwater otters. Otters are out at first light. I seen a doe with her two fawns at the waters edge trying to get a drink. Two playful otters were splashing them. It was fun to watch, I was about 50yards away. Being there fishing every morning at the time they weren’t afraid of me.

For a shore fisherman who fishes night and day donuts could be a problem. I’ve had a blackbear incounter using garlic scent I spilled on my rear bumper. I’m on a low bridge, he’s at my car, I have no where to go. Now I need to add donuts? Lol now what grade of coffee to use? Very strong high test. What if they want cream and sugar? Lol im going to try kraft italian zesty salad dressing with a tad of Regina red wine vinegar. It’s actually a combination I like. I’ll bet the fish will too. btw it’s good in salads and on italian grinders too.

I can or we can give advice but the location dictates on how to fish it with what. I went to buy another hummingbird smartcast fish finder. I have the wristwatch screen with the pod you cast out. I contacted hummingbird and it’s been discontinued. What a loss for shore fisherman. Not only did it find fish it gives the layout of the bottom structure, the depths, were the flats are, where the holes are, the transition areas are. It’s a big help to shore fisherman when there is no topo map for these small bodies of water. Another great tool gone from the shelves. I was able to order new pods for my older smartcast. the only way to learn about a small body of water is to drill holes when the ice is on and using a weight map out the depths. This smartcast surely saved time when fishing new places. i owe getting one of the first smart casts to my son he told me that Walmart had them. He bought the first one. Then I purchased another one.

I learned to through a ritual of different baits, colors, sizes till I get action. The bass will tell me when it’s right. i use the manns Classic ( really the Hank Parker Classic Spinnerbait) spinnerbait in white with the twin Indiana gold blades. It’s comes with a blue glimmer skirt and I add a mister twister 4” white split double tail grub and a trailer hook. For clear to shaded water(shade trees). For stained water it’s the manns classic in chartreuse, mt 4” chartreuse trailer. I do change the skirt to a hot chartreuse. i also play with the sight line. Above the sight line we can see the spinnerbait, below the sight line we can’t see the spinnerbait.

It’s disassemble it check and replace the bearings, oil and grease it. Or replace it. Determine wether it’s worth repairing or replacing. Fact,,,First I noticed a noisy reel can send that noise down the line like a guitar string into the water. I fished a sucluded hidden pond once with a cheap spinning reel that the bass wore out. I was reeling in when a sunfish was angled and like listening were my line entered the water. This told me my noisy reel was sending noise into the water. I purchased a new reel.

In the dark I find the big gals are feeding at the shoreline. There easily spooked. I cast past them parallel to shore and bring my bait slowly by them. If their working the pads I use the open water near the pads and again cast past the pads in the open water and slow up my presentation just before the pads. Every situation can be different. Choosing the correct pattern along with the right presentation is the key to success. When I first look at the water, what are the fish doing? Topwater or below the surface? A shallow crankbait near the shoreline is a good place to start. As the sun gets higher the bass move to their deeper haunts. My casts get longer to stay moving with them. bass fishing “from shore” is like saltwater fishing. The tide comes in and out with saltwater fishing, the fish follow the tide. With bass fishing the lighter it gets the deeper the bass go to cover to hide. The bass come close to shore in the dark conditions, they move deeper in the light conditions. My point is your in a boat you can follow them. From shore we’re limited as they go farther away. nothing beats the experience we get from the time we spend fishing. watch the videos here, read every article, often, then go out and apply it. you will become a better fisherman.

I been here since the very beginning with Glenn he has helped me along. I’m a better spinnerbait fisherman because of Glenn. Now Hank Parker too. I seen him on the big lake in NH using a manns baby 1 crankbait in browncrawdad, he was killing smallies. That spring I used that crankbait and was killing lmb. my point is we’re better fisherman because of these guys. They have no clue as to how many fisherman they have helped. Think like a bass,,,,,,lol. Your starting to get the hang of it. It only gets better the more we learn. Remember once we learn how to fish at one place, it applies everywhere we fish, that goes with baits and different presentations too. I find it a challenge to figure out what pattern will work today. I also like to take one bait and see how many different presentations I can do with it. its not luck that catches fish it’s skill.

Talk about fishing in small bodies of water. A new mall was built. My misses goes to the gym there. There is a man made drainage pond there about a acre and a half. She was feeding the ducks there and noticed fish eating the bread too. So we went fishing there. The bass were dinks the first year, the second year they were half a pound. Each year they grew. Within five years we had 3 lbers. Mixed with smaller bass, there is plenty of little panfish for them to feed on. The growth rate matters on what food is available.

Here in ct the DEEP uses a boat with a shocker. The fish float up. I guess then they do a head count per area. But it doesn’t work in the deeper water. The bass aren’t native to our area. They were hatched in a hatchery here. Once the population grew to where it could sustain itself the hatcherys were shut down. i think the trout are still bred in hatcherys here.

There’s a spring fed little body of water where if you step out on a rock cropping out six feet above the waters edge you can see big bass all over the place. I tossed a few baits and got no action. When a sunfish hit my rebel bumble bee as I was reeling it in a big bass from the other side of the place headed over to eat it. As I pulled the sunfish out of the water the bass swam by me. This place is hidden in the woods you have to hike there. this tells me bigger bass eat sunfish. They want a meal not a snack. funny I meet a dad with his kid at Walmart. The dad was bragging how the kid catches big bass 10lb +. The place is in his neighborhood. I knew where he was talking about. That’s the spot I said above. I told him the main road to get there his jaw dropped. I have caught 29”, 30”, 32” big chain pickerel. What a fight. I was warned they will bite us. I caught a 15” pickerel who swallowed my crankbait and tried to bite me while I tried to remove the crankbait.

Fact bigger bass eat the smaller bass, plus the pickerel get their share too. lets say your catching 1.5lb to 2lb bass and it ends. I switch from a number 3 mepps anglia to a number 4 or a 5 anglia. Same color, the bigger bass hit it. The bite is on again. Seeing this the bigger bass come in to see what the smaller bass are eating but they won’t bite the smaller baits. So it gets slow, I upsize my baits. Sometimes the smaller bass won’t strike the larger sized baits and sometimes they do. But the bigger fish do shut down the smaller bass action. This tells me they eat their own too.

My Best Buy’s on sunglasses have been at Walmart during their winter markdowns. I perfer amber but any mark down glasses will do. try amber color glasses for night driving. I been using them for decades on the motorcycle at night. It cuts down the glare of the on coming headlines.

I trim the body on the mt grub so it fits the length of the hook. Even the cheap spinnerbaits work if we tweet them. i find my skirts at brannans bass shop. The blue glimmer skirt for the white spinnerbait and the hot chartreuse skirt for the chartreuse spinnerbait. dont forget I’m a shore fisherman I keep spinnerbaits small but with the larger skirt so it has a wider view. Bulk is the key.

I purchased more custom painted crankbaits from River Rat on eBay. He has some nice looking baits. thanks bluebasser86 I just purchased those eels to try. there the same color as the real eels I see at the shoreline at night.

Road warrior is 100% correct. Blockout distractions. Get into your own zone. I watch my rod tip for movement and vibrations. You can change speeds by watching your rod tip. So you won’t go too slow. With a floating crankbait I go just fast enough so it stays submerged making it look like an easy meal. The presentation is as important as the color and size too.

After having prostate cancer it’s zero on the PSA, I’m having back problems. Besides having two wornout knees, I have three bulging discs, spinal stenosis , sciatica too. I can’t walk, sit for too long I get shooting pain down my left leg. I rest most of the time. My local surgeon won’t operate. I’m a big man plus my health isn’t that good. Before it became worse I would lean against the guard rail and fish. Luckily the waters edge is close by. for pain relief at work I’d hang myself from the overhead crane to stretch my spine. I’d use the nylon straps under my arms. when I switched to longer rods to cast farther from shore it didn’t help my back any. I make long casts to hit target areas where I see active fish that most can’t reach that’s the key to shore fishing. Either fish close to shore our go out farther. I try to follow the fish from the shoreline as the night turns to day. When they move to there deeper cover. im on the opioids now for pain, great. Bad backs run in the family. Just take it one day at a time. whats this Kratom? I’m going to see my pain doctor soon I’ll ask him too.

I worked on a lot of muscle cars. As a teenager into my early twenties. When I met the wife everything changed when the kids were born. back in the day during Mark Donahue racing the amc javelin days when I worked for AMC they offered a high performance camshaft kit as a factory upgrade. It fit there v8’s. One car I worked on that I liked was the rebel “the machine” it had a 390 v8 and she was red, white, blue. All the javelins in that era were nice too. The mark donahue javelin was nice too.

I mention italian food because not everyone has italian food available across our country. It’s so easily done with Pastosa ravioli. Stuffed shells or manicotti just add sauce and bake 20 to 25 minutes. Make some home made garlic bread and a salad your good to go. Any pasta you boil should be aldente still chewy not over cooked soggy. Tender yet chewy.

How about using a lizard at night. Lizards eat the bass eggs. Bass eat lizards? the only thing we’re i fish is snakes, big snakes during the daytime. Has to be even worse at night. i did kill one when it veered up to strike me. My fishing rod became a whooping stick.
