Welcome to one of the finest bass fishing forums on the world wide web. I read on old article for a reel advertisement that said a 5.2 ratio was fast. Things have surely changed through the years. I use a 5.2 ratio spinning reels mainly. I do have a 6.3 ratio spinning reel for burning spinnerbaits. In crank bait reels I use a 5.2 ratio. 6.3 ratio and a 7.1 ratio reels. Lure speed(line speed) is depending on how fast you turn the crank. When you want to burn a lure faster or not. I maily use a 5.2 ratio reel. its a matter of personal choice. your 6.2 ratio is a good starting place. I read about a 9.0 ratio too. I think the faster ratios are for the pros during a tournament when they get a strike and a miss they can get it back to the boat and recast faster?

I went to the bomber site and found they no longer offered the model A'S. I didn't see the shallow A's too. I guess there discontinuing more models besides my bomber FAT A that's long gone. If you like them and use them with success you better find the shallow A and model A and get a few. I just placed a $125 order for the colors and sizes I use. if you cant find them look at brannans bass

I just moved up to a better rod from the cheaper ones to a lews speed stick spinning rod. I can feel the difference. I shopped around and found these at very affordable prices too. I own many of the lews spinning rods now. I have some better quality bait caster rods too. Shop around for the better deals

There's nothing on this earth that matches the feeling or sight of the dark of night turning to light as the sky starts light up the sky. Then the twilight turns to daylight. Be careful with used reels on sleezebay. I was collecting the older Shakespeare bait casters for my museum to show how reels advanced. I like to try them too. Some are worn out parts reels sold as good working reels. While some are still like new. It's a pig in a poke.

Inline spinners like a mepps XD 3 in silver white tail. While using it for bass a perch always hits it.

Look for the Mann's classic spinnerbaits. In blue glimmer(white) or chartreuse. These Mann's classics offer a double gold Colorado or a Indiana blade and a Colorado blade. These seem to work for stained to muddy water conditions.The Mann's spinnerbaits are tough to find I get them from Amazon.com.

I keep used plastics two ways one in a seperate zip lock bag so the wet plastics don't ruin the new plastics. And sometimes I use a 3700 with used plastics still with the hooks in them for quick changing baits.

Mepps anglia #3 Silver blade.....Gray tail Gold. Blade.....Brown tail White/red blade..Gray tail Silver blade.....Brown tail Gold blade.......Gray tail Use the #4 & #5 to upside when the bite stops. 2. Joe's fly 1/4oz bass size. Firetiger apache or glo tiger overcast dark conditions. Blackgnat, white Miller, mellow yellow, gold blade or silver blades. 3. Wordens rooster tail. White Dalmatian white fly silver blade. 4. Panther Martin spin fly. The silver blade with the yellow tail is very successful here. 5. Strike king inline. Silver blade black fly #3 Most silver blade with a black fly in lines produce fish. The smaller panther Martin's are awesome in rivers.

I been using the model car lacquer rattle cans from an online model supply house. I purchased the clear lacquer coating as well as the metal flake lacquer. I'm still practicing mixing and blending. I have a complete air brush outfit but I'm not ready to graduate yet.

Lunkerville was on tv today. They mentioned the bass resource guide as a Sponcer. I guess this forum is famous. The misses was walking our dog at a lake that's stocked with trout. She was on the trail near the water when she heard a very loud body slam hit the water. She screamed. I told her it's a big bass feeding on trout in the shallows near the shoreline. She missed seeing the fish but seen the ripples in the water right after. I hear these noises at another place were I fish around 9pm just as its getting dark. I guess it's pretty common at night to hear the bass breech?

Thanks for this post I just replaced my #5 fly rod I broke over a decade ago. I have 6 or 7 fly rod setups up to a heavy bass #9. It's time to get fly fishing as the weather heats up.

I'm thinking about making a senko mold. I'm thinking of a straight even hole threw a piece of hardwood? Or using steel tubing then just push them out. What do you do for a release agent.

I use the ball bearing locking snap swivels. Your getting a wider wobble that's for free because the snap swivel acts as a hinge so the side to side movement is smoother too. I use my hummingbird portable fish finder to tell me how the bottom layout is besides the depth and where the holes are. Then I can use the proper crankbait for that depth.(I'm fishing from shore) it's no different than a boat only backwards. I also skip around fan casting the area too. I don't do side by side casts next to each other. I "skip cast" the area. I do use shallow cranks, med depth cranks and deep bottom bouncing cranks were knowing the depth allows me to use the correct depth lure.

Welcome to spinnerbaits. My first one was a small one blade spinner bait in white. Glenn here guided me through the basic spinner bait specs for success. My two main setups are, Clear to slightly stained water. 1/4oz gold Colorado blade, blue glimmer skirt with a mister twister 4" split double tail grub as a trailer with a trailer hook. Stained to muddy water, 1/4oz gold Colorado blade, hot chartreuse skirt with a mister twister 4" split double tail grub as a trailer with a trailer hook. Don't forget a shot of YUM shad scent. This is a suggestion to get anyone going into spinnerbaits. I'm sure the larger ones work. I just haven't graduated from the smaller ones yet. I just ordered some from Sieberts Outdoors to try them.

Fix it I believe the reel noises can go down our line into the water.

The rain never stopped us from fishing before I hit my 60's. Now the arthritis stops me. I enjoy fishing during the warm light rain.

If the bite shuts down I change the size of my lure first I up size. The bigger fish won't hit the smaller lure. If nothing happens then I change lure color. If nothing happens then I throw my ritual of lures again figuring the pattern has changed or the water conditions changed. I'm fishing from shore so I don't move that much so I adjust to the situation regroup and attack. I'm not sure of the fermone part. I just scent my lures and keep on fishing

Welcome to the wacky world of plastics!!!!!! Now try a 1/8oz weight with a 24" leader with your wacky rigged senko. It's called a Carolina rig. I get a little more casting distance with the weight. Since I have a hard time trying in the low light I use snap swivels for the hook on the Carolina rig. I can change baits quicker. I pull off the wacky rigged senko and snap on a pre hooked brushog. I use the eagle claw weedless hooks too.

Some here put old Christmas trees on the ice so we have better structure in the spring.

I use either 6# or 8# on the smaller #20 & #25 spool spinning reels I use the 10# / 12# /14# & 17# on the larger #30 & & #40 spool spinning reels. I just purchased the US REEL SUPER CASTER spinning reels with the larger diameter spools to see if they will add to my casting distance. I'm looking to cast past my target area and bring my lure more stealthy into the target zone. Like cast past the pads and walk my spook into the targeted area. Sometimes being sneaky pays off too. Other times it's the splash of the lure that draws attention.
