This could get interesting. I used Excalibur silver thread ever since I read there test on it. It took the most bending cycles and abrasion tests over some other name brand lines. There results are no longer posted. But I been using this copolymer line for a longtime now. I find it sold out at most places and even at the manufacturer it's sold out too. I been wondering if any of you guys or gals are using the vicious brand of copolymer line? Or what copolymer line do you suggest. My problem is I see mostly braided or fluorcarbon line. Is copolymer being fazed out?

Sounds like the bass were suspended in open water away from the structure. My cranks are my number one lure. I mastered them right away.

I use my plastics with no scent at first. If I get a hit and it misses it one shot of scent and it's a hookup on the next cast. I use the weedless hooks and when the weedless guard comes up open I know it was a strike.

When I first started bass fishing I wanted to buy and test all the scents to see which one was better. I purchased the original estimate bass scent. I found this one to work awesome. Ok my ratings so far are, I'm honest now. 1. Baitmate bass, garlic, crawfish, worm/crawler, live bait. The best 2. YUM shad, crawfish. Another good choice. 3. Megastrike I caught nothing every time I tried it. 4. Bang crawfish another good choice. 5. Bang shrimp saltwater excellent. I'm still trying all of them it's ongoing. I'm not sure when fishing the same small places if the fish learn our scents. But on a slow day I switched from a bass scent to a garlic and the bite was on. Maybe they like a change in flavors too?

I have my setups like this, 1. Spinning topwater lure rod only 7' 2. Spinning crankbait lure rod only 7' 3. Spinning inline spinners to 1/8oz to 3/16oz spinnerbaits 6'6" 4. Spinning smaller lures 5'6" 5. Spinning carolina rig / plastics 6'6" 6 Crankbait jig n pig 6' 7. Crankbait smaller spinnerbaits 1/4oz to 3/8oz. 6' 8. Crankbait larger spinner bait 1oz+ to 1 1/2oz 7' These are my setups for now. I'm still upgrading my reels, rod lengths and matching everything to my line test. Fishing from shore my average carry is 5 rod setups.

We beat up the cheapest zebco's way beyond believe as kids. In saltwater we would cast out the whole spool using a 1oz. sinker. Thank you zebco for many years of fishing fun as kids. You made the summer fun. You kept us out of trouble too.

I have two Shakespeare baitcasting reels that cost me $12 and $15 over a decade ago that still function today and there quality is no were near this one. They might be two decades old. I'm very impressed with the workmanship inside this reel. As soon as my new rods get here I'll hammer it with spinnerbaits and well see the bass beat it up too. I notice the bass will tear it up if it's not a quality product. I seen this with other spinning reels. If your just getting into baitcasting and not sure if you will like it or not why not buy an affordable reel at first? That's why I purchased the shakespear reels first. I also have a newer Mitchell broadcaster too that cost me much more. I do have a super sized baitcaster setup with a larger quantum reel on it too. It's more for pike. I use baitcasters for spinnerbaits and jig n pigs mainly. Since I got away from the cheap low dollar borderline spinning reels I haven't had a problem with them. The Wal-Mart quantum, the vivas, the okumas, the finors and the pleugers all serve me well. My D.A.M. Quick spinning reels from the 70's still are like new today. These were top of the line back then. These were my trout setups. I do maintenance on every reel so if it fails it's not a lube problem The cheap spinning reels were like $5 new. They were ultra light setups. They were good for trout but once the bass hit 3lbs they tore these reels up. Go figure. I figured using an ultra light setup for bass would be fun but the bass didn't agree. The drags and spool bearings were toast. These were name brand reels too I contacted the manufacturer and they sent me new reels but there on the shelf to remind me.

Steak with garlic rubbed into it along with black pepper and parsley on a wood fire. The pour melted butter on it as it cooks for a few more minutes. Garlic mashed potatoes Portabella mushrooms slightly cooked in garlic n butter. Garlic bread with cheese baked crispy. For dipping in the juices. A side dish of cavadeels with Italian hot sausage and meatballs with raisins in them in tomato sause. Pigs feet optional for flavor. Home made cheese cake with blueberries or strawberry toppings.

We are now at our wits end with the predators in ct. There multiplying at a very fast rate. I have a place in vt and I'm aware of my surroundings at all times. I also My family to be aware too. To trust the dog and read there body English and even my cats too they will let you know when danger is present. One of my cats is a living smoke alarm. He sounded off as the wood stove backed up with smoke. My other three slightly tamed feral cats there heads are turning 360 degrees when a predator or danger is nearby. My dog has a different bark when something is wrong. Sunday afternoon my wife's girlfriend was headed down our street when a black bear the size of our kitchen table ran from the water shed land across the street into a rural populated area a few houses down from me. I believed her. Just last night in ct; My dog ran to my peach trees it's the first time we have peaches since planting them. These trees are on the left side of my land. My wife noticed a bear was in the back of the peach trees towards my rear border of the water shed land. She screamed for the dog as he approached the bear when he finally seen it after smelling it. This bear I estimate to be between 350 to 400lbs. It's that big and as long as my kitchen table. I noticed my pear trees are missing pears for the first time too. I have Apple trees too. I figure this bear is new to the area because my blueberries weren't touched in the spring. I stopped feeding the deer during the winter two years ago when I seen bear tracks that spring. Now I'm glad I did. My three feral cats were in higher spots sitting looking at the bear. But we don't hunt predators in ct yet. There is no open season. Now I worry about fishing at 3:30am. I fabricated the Reese receiver hitch for an ATV/QUAD to hold a moveable winch from front to rear and for side attachments a decade before it was offered. I came up with a mount to hold a dirtbike on a Reese receiver on the rear of my suburban. I never gave the patent a thought too. I think the guy who purchased my quad or someone who seen it on my trailer patented it. Someone had to see my dirtbike mount too there both manufactured today. Stealing ideas goes all the way back to the VCR cassets, the editable arrangements, ect. I have a lot of ideas being a lead engineering tech but I keep them under wraps now.

I left out the Hank Parker Special it's the Mann's baby 1 crankbait in Brown craw he used in his fishing in NH tv show. It's the first crankbait to ever catch fish for me and a decade later it's still working. I've caught many bass on it plus I had a giant salmon hit it too. Since it runs shallow a slow reel is needed. My buddy used one in chartreuse with a dark back and it caught fish too. Again this proves all the different colors work at certain times. I call my Mann's crankbait the "HANK PARKER SPECIAL".

I keep a zebco reel on a telescopic with some lures under my motorcycle seat. I have two ultra light zebco reels on ultra rods. There a blast to use on panfish. We used the zebco reel "202" on a short rod for freshwater fishing and saltwater fishing too, when were kids for many years. We actually wore one reel out per year. The shafts with no bearings would wear so bad the teeth would skip engagement. But we hammered these reels with saltwater fish too. We caught fish from flounder, harbor blues to 6' eels. Way beyond the panfish they were made for. These reels kept us fishing as kids.

No way a poor man's reel. I'd rather save money to buy more lures. I can buy anything I want right now but I'm frugal too, not cheap. I think it's a great entry level baitcasting reel. It's affordable for the younger crowd.

I just ordered 3 New baitcasting rods for $30 with shipping. From "fish and save" I looked everywhere but no really good deals. I did order some more Mann's spinnerbaits from BPS. My cheapest rod was $4.99 and the most expensive rod was $9.99. I'm not cheap I'm frugal. Sorry but I wouldn't know the difference between a good rod or a telephone pole. I just need a decent reel with the better quality line. You guys will beat me to death if I break the state record for LMB on cheap equipment? My PB so far of 10lbs. Was caught with a Shakespeare Blackbeauty 6' rod with a quantum spinning reel using Excalibur silver thread 8lb. line, using a rebel BIG CLAW crawfish crankbait at 4:30/5:00am. Two feet from shore while casting parallel to the shoreline. Good quality line does matter and having your drag adjusted correctly too.

I bid the $1.40 they asked and paid the $29 ship. They reversed it now it's $29 + $5 to ship. I ordered another one last night. I want to use baitcasters for my spinnerbaits Go to Amazon.com and search for DM120RA this gray and red reel will come up under another brand. But it's a twin to the Garcia reel that comes up too? The only problem so far is the book that comes with the reel is all in Chinese. It comes with a reel cover/bag too. It's not listed on eBay by the manufactures name or model number if you search for baitcaster reel it will be there it starts off with 11BB.

I see bigger bass all the time swimming by me. I never see the bigger gals being caught. I think it's the size of our lures that attracts them or makes them just pass by. There big because there smarter. It's good to have an assortment of smaller, to midsize, to larger lures so you can try them all in certain situations. I just had the saltwater topwater lures repainted in bass lure colors along with my mister twister super top props. I even have some northern pike lures to throw too. I find there are bigger bass in the 4 bodies of water where I fish I see them. If we have big bass in ct. Then all the other states have to have them too. It's a fact there not being caught. Since bass aren't restocked all the millions of baby bass aren't all comming from fish under ten pounds. These big gals do not do the 9 to 5 the too. There hiding during the daylite. There cruising in the dark of night. With fishing at night beaware of snakes in the trees at night near the water and the animals. Trust me the woods come alive at night.

Ok here's what I think is happening, the small fish are active and on the bite, I find the bigger fish will cruise in but won't strike the smaller sized lures. The bigger fish will also scare the smaller ones away this is why the bite slows down. Once I upside my lure the bigger fish will hit it. This has happened to me many times now. You may still catch the aggressive smaller fish inbetween the larger fish too that's not uncommon. I just refuse to accept the bite is over when it slows down. I regroup and think about what can I try next. We know the fish are there but they shut down for some reason. I've seen turtles move in and shut them down too as well as the larger fish. Fishing from shore I'm not going anywhere and In fishing the smaller places the fish aren't going anywhere to soon too. It's up to use to figure it out. Fishing from darkness to first light the fish are from the surface, toshallow to deep at this time hunting like sharks. Within five minutes I can catch fish topwater(poppers), to shallow(cranks), to deeper running cranks. As it gets lighter the cruising will settle down and they start to move to there daytime haunts. At this time my carolina rig, my senko's, and my deeper running cranks are more successful along side the weedlines. To do change and fish the weeds with my topwater and shallow cranks. I move from the open water and channels to casting into the weeds/cover. Bass are predators like cats are. It's like playing with a string(lure). Sometimes they will go after it at any speed or we need to slow it down to tease them. Cats will go after anything so the fish are no different. Sometimes even the cat will walk away does that sound familiar? Now change the string to a ball and the cat is back in the game. This is why I change lures till I get action then I'm on a pattern. If it still get no action I change lure color next. I also change the speed of my presentations as I go too.

I think we can get on a ground level of these imports before they go sky high.
