I watched the video here about the mojo rig. It's like the split shot rig only with a tad heavier weight so it will crash thru the weeds. Very interesting. I may try that soon since I checked out two of my haunts and the weeds are taking over. One has a deep hole near the drop off that I pull out fish around it but not out of it yet. It will be interesting if any deeper setups will prove success. I can wait to try different patterns now. I need to have my family with me who fishes so they can learn all this stuff too. My youngest son of 33yo is a natural bass fisherman. I tell him once how to do it and he does better than me. I guess it's the youth.

I just spent I think 3k on bass fishing stuff I went more over board than I thought. Oh well I'm stocked up for non stop fishing. Right now I want a bass boat and a motorcycle in the spring. I'm a changed man.

If you turn your rod when going back to cast you could be wrapping your line around the rod tip and snapping it when you cast without knowing it. For new line get some Excalibur silver thread copolymer.

I would suggest installing a new rod tip after cleaning it up. They do offer a replacement screw on rod tip now. Bill

Don't feel bad your not alone wait till my charge bill gets here. I went hog wild on everything this month. The deals just seem to keep on comming. If it's on clearance or on sale count me in. We don't really have the buying power all the time. What cost me $1.50 today will cost me $7 down the road if not more. I found two inshore 7' fishing rods two for $8 each, still brand new. Deals like this don't come by that often.

I thought you were going to say you had a mini baitcaster like the one I have for panfish & crappies. A senko no problem. My smallest carolina rigged senko I use a 1/8oz weight. Just to give it some weight.

I like to use the copolymere line.

For clear water I use a strike king mini single gold or silver single colorado blade w/ blue glimmer skirt with a white mister twister 4" split double tail grub trailer. For Stained water it's a a strike king mini single gold colorado blade with a mister twister 4" split double tail grub trailer in chartruese. I have noticed guys throwing large spinnerbaits with no success. My buddy told me to try a smaller one and Glenn advised me here how to set it up and use it. Mann's makes an awesome "classic" spinner bait. I use these in the 1/4oz size with the combination of the Indiana / Colorado blades in gold. With a blue glimmer skirt and a mister twister white 4" split double tail grub trailer for clear water. With a chartruese skirt and a mister twister 4" split double tail grub trailer. Don't forget a trailer hook and a shot of yum shad scent. Remember if you can see the fish they can see you. So wear darker colored clothes. I prefer camo at some places. Using the sight line to our advantage. If you try a few casts were you can see the spinner bait than its above the sight line. Try slowing it down enough so it's out of your sight and below the sight line. Sometimes the bass are finiky and won't come up to hit it. But if it's more in there zone they will hit it. I have done this many times in stainless water.

I feel really old now. A few years back I had rod breaking curse. I broke rods left and right. My last ROD I broke was my first expensive fly rod. I got it on clearances at kittery trading post in kittery,Maine. The first night I used it with awesome success I closed the power window on it and broke the tip. I was going thru two to three rods a year being in a rush and stupid. Now I only buy marked down south bend, shakespear rods. I never know when my curse will return. I am very, very careful now. I maybe able to get a better quality rod soon. But I buy good reels and line. I like the Finor, okuma, viva, quantum Spinning reels. For baitcasters I have my first Shakespear that cost me $12 and it has adjustable magnetics. I have a mitchell and a few other low priced one's.

I was on vacation in Maine and seen my first spinning reels in an antique shop for $70. I have the D.A.M. QUICK Spinning reels. I have on older Fenwick and a Garcia five star rods that go with them. You know your old when your first good fishing equipment becomes antique. This stuff was used for trout only a few months a year. I purchased cheap trout reels for bass fishing in the very beginning but the bass killed the reels. With a constant diet of 2 & 3lbers they wore the reel out. Sorry I went on a roll. I also collect older fishing stuff too. Anything that's not expensive and some stuff that's not really collectable yet. I have many steel fishing poles with baitcaster reels, telescopic steel fishing rod, the first plain Jane plastic lures etc. I grab anything that's part of fishing history for my man cave someday. Been buying old pictures of southern Maine on eBay too. From the late 1890's to the 1930's. I like the history of the old days and the clothes they wore. It's preserring history for the future generations of my family so they can see how things looked over 100 years ago.

I'm fishing mainly from the bank too. It's just starting to be too much. One outing I can remember I had my topwater box, crankbait box, plastiss box, weedless box and spinner bait stuff. It was great fishing. But it's way too much for me now. I won't give up the different rods I carry. I have one of those big very large boat bags, the soft sided tackle bags too. But I use that for the boat outings. I wish one of those big plastic manufacturers who makes the storage and garbagn bins who make a shore fishernan's box on two wheels with a side rod holder and seat. Plus we can have a drawer or tackle box storage on the bottom. Shore fishing hasn't advanced for hundreds of years now. The boats are state of the art. Nothing has changed since the metal tackle box was invented but them being plastic and bigger. This kindle fire hd spell check changes my words sorry for the miss spelling.

I have about 5 tackle boxes filled up and were talking the 9606 large split roof boxes. It's beginning to be a chore to bring it all. I'm thinking of cutting back by going to a smaller tackle box with just my hottest lures. But I hate leaving the different stuff at home. I take 3 9606 boxes now. One with every topwater lure known to man, #2 with every crankbait small to medium size, #3 with all my weedless stuff. When I carried the smaller tackle boxes I would use every lure twice on tough days just to learn what pattern worked on that tough day.(My tip for a tough day use firetiger or that one lure you never used yet) I know by leaving stuff home I will miss it by not having it with me. It's just time to travel lighter on some trips. How do you guys cope with what to bring? Do you travel heavier on certain trips and lighter on others? If I actually brought everything with me I'd need two boats just one for my tackle. Yet I see some pros take a handful of lures. But I have confidence in most patterns but what if it's a tough days. The bottom line is I hate to bring my confidence with me and leave my success at home? I fish against my self on every trip trying to do better. I'm after the numbers.

I get made fun of by my buddy when I bring 5 rod setups to use from shore. I have even more. 1. Topwater / Crankbait / Spinnerbait Pike setup 7' 25lb test 2. Topwater bass setup 7' 20lb test 3. Crankbait bass setup med to large cranks 6'6" 12lb test 4. Crankbait bass setup small cranks 6' 8lb test 5. Spinnerbait bass setup 6'6" 14lb test 6. Spinner bait / inline spinner bass setup 6'6" 10lb test 7. Plastics rig setup. 6' 17lb test 8. Light lure rod setup spin fly 5'6" 6 lb test. I must have about 25 New rods sitting in the rack too. Fishing from shore I take 5 rod setups most of the time. Number #2, #4, #6, #7 & #8 are always with me. I do find the line test does effect the lure action. I have gone to a higher test line were it doesn't matter on my topwater and plastiss. In a boat most of them go with me plus my five tackle boxes if there is room

I think most of these break out companies probably did work before making reels for a name brand shop that sells fishing equipment. Or they copied someone's reel.

I never stay later than 10pm. But I seen guys stay past 10pm telling me to wait till the bass turn on again. They were throwing inline spinner.

Your pulling your lure out of the fishes mouth. When I get a topwater strike I pause for a few seconds. I make sure the fish has got it by the line moving. Once it's confirmed the line is moving I set the hook. Trust me it happens so fast we need to be alert. As said above on a strike and a miss. When this happens I stop moving it. I will see the fish turn to hit it again. Just let it sit. Again when it strikes it again it's for keeps. Watch the line again for movement and set the hook. Someday I may take a beat up spook and cut the hooks off just to see the topwater action strike after strike its awesome to watch.

The bass's eyes adjust to the change in the light conditions faster than the bait fish eyes do making them easy prey. I think the bass can see the brighter lure colors at this time much easier. So the bite will continue for a few more fish anyway. I tried this when I was a kid. I used a UNCLE Josh white pork 4" trailer at dusk. Living near the ocean I think it was a saltwater UJ. I casted it out and used it like we use a swimbait today. I could see it in the dark being pulled every which way in the pond. I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing but the white color worked at dusk. Today I switch from a blackgnat inline spinner to a fire tiger apache Joe's fly. It works.

When I was 100% buy American products in the early 80's no one else was. Then in 1983 what caused our first recession? I went from union job to union job. More like sinking ship to sinking ship. I don't think no one took the lumps more than I did. No one seen it. Today we're still spiraleing downward. We never go up, we level off for a while then dive again. The booming 60's, 70's are long gone. The good paying trade jobs are gone too. In the 80's it was the 21% interest rates on new machine tools that took my job. No one is going to buy a million dollar machine at 21% interest. Sometimes I think the middle class gets too far up the ladder money wise so having a recession knocks us back down again. I can't wait to try this new reel. It could be there foot in the door to supply us with fishing stuff. They been doing it for years and we never noticed it. We probably taught them how to manufacture lures and reels already anyway. Now they cut us out and there on there own. We did predict when China starts manufacturing look out.

I never heard of doing this before but how much faster do you gain in the quarter mile? Just kidding but what is the gain really, do all the tornie guys do these changes? Does the reel perform better or does it last longer? I use only to lube all my reels, moly eliminates all wear, reduced friction, fights corrosion, prevents galling, stays were we put it. Just don't use it on drags or brakes. It's good on bearings and gears. Anywhere there is metal to metal contact.

I forgot I purchased a new Finor spinning rod at Dicks sporting goods a few years back. It's a heavy duty rod that's 7' with lots of backbone. I think it's a salmon rod but I'm not sure the lighting was low. In my rod rack. I did find another rod for my pike & muskie lures too. I want to use larger lures for big bass. I also purchased 5 New south bend black beauty spinning rods too. Plus two inshore spinning rods too just incase the other heavy rods can't handle the heavier lures at the upper section when casting them. It's going to be trial and error for sure till I find what works. I have super large spinnerbaits, a super sized rattle trap, large minnowbaits plus all the larger Muskie/pike lures too. Catching the bigger bass cracked the upper handle when the rod bent when bringing in the bigger fish. My PB of 10lbs was caught on this cheaper rod. I can fish with any rod as long as it can handle the lure weight. This first bass rod the south bend black beauty has caught a lot of bass in a few years. It's been beat up too by the fish.

I do hang my clothes outside sometimes with cut apples in the pickets before there was scents. While at the camp it was GI bucket hand washes everyday. It was ok hand washing our bodies when we were camping/hunting but as I got older I can't do it now. I'll have running water soon.
