  1. Yes, I am aware of the sale. I guess my poorly worded question is; How do they compare to the genuine capricorn? and does anyone use/own both the TD-Pro and the capricorn? Thanks in advance reo
  2. Interested in opinions on Team Daiwa TD-Pro Spinning Reels that are on sale at BPS. I have a 2000 Capricorn that is no longer made (figures cause I love it) and a Dicks version that is not the same quality and am wondering how the TD-Pro stacks up to these two. I could use another spinning reel and have $50 of BPS cards to burn. I would like to get away with less than $90 otd. THANKS!!
  3. On lake erie the white perch will look like a stack of hats on a fish finder. If there are white perch I suspect that could be what you are seeing. Dunno what the pyramid thing could be.
  4. Want to talk about it?? ;D
  5. Fished Ohio waters of Lake Erie east of Cleveland (that's all I will divulge as far as location) in over 90 temps over the weekend and had two banner days with well over 50 smallies brought to hand both days between two anglers and some green fish closer to the harbors in the mix as well. *** did the most damage, t-riged and c-riged in the deeper water. Tubes also took a fair share. What I found most ineresting was that most of the fish came from 6-12 FOW. Although the only slob came from 20 FOW. Great day , at least for me, especially for Mid August. Only snapped one pic of the big girl. The rest were 2-3 pounds with a small number of dinks. reo
  6. 5 pages (so far) and several days of discussion about pee :-? I have not been able to fish much lately due to a family illness but it would seem that fishing has been slow ;D ;D
  7. IMHO, The thing that will have the most profound effect on fish biting your baits.....SKIN CANCER!! :-? Use the sunscreen :
  8. This is my biggest this year. Another Lake Erie fish. Sorry for the crappy photo.
  9. 7 Miles to the nearest Lake Erie ramp.
  10. The X-rap isn't a crankbait. :-? sorry. jerk*bait , but it is still a rapala product. cant recall which one of their baits was having the broken lip problems.. Seems as though I missed some other thread about rapalas but I have had x-raps and husky jerks for years. Never had one fail and they flat out catch fish. I have used them for smallies, largemouth, walleyes and steelhead. No Failures.
  11. 95% of my fishing is done on Lake Erie so I may be WAY off here BUT if it were me I would not run from 8' to 30-40 fow without checking structure in between. Any contour, rockpile or point 15' +/- could hold fish especially if deeper water is near. In addition they may be there one day and not the next. Many variables could dictate; weather, wind, recent rain, current, etc. and last but NOT least bait. Hope this helps reo
  12. It truly amazes me that if someone chooses to spend their dollars in a way that supports their countries workers that they are accused of being scammed by "union propaganda", supporting "corporate fat cats" and having (the most amazing of all) "misguided loyalties". Very, very sad also.
  13. Most of those fine folks don't hit the water until the crack of 10:00. That will give you a few hours of quality fishing time.
  14. Avid = Made in USA 8-)
  15. Congrats!! Nicely done and well deserved!! Perhaps good karma from the help you have given myself and others about the area 8-)

I have been on that site 100's of times, even made quite a few orders from there, and I never noticed that about the mega strike. Learn something new everyday. They make a great tube jig too!! http://www.venomlures.com/venom_jig_heads_tube_jig_heads_60_degree.htm
  17. I do this also. AND the more line that builds up on the dowel the faster the line comes off the reel

Just stuff the tube jig into the open end of the tube and when you get to the end poke the hook eye through. If this is not clear there are you-tube vids that you can watch. look here: or here:
  19. I use it a lot. Never "brittle" but does not have much abrasion resistance, not supposed too either. In open water or sparse cover it is fine for me. It is cheap so I respool every 5 trips or so. (I love fresh line) When conditions warrant an abbrasion resistant line I have rigs spooled up with yo zuri ultra soft. If you are looking for a line to put on the reel once a year XL is not a good choice, IMHO. Different tools for different jobs and as RW said "it is what it is"
  20. It has already been said but I just enjoy the show. It is the reason that I am not trying to catch sheephead.
  21. Be careful. You are about to enter a whole parallel addiction Smallmouth baits, smallmouth rods, smallmouth reels, smallmouth trips to smallmouth lakes and rivers, etc. If you get it really bad largemouth will become almost a disappointment. You have been warned PS: Pound for pound I share your opinion. Better jumps too!!

I will 2nd the venom 60 degree heads. They come through the rock as well as anything I have tried when using the right weight heads. Great hooks. reasonably priced and all my orders are at my door within 3 days. They also had a 10% off everything sale going on when I ordered last week
  23. Because the AMP rods don't use a ECSM (BLANK EXPOSED REEL SEATS), they are using what is called a skeleton seat (just the heal and toe of a seat are mounted). Neither the ECSM or the skeleton seats are break through they both have been around for some time now. The first skeleton seat was made by Fuji® back in the early 80-90's and didn't sell well and they discontinued it. There were a few builders (including myself) testing the skeleton theory, and we found on lighter more brittle thin walled blanks we were having failure issues with a skeleton seat. They were failing right in the middle were the anglers hands would make contact with the blank. Causing sometimes damage to the hands. I know I dumped the idea real quick and opted to use just the ECSM's from Fuji® instead... Just an old builders .02¢ Tight Lines!!! Are there ECSM seats for spinning rods available to builders?? I may have a couple made this winter. Thanks for the clarification on the skeleton seat and the blank failure. Does not sound good.
  24. Here is a video of how to do what you are asking http://www.mudhole.us/vid/reel_seats_wmv.html
  25. I bought one of these AMP rods to see if I liked the handle/reel seat not at all for the split grip. I found I like the direct contact with the blank, which leads to my question(s). For years there have been casting blanks with the blank exposed in the reel seat, why does this seem to be such a breakthrough in spinning rods and are the seats available to builders?
