lake Erie (Do you think that the spawn is over
bug I have been doing very well in the areas you mentioned. The key has been big rock piles or bait on the more subtle humps. Tubes or t-rigged *** 4" trick sticks. I have not got the DS to work lately. By big rock piles, I mean a rise of at least 5' with 12'-18' surrounding. Find some of these and it is possible to take double digits from and next to one pile. Bait balls on or near the bottom in 14'-20' will also have a few fish around them. Not as many as the big piles of rock but generally a 5 lb er or two. Hope this helps reo EDIT: yes I think the spawn is about done. On some of my shallower rock piles I had success with an x-rap today (before the friggin wind began to howl) and could sometimes see 4 or 5 fish following. I am not thinking that bedding bass would do that but I most certainly could be wrong.

Is fishing relaxing (semantics debate)?
For me, yes, it is relaxing. In a leave your troubles and stress from the daily grind behind kind of way. It can be challenging, both mentally and physically but to me it is relaxing. Kinda in a way that others find a phisical workout is relaxing.

How possible is it to make a living just fishing?
Why do poeple who fish for money call it "fun fishing" when they are not fishing for money????

trolling motor props
Aside from weedless options is there any noticeable differences in performance using different types of propellers on a 55 pound 12V MK trolling motor? Speed? torque? etc? I do not have any issues with my current setup, just want to know if I am missing out on something. Thanks reo

Found a boat at a yard sale. Opinions.
Could you please elaborate as to why? I always store mine down if there is ANY chance of freezing but have never heard to do this 100% of the time. Thanks

Presque Isle report
Thanks bugman. been getting some bigger fish to the west of our fine town but looking at Presque for some numbers. A few 4# plus would just be a bonus. Although if conditions permit I am sure the main lake will see at least a little effort 8-) What part of Cleveland are you from?? I live fairly close to the airport.

Avoid Vector battery chargers
Many time I need my batteries charged overnight. solar chargers are not going to do that. About the vectors, I did have one that the fan crapped out on. I bought it used and it was very cheap but I love the smart charger thing so I bought another three years ago..Zero problems so far.

Berkley AMP spinning rod
I have to admit, the reel mount/handle system does leave a lot to be desired but it is a $30 rod.

Berkley AMP spinning rod
Picked up a 7' Berkley AMP spinning rod, 4-12 lb line at dicks for $30 on a whim. After a couple of outings I have to say this is a great "cheap" rod. While I will not say it is on par with my high end loomis or st. croix rods it is a remarkable $30 rod and a GREAT back up or loaner. Not sure about the 4-12 line rating, more like 6-10 though. I have 8# line on it.

fee costs in your state
Can't think of a ramp more than $6.00 to launch that I have used or heard of on Lake Erie. MANY are FREE and are very nice to boot. 4 in or close to downtown Cleveland that are free!

I'm In Love With Lake St. Clair
Central basin of Lake Erie was giving up some SLOBS as well this weekend. For us the fishing was not as fast, it took 6 hours for two of us to boat 25 fish but two were over 6 lbs (rapala digital scale) and several more over 5 lbs. Wacky rigged 4" trick sticks on a drop shot worked best. Also got a few on DHJ 10 in clown and blue chrome.

Balancing a rod?
Great read. I would also add that if you think that the rod will get another reel that is not the same weight, masking tape can be used on the weights to 'build' them up for a tight fit inside the blank for easier removal for future adjustment.

I tried last year and just bought more. It is a great product.

Do you use a net or have one on your boat?
I have never netted a bass as I am strictly CnR and do not tournament fish, if it gets loose at the side of the boat, so be it. But I do have one on the boat as we often hook into things on lake erie that cannot be lipped or lifted ie; walleye, steelhead, GIANT sheephead and catfish. Best way to handle those brutes is to scoop em up.

Handheld GPS
I have had the yellow Etrex (was about $100) for about 5 years. Solid, dependable and accurate. It does all the things you state that you need it to do. If it crapped out tomorrow I would not hesitate to get another. It does have more than one button though it is easy (for me) to use. Hope this helps reo

deep cycle batt
Just until the plates are covered if in any discharged state. Then fully charge and AFTER fully charged fill to bottom of the split ring. Charging will drive electrolites out of the plates.

how long till bass naturally inhabit a man made pond?
Quite possibly never. I grew up with a 1.5 acre pond on the property and no fish ever populated the pond that were not stocked. I was 5 when it was built and 22 when the property was sold, it got stocked with baas and bluegil and that is all that was in it when it was sold, no carp, catfish, crappie, etc, nothing but what was originally stocked. Frogs, turtles and crawdads found their way but no fish. IMO, I think the birds spread fish species around thing is an old wives tale. Humans put the fish in ponds or there is a feeder creek that contains fish.

Tubes fished deep in snarly bottoms
I gotta say that I have zero experience with log jams that deep but would think a pegged t-rig would be the ticket as they are as snagless as it gets in the shallower wood that I do fish. It would also solve the weight problem.

Tubes fished deep in snarly bottoms
I am also wondering about the weedless thing. I fish deep tubes alot on Erie but rarely go out when the drift dictates anything over a half oz. and also use bite me jig heads.
