chatter bait
I tried the 1/8 oz but it raises to the top fast on anything but a slow retrieve. I would use a 1/4oz or bigger if I were you. Chatterbaits fish alot like spinnerbaits. They snag more around wood than a spinnerbait but work great around grass. I burn it in clearer water and slow down in murky water. Big trailers kill the action so I use something long and thin on my chatterbaits a small fluke works great. Good luck

Truly educational/informational bass fishing "game"?
Its not the kind of game your looking for but Booyah has a game out now. Its a flipping and pitching game the keeps score when you hit targets and has several modes you can try. It has fake stumps and a dock on a mat with lily pads. It kinda high I think at $100 but you can make something like this. Its not a video game but it can be played in the house and looks fun.

Truly educational/informational bass fishing "game"?
I have never seen a really good fishing game. Usually anything catches fish. How hard would it be for them to get a few pros to rank lures according to locations and conditions and have that contribute to your success. With all the great games nothing is close to real bass fishing.

Swim baits point me in the right direction!
Over grass I would try Mattlures Bluegills, Berkley hollow bellies, 4in trutungsten shad, sebile magic swimmers, and Jackal Girons. Any topwaters would work 3 of the best are 3:16 wake jr, lunker punkers, and M.S. Slammers. 3:16 Mission Fish also work well down in the grass. Most swimbaits arent made for weedy lakes but you can fish over it with alot of lures.

Is "Sexy Shad" really that good?
Still. I would have to see it to believe it. I think other shad patterns would work as well. Too many factors to say it was the bait let alone color. Start catching fish on the sexy shad then change to a similar color and see if you keep catching them as well that might be a better inidicator.

Your favorite way to pitch/flip
Paca Craws are good in close quarters but I like the gliding action of a sweet beaver better. Tubes and Beaver type baits are actually very similar in action (both glide). It comes down to what do want a gliding action (tubes, beavers) or a flapping swimming action (paca craws, brush hogs, ect.).

Has the bait monkey ever gotten you in trouble??
Someone stole my card # when I made an online purchase. Does that count.

Is "Sexy Shad" really that good?
What it is is a fish catcher. I caught many fish this year on that color when they wouldn't the old standards or anything else. I can agree here....The Sexy shad redeye was a big producer for me this year Its a good color but a Tenn shad pattern likely would have worked as well. How much confidence did you have in the sexy shad color? my guess is alot. And how much did you throw it? Again ALOT. My bold prediction if everybody throws sexy shad crankbaits alot of fish and alot of money will be won on sexy shad crankbaits.

Is "Sexy Shad" really that good?
I have never seen a color be so hyped up. KVD was a genious using that color only in tournaments he won. I am sure its a good color dont get me wrong but come on. When can I get a sexy shad crawdad.

rattle trap
I think it just a question if they will be shallow enough when the temps get very cold.

Pond Pros
1. Zoom Fluke-Watermelon 2. 1/4 oz KVD Swimming Jig-Bluegill-with Zoomwatermelon swimming chuck 3. 5in Watermelon senko The Fluke is the gold standard in ponds. Thats often all you need. The Swimming Jig is new to me but it can replace a spinnerbait and crankbait and doesnt get hung up hardly ever. The Senko is the best bait for slowing down. Fish are rarely on the bottom in ponds so a slow sink is critical. Also its more weedless than a weighted bait. These 3 will catch fish anywhere.

bottom composition for the spawn
The beds can be lighter in color or darker it depends. In rivers that are silty fish look for rocks in creek arms. Usually shallow rip rap. Thats my best spring Ohio River pattern.

Question on timing for Guntersville locals
I am planning my annual vacation to the big G in early May. We are going thu-sun like we do every year. We have been having lots of success going on the 10th thru 15th of May fishing shallow on the main lake. But this year the B.A.S.S. will be there on the 7th-10th and the big bass splash is the 16th and 17th. And would rather be there when no big events are happening. Tournaments are OK we fish small ones there sometimes on vacation just not a circus since catching fish is our first priority. We are thinking of going the 1st-4th of May instead but thats earlier than we ever went. Would this be a good time to go or does the bass fishing pick up better a week or two later. Again we like fishing shallow mainlake pockets not the deeper stuff.

I think they got rid of it because of the schedule change moving the classic to the spring.

bottom composition for the spawn
Right on the money. Also bass prefer to spawn against something like a stump, rock, ect. to help protect the nest. And in lakes with soft bottoms fish will spawn ON TOP of cover. In Florida bass spawn on lily pad stems. Here in Kentucky I have seen bass beds on top of stumps. And believe it or not bass will spawn in the branches of standing timber. So look for protected area, hard bottom, and then cover. In that order. If you know where bluegill spawn bass should be in the same areas not exact spots but close.

Quality vs. Quantity
It depends alot of how much you fish. Catching numbers gets old if you fish alot. If you only go once a month then numbers are great. I dont fish some ponds because I know there arent any big fish. People that fish often eventually end up going after the big fish. Numbers get old big fish dont.

WINTER TIME BAITS
The small has to do with the murky. After drawdown a little rain keeps our lakes murky. Most in eastern Ky I fish are smaller usually 1,000 acres or less. If they arent murky I wouldnt use spinnerbaits or cranks unless its a warm spell and its definately not a warm spell in Winchester, KY now. Id say jigs or Float and Fly now if I was fishing.

WINTER TIME BAITS
Come on guys your better than that Silver buddys-Use on pts especially, cast and hop them down structure or vertically jig them. Cut the bottom hook off the front treble and you will hang up far less. Fish them on a mh rod. Small Jigs-Hair or rubber both work. Hair work great for smallies or spots and in the coldest water. Fish slow use a short rod and feed line to keep bottom contact while fishing down the contour. Work great till water gets in 45 degree range but worth a shot anytime. 3/8oz is most popular followed by 3/16 or 1/4. Float and Fly-Works at temps below 50 when fish are suspended. Works on Bluffs, Points, Pockets, anywhere fish might suspend. Catches all 3 species. Jigging spoons-Usually fished vertically in the coldest water. Look for suspended baitfish in hollows. Suspending jerkbaits-Can be fished on any stucture that might hold suspended fish. Dont get deep enough sometimes. Better when temp is over 45. If you get a warm spell add Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits. And if the water is murky fish will be shallow enough for Crankbaits and Spinnerbaits. But you have to fish slow. Our lakes in Kentucky are small and murky in Dec-Feb. We catch fish on crankbaits and spinnerbaits all winter if the temp is over 45 sometimes lower. But the key is its murky so the fish are shallow. The only thing that matters in winter is FOOD. Fish will relate to baitfish or crayfish (till it too cold). Fish tend to go deeper than Crankbaits and Spinnebaits can be fished in clearer waters and they arent effective alot of times anyway fished slow in clear water. Hope this helps.

Snaps???
Snaps with all crankbaits that dont have split rings. Use snaps with jerkbaits and topwaters that dont have split rings but if its a lure that is sensitive enought the action can be affected use a loop knot instead. Some lures work fine without snaps but they rarely hurt unless its a matter of extra weight. Dont use snaps for anything except hardbaits.

deep water crankin secrets
Biggest secret or trend is lure speed. KVD has been doing well burning his strike king series 6. Others have been doing well slowing down both work but speed can make a huge difference.

Your favorite way to pitch/flip
I still say go with a small jig or texas rig first. Get some confidence and then use a bigger bait.

Spro 4"BBZ-1 Swimbait
Matt great example. The fact is if a copy is cheaper then it is probably not the same quality. Fisherman pay for quality thats a fact look at Lucky Craft. People tend to buy originals but there are some copys that are better and cheaper that take away from the original. Look at what the fluke and others did to the sluggo. People prefer the fluke and I dont blame Zoom I blame lunker city for not improving the sluggo. I think the bigger issue why people are buying more reaction strike lures isnt because they are cheaper its because they are more available. If a company like reaction strike gets it together and makes a quality product and at a reasonable price and gets it out there available in tackle stores everywhere watch out. They may not make great baits but they can market look at the pros using reaction strike lures (J.Quinn in Bass Pros, S.Kennedy and Rombanis at Amistad, ect.) I havent used reaction strike lures except for 1 for muskie but they are making a push to be a big player. Fact is if you make a quality product, market it smart, make it available, and have competitive prices you will be fine. I would be more worried about spro they are expanding their swimbait line, copies or not I cant say for sure but they are priced good, are going to be in tacklestores everywhere, and are advertised as well as any swimbait. I love mattlures but I have only seen 1 store that sell them in the 20 or so tacklestores I have been in. I buy the mattlures bluegill but most weekend fisherman in KY dont know the difference, dont use the internet to buy lures, and dont care. If they see a copy at the local store I promise they will buy it instead because its just there. Most people myself included prefer to see something before we buy it. My guess is the established swimbait companies will be fine but they will lose buisness as other big companies make more swimbaits. But west coast companies that expand and get their product out more and market will grow as well. Castaic is a prime example. Personally I want the best product I can afford and if that product can be bought locally all the better.

are worms and jigs enough or do i need a lot of other lures
You can get by but do you want to catch as many fish as possible or not? Sometimes you get more reaction strikes with faster lures than you can with worms. If you dont need search lures then you wont need many other lures but you should get a few spinnerbaits, crankbaits, a couple topwater lures.

B.A.S.S. University
Now some of the pros do their own courses. I know Paul Elias and Rick Clunn do. Rick Clunns is high like $600. P.Elias does his individually on a 700 acre lake full of bass. ONE PERSON ONE DAY - $600.00 ONE PERSON TWO DAYS - $1,000.00 TWO PERSONS ONE DAY - $900.00 TWO PERSONS TWO DAYS - $1,600.00 A little out of my price range. I dont think theres anything like Bass U out there. Your best bet is to hire a guide. Many are touring pros.

Spro 4"BBZ-1 Swimbait
They look great but I dont see myself buying one. I think will wait and get a TruTungsten 4in. They have the removable balls so you get two weights for the price of one. And they have an extra hook in the back and the one negative thing I have heard is alot fish slap at the bait and dont get hooked. It looks like the baits are similar in the videos I have seen so I dont think I need to buy both. I do like the colors on the BBZ shad more but not that much.
