Thoughts on Womens WBT-and first woman in Classic
After looking at the field and the fact that Denny Brauer didnt make the classic I kind of have mixed feelings. :-/ The WBT is the easiest way to make the classic by far. There is some good competition but not alot. I dont care if thats what it takes to get the WBT going put the WBT AOY in the Classic fine. But lets be honest its an attempt to promote fishing to women but first a chance for ESPN to make more money. And I am very happy for the woman who made it I am sure she worked hard. It wasnt her fault they didnt have a full field all year and the same anglers fishing every tournament she just played the cards she was dealt. But its like the WNBA espn pushes it to try and be successful but really its not that popular. Be honest guys do you respect the opinions and advice of the women on the WBT like you do the guys on the elite series? I dont honestly. If a woman fished the BASS Opens (which they can) and were successful (which they have been) I would have alot more respect. I am not sure what to think about the WBT but I think women should either fish with the guys or not. And I dont see any reason they shouldnt be able too. If I ever have a daughter I would want her to fish against the guys and beat them. I know the pros dont have alot of respect for their knowledge honestly. They respect them as fisherman but when I was at Guntersville a couple years ago many of the pros were there for the Elite series event there the week earlier and they were helping the women get on fish. Could you imagine the women doing that for the men. You arent even allowed to share info in the elite series. I am not sure how I feel but I think in a way the WBT is kind telling women they cant compete with the guys and I hope the woman in the Classic finishes well so it wont look that way. But I heard a pro talking on Bassmasters and he said that none of the guys wanted to be the one who got beat by the woman. Ouch :-[ I think it would have been better if they put the top 5 women in one of the championships with the guys and let them qualify that way. just my 2 cents

Fishing lake kerr in mid-april?
Keep in mind there is always a chance that the water level could be changing and make conditions difficult. Especially if its dropping. The good part is you can go fish Gaston instead if the bite on Kerr is off.

Hollow belly swimbaits
Dont use a standard wide gap get a hook that screws into the head of the bait. It will save you alot money and the hookups are just as good. Also dont throw your baits away glue them and rotate as they tear up.

Anyone who fishes Guntersville
Anybody want to share info I just want to kill some time. I catch fish there but I am always on the lookout for new spots to try. I know how to mark spots on a map and exchange without getting up from your computer.

Musky 1/ Swimbait 0
I know I caught several out of Cave Run. I always catch a muskie when I fish a tournament on cave run.

Strike King customer service
I have 2 strike king swimbaits valued at $50 total that broke at the joint on me. :'( I am going to try and send them back. If they dont get replaced I wont be buying anymore strike king swimbaits thats for sure. Both broke in less than an hour of fishing for no reason. But I heard they made the joints stronger. I hope.

Have you ever had a run in with a Anti-Fishermen
I think PETA has fishing on down their list of priorities these days. I glanced at their website and they are much more worried about Kentucky fried chicken, Michael Vick, and veil. Fact is I think its a battle they know they cant win. Actually my wife has prevented more fishing than PETA and we have only been married 4 years. :'(

How to ask for permission to fish?
This is part of the reason places get shut down! I disagree 100%. Places get shut down because people trash them & take every thing they catch. If someone fishes & takes care of the places they fish & those places get shut down, then the owners are just butt holes. Yeah with a company it might be about insurance but mostly its about leaving trash. I deal with the same thing with creek access where I live. In reality I can remember a class in college where we talked about tresspassing laws and the fact is not much will come of it if you do trespass. 99% chance you will get run off and thats it. No one really cares enough to take it to court. I would be more worried about getting shot by a crazy landowner I know some who have shot at people on their property which is illegal also. My honest opinion if you want to fish it long term you better ask first because if you get caught there without permission your done. If you just want to try it and dont care then go for it assuming the owner isnt someone who will shoot you. Oh yeah off limits public property is different you might get a ticket. But usually the places you cant fish are better in your own mind than they are in reality.

does a g loomis dropshot rod have to be used for just dropshotting?
Yes it HAS to be used for dropshotting otherwise it will explode. You can throw anything it will handle and get good hooksets obviously. UL crankbaits to other finesse rigs.

Okuma products???
From what I hear they shine at making swimbait rods. Thats what they excel at.

Risto rap
They were like the rapala wide wobbling crankbaits to complement the shad rap. Better workhorse deep divers. But the DT series is similar and pretty much replaced them. But they still work.

Quality of Quantum Customer service
I was kinda worried they might be a faceless corporation but I feel better now. Thanks ;D

Quality of Quantum Customer service
Anybody had any experiance with the customer service at quantum? I just got a new Tour edition rod that has a lifetime warranty and was curious how they are about replacing broken rods. The rods fine but I wonder how they stack up to Loomis.

Lure Craze Hatred
The best way to decide if a lure is contender or pretender is ask yourself... Does it provide an advantage over a bait I have? Are there situations where it might shine? Will I fish situations where I need it? For example a swimbait draws big fish maybe better than any other bait in the right situations. But if you only fish the bayou and it stays muddy and is shallow and full of snags do you need one? A dropshot is a great finesse bait that catches lots of fish that are mostly smaller. But if you fish weedy lakes with 15in size limits do you need a light dropshot setup? All baits have limitations and you need to ask yourself will it help me catch more fish at times. Just because you dont need it doesnt mean someone else wont love it. Personally if I cant think of a time or place I fish where I think a bait might really stand out I dont buy it. For example I got a couple trout swimbaits for this lake I fish that is very clear and full of rainbows and big bass. I bought a small swimming jig for fishing smallmouth rivers and now its a favorite of mine for river smallies. Just think before you buy and you might find some great baits.

Rat-L-Trap Type Baits
I have noticed some Rattle traps dont run the same. I dont know that it makes a difference or what but the proven ones always seem to work better. The more you use one the better it gets I heard once on theroy I read from a pro was supposed to be because a powder filled the rattle chamber over time. I dont know for sure but I think the premium baits are more consistent for me. Also some brands work better burned, ripped or slow rolled so that may be why you prefer certain types.

Biggest knockoff in lure history-of the Spro BBZ-1
Yeah but the Dingo and BBZ-1 are alot more similar. They even have the same lateral line.

Do You remember Bill Dance's Craw Crank Bait?
Horsecrap. I have had the pleasure to meet and speak with Mr. Dance and will not allow someone to attack him like that. The man has done more than almost anyone to popularize fishing and catch and release. He is a member of the IGFA Hall of Fame. The man is paid to advertise and sell fishing tackle. I'm sorry that's too much for your "fishing integrity" to handle. It is not an "attack" on him. Hes just getting paid. Alot of my favorite bands sold out and I still like them. I am sure he is a nice guy but face the facts. His shows arent about learning anymore they are about him fishing a stocked pond full of big dumb bass (no offense to him I will be fishing there as well if I could) and selling a new lure every week. Some of his lures would get you laughed out of the bass club. His shows arent fishing shows they are half hour infomercials. And thats OK I would do the same thing for that kind of cash. Yeah hes an alltime great fisherman no doubt. Other than being a Tennessee fan I am sure hes a great guy. Many of the lures he sells are low quality baits. I know I used to buy them all. Most last a year or less and never are heard from again. But he basically sells every strike king or Booyah product so he sells some good ones as well. I may have been harsh about 1in5 he sells are junk but no self respecting pro would sell something they dont believe in. Maybe Bill just gets caught up in the hype and thinks this might work like some of us. But my guess is he would try and sell anything and say it is a great lure and you need to get one. But I dont hold against him I just wont buy anything because he says its good.

Dumb Purchases
I didnt buy it but my I got a $10 motolure for christmas. Its a topwater chugger that you pull the string on the front when you cast and it shakes when it hits the water. I guess grandma thought if Chuck Woolery said it was good it had to be. She bought 2 my cousin got one in a different color. http://www.motolure.com/motochug.php I still have it and its very funny to me.

Biggest knockoff in lure history-of the Spro BBZ-1
The Dingo looks dead on a Spro BBZ-1. Unless you count the yellow fin and the fact that it is listed at 8.5in. I love the fact that they even have the same LATERAL LINE. Maybe they are junk but I heard some good things on some other forums. And the price is hard to believe at $15. Dont get me wrong the hooks and components may not be great but even if you need to replace them its still a great deal. I havent tried these (or the BBZ-1, next on my list, maybe after 1 more Mattlures hardgill). But the seller talks a good game about not spending money on advertising and packaging. Who knows... http://www.tackleindustries.com/swimbaitbassbait.html heres a video of the lure here is a video of the BBZ-1 http://www.***.com/videos/S ... ode=SPBBZS if do decide to advertise I could see the commercial as being something like a Fosters commercial.. Dingo....Australian for BBZ-1 ;D

Do You remember Bill Dance's Craw Crank Bait?
To me Bill Dance has lost all credibility. He sell more junk than anybody around. Yeah his baits catch fish but not as well as other lures. For every good one he sells there are 3 bad ones. If there has a bigger sellout in the history of bass fishing I cant name him. (Roland Matin tried with the helicopter lure)

Anyone tried this JIG?
Its all about hookups and getting thru cover better. They dont work as well as a standard jig getting through rocks and grass. But they wont roll over when coming through wood and dont hang up as much around any wood cover. They have one application where they help you fishing wood. If you fish alot of wood and could use something that doesnt hang up as much then maybe they are worth a try. But really the price is crazy for a jig.

My humble opinion on how the world record came from Georgia
I firmly believe the reason the world record came from Georgia when no bass near that size have came since is related to climate change. I think to max out the growth of Largemouth bass you need the right climate pattern. The growing seasons play a role on how big bass will get, the same as it does in all wildlife. I think that with the longer growing seasons as the climate has warmed the fish grow more year round but also reach the point where they stop growing faster. I read stories of settlers catching 20pd bass from Florida. Case in pt the only Florida bass ever caught over 20 was in 1923. I think that the climate in California is better to give fish long lives but also the perfect length growing seasons. Forage and habitat are also key but I think climate change is the main reason you wont likely see any 20lb fish from Florida anytime soon.
