  1. Are there gators in it? I might try my tube in it if its legal.
  2. Kathryn Hanna Abby is the park by Mayport. They have boat rentals but they are only kayaks and paddleboats and they are expensive. I would use my float tube but I dont know if its allowed and I am a little worried about gators. :-/ Just curious how well could you fish the park lake from the shore. I also hear the UNF campus has some ponds with decent fishing that sounds like the best option so far.
  3. It depends on the topwater bite. I fish Guntersville and I know frogs and buzzbaits account for big fish there. If your on a buzzbait bite you can catch some big fish. On the other hand if your on a popper bite and catching small fish in pockets then it may not be. Just figure out the quality of fish you think you will need and see if the fish your catching will accomplish the task.
  4. Fish early and late in the day. With small ponds the fish really seem to focus feeding around low light conditions. Most of the time in the warmer months I wont even fish ponds until the last 2 hours of daylight or the first 4 hours in the morning. You may also want to try night fishing.
  5. Wonder if he is related to Cal Naughton Jr. AKA the magic man. ;D AKA Mike Hancho
  6. The durability has me worried. I get a pack eventually but I dont know if the cost will be worth keeping them stocked in my arsenal. If they were big fish baits it would be one thing but magic swimmers catch all sizes of bass. :-/
  7. Just buy what you need. Dont worry about if you buy it later
  8. Women are capable of being just as good as men there just arent as many out there bass fishing. There arent many black or mexican pro anglers either that doesnt mean they cant fish. There are several japanese pros at the pro level. Why? because their dream was to fish at the pro level, if more girls dreamed of fishing at the pro level you would see more. For a female angler to get great she needs to compete at the highest possible level to start with thats the elite series. In the past I could see how sexist men could have discouraged women from competing but I cant see anyone trying that these days.
  9. They can work anytime its just a question if something else will work better. I think the shallower the water the colder they will hit topwater. When the water temps get in the 60s in spring is an OK guideline in fall they will hit topwater much colder. But if fish are shallow I will throw topwater in 55 degree water in spring. Especially if I see baitfish activity on top.
  10. I think that if women want to really be treated as equals on the water by the guys who dont see them as such then women will have to fish and do well at the elite series level. There were alot of good things about the WBT but many people were not going to see female pros at the same level as the men if they were fishing the WBT. To me its similar to the ***** leagues in baseball. The players were not respected by many until Jackie Robinson came in and did well against the white players. The downside is after a while the ***** league was disbanned that meant many of the less expectional black players were not able to play at the professional level anymore. But hopefully many of the better female anglers can continue to fish professionally. Sounds similar to the WBT to me, hopefully you gals have a Jackie Robinson type who qualifies for the elite series and makes some noise and gets you respect from those who dont respect you now. And for the record I cant stand getting beat by a woman in a tournament. But its nothing against the ladies I cant stand getting beat by another guy either.
  11. The craw has a better swimming action and puts out more vibration. The sweet beaver is similar to a tube if you ask its strength is the way it glides thru the water. I would use the craw in swimming presentations and when I am fishing muddy water. Some days I wouldnt expect a huge difference in which gets bit better but I would try both when possible.
  12. Whats really crazy is I could have given you a discount code for *** and saved you $100. :'(
  13. I carry my plano boxes in 2 tackle bags. I also have random packs of soft plastics. Here are my boxes -structure fishing box-big spoons, bottom bouncing swimbaits, football jigs, ect. -shallow crankbait box-baits that dive 5ft or less -medium crankbait box-baits that dive 5-10ft -deep divers-10ft + -standard texas rig box-worms and lizards -flippin plastics box-various creature baits, big tubes ect. -falcon spinnerbait box -falcon spinnerbait/buzzbait box-contains small spinnerbaits and buzzbaits -falcon terminal tackle box -Big swimbait box-for big swimbaits over 3oz -medium swimbait box-for swimbaits 1-3oz -small swimbait box-swimbaits I can throw on standard tackle -finesse box-small worms, craws, tubes, ect -jig box-one side flipping jigs one side casting jigs -suspending jerkbait box -a small floating jerkbait box -topwater box -small frog box -chatterbait box -fluke, floating worm, senko box -creekbox-really small plastics for fishing creeks -a small swimming jig box And I keep extra baits that wont fit in these boxes in extra tackleboxes and on a peg board. The ones I add and subtract alot stay on the peg board.
  14. Yes thats crazy. I buy plenty of high dollar baits jackall, lucky craft, swimbaits, ect. But I just havent seen the results on deep diving premium baits to justify buying them yet. I hear about some pros using them but I think your just as well off with normans, strike king, fat free shads, rapalas and maybe a few wooden baits. For jerkbaits, shallow cranks and topwater you see alot more premium baits used but with deep cranks I just dont think you need premium baits. The best deep crankbait fisherman on the pro tours do fine with cheaper american baits. When you pay 3 times as much for a bait that just means it cost 3 times as much to make it and ship it not that it is 3 times as good. I kinda get a felling you are buying expensive baits you never used just because they are expensive. But thats just me. But I dont see a problem spending that much on baits even though I dont agree with your choices. People blow money on stupid worthless stuff they have no chance of ever using all the time. At least the baits might have some use.
  15. There is alot more to quality gear than catching fish. Rods-When you pay more for rods you get several things. Sensitivity-even cheap rods are pretty sensitive these days but occasionally you will feel a fish you wouldnt on a cheaper rod especially when the bite is off. weight-more expensive rods are lighter and better balanced, it plays into being more sensitive as some but its mostly a comfort deal and you can tell the difference when you fish several long days in a row. Warranty-most quality rods have lifetime warranties fewer cheaper rods do, I have bad luck breaking rods so I dont buy one anymore without a warranty. Reels-Pretty much all reels wear down. The difference cheap reels wear down quicker. And you can cast alot better with quality baitcasting reels. With spinning reels I get by fine with cheaper ones not cheap but cheaper. Lures-cost is a direct correlation with the money it costs to build a bait. If a bait is really good you gotta pay to use it. Simple as that. Plenty of crankbaits under $5 catch fish but they are not as consistent and your more likely to get a lemon with cheaper baits. And more expensive baits tend to cast better due to internal weights which is a nice bonus. And they have quality hooks and hardware out of the box that wont rust in 1 year. And I dont mind paying for some quality baits because I want what little time I have to spend on the water to be as good as possible. Quality hard baits also last longer usually if they arent wooden. As far as soft plastics I wont pay more than whan yamamoto baits cost unless they are swimbaits which last longer and catch real quality fish. Can you catch fish on cheap stuff. Heck yeah. But I plan on fishing a long time and quality stuff lasts longer in my experiance.
  16. I cant pick an exact rod for you because I dont know what size baits you throw but I love the Loomis cranking rods. There are alot of good crankbait rods out there but I go with Loomis because of the warranty and I can get them replaced at local tackle shops. My second choice would be shimano and if your on a budget the Bass pro crankin stick is good for the money if you dont mind the power hump.
  17. Ditto on the jointed shad raps. Great cold water and murky water bait you get strong vibration at slow speeds with the joined ones.
  18. My top five 1. Brians baits 2. Dbaits 3. Lazer lures-not the new red light ones 4. Buckeye Lures 5. WEC baits I love the DBaits I mostly use the original it fits my area great. Lazer lures are close I just havent used them as long. The others all make great baits as well. So what are your favorites?
  19. Sounds well worth it. I may pick one up.
  20. I have been using chatterbaits for years. The bait is more versatile than most people think. Most haves one or two situations where they use chatterbaits and thats it so they only fish it one way. Its not rocket science its just like spinnerbait principles. In murky water go slower and in clear water go faster. Same patterns for spinnerbaits work slow rolling in deep grass, burning over thick shallow grass, ect.
  21. I am no metal expert but I could tell you any metal that doesnt bend, and they claim the hooks wont, will break. Every hook I have ever broken has been one that did not bend any usually treble hooks. I would prefer a hook that would flex a little over breaking.
  22. mrbassky replied to Thad's topic in Fishing Tackle
If you got to read the article on waking in FLW magazine you would see the guys featured said they prefered the older ones but the new ones worked fine as well as long as they are chrome. Sounds more like a confidence thing to me. I would like to have an old one but I wouldnt sweat it too much.
  23. When it is really calm, clear and or bright. They will hit the puppy sometimes when they wont commit to the bigger versions. And also if your fishing a lake with a 12in limit and its a tournament you better hookups with smaller fish. Downside is wont draw fish as far as the bigger ones.
  24. #7 is a good finesse crankbait #8 is the best all around #9 is for the deeper stuff Thats how it works for me anyways
