  1. Glad to hear you got out with your dad but I'm sure he let you win,....it's what dad's do! You're his little piglet
  2. Oh yea, NICE FISH and that's my point. Those are the fish you catch in the fall,....big ones!!
  3. BF- I told you I would track the top 5. Your PM let me know that wasn't good enough. It also let me know that you really aren't the friend you pretended to be so sure,...bring your wallet. BA12- sorry about that buddy, it's gonna be few days.
  4. Nice upgrade, do you guys ski also?
  5. Friend of ours that lives on the lake we fished, "navy sealed" us one dark evening with the scuba gear. I thought it was over,...this was payback I was thinking, somthing HUGE was under boat!!! Oh man, had to be there, we were like 2 freaked out little girls.
  6. ok,...that explains it,lol. BF- Fishing as competition is work. I'm going on vacation. If you'd like, I can keep a good idea of what my top 5 are for you to have somthing to compare yourself too. Personally, I got nothin' to prove to anyone but myself. And all I plan on proving is that I can smile for 5 days straight. On a sidenote, I will say this. Anyone who as ever won anything on the water just grinned when they read what you wrote. More traps have been shut and shut good on the water than you can shake a stick at. I think it's called getting "muzzled" Careful wielding that sword and wallet unless you have the money to play, I'm sure someone else will take you up on a wager.
  7. I hear you, the 4000 is perfect for inshore. It will do fine for shiner fishing, especially as you say, you don't do it much. Better to have more power than not enough. Make sure to lighten the line to have some fun with 'em, but it will be fine.
  8. Thanks Matt. That's not just for deceased is it?
  9. I fished the canal twice but both times I was a passanger along with a well experienced Captain. The canal is no joke when trying to work lines and a boat in that current. Stripers should still be there too. They are still down in the southern counties of RI. I wish I could help more, I know I sure would like to see more participation from folks on the Cape. That's one strip of land that is PACKED with anglers of all sorts.
  10. As for reels, 4000 is rather large , at least for the fish we have here. It will work, but do you have any other smaller spinning reels?
  11. I wanted to save this till the video was ready but it looks like i won't have time to build it till the weekend, and even then, I'm going to be very busy. Aaaaaaanyway,..... Sunday, Eric and I got out again. With all the "shiner" talk on the board and water that has now gone below the golden 50 degree mark, we decided to throw some live ones at them this weekend. It's been a few years since either of us went shiner fishing and boy were we in for a treat! We hit 11 fish over 4 lbs, countless 2 and 3 lbrs and personal PB's for the day of Eric- 7.2 lbs Me- 6.9 lbs Another 5 fish were also caught on jigs. A limit,....on jigs,...in 49 degree water. We were pumped. Aside from the bag from heaven, we had one of those days where you just laugh all day. Fishing shiners, with no pressure, really brought back the old school feeling of comeraderie on the water. Brought us right back to the first time I brought him there 17 yrs ago, the yr we met. Great times, Fall video coming, will post ASAP.
  12. Any military folk that could help me out here? Which office/dept would I contact? Any suggestions of particular groups to target? Thanks in advance. MUDDY- Look who's talking, once you guys get a date nailed for your event, you're gonna be like the Tazmanian Devil, I can already tell!
  13. we are using Med power rods but a MH will work fine also. I have 12 lb on and my buddy has 10 so anything in that range is fine also. We were having fish bury in the grass, the MH would have probably helped there a little better actually. I'm not really an equipment junkie however. I pick up a rod and start using it without too much forthought of the power or action. When it comes to jigging, that's different, gotta be stiff but otherwise, I pretty much go with the flow. Roadwarrior can give you a list of preffered set-ups in fine detail if you ask him. If looking to get a set up just for this, also include the $ range or he'll have you mortgaging the house! Oh yea, hooks were a 1/0 gammie octopus. Then yesterday, I used kahle hooks which worked fine also. Kahle hooks are made specifically for shiner fishing. Also, I live line my shiners, no matter how I rig 'em. No float, bobber, swivel etc.
  14. Andy, Got any pics yet? Post some asap, so we can also help. Lots of good knowledge on the board from troubleshooting motors to glass work.
  15. BUT THERE"S NO ICE!! DON'T GIVE UP YET!!!! I'm a UPS driver and we are in our "xmas peak" mode as of yesterday. To quote a man of men,....... If I can,...YOU can -Clay Dyer
  16. Way to go guys, who knows what would have happened if Randall hadn't lost the biggun'. That's fishin'! You're both in 1st place as far as I'm concerned. Just the fact that DH is still here fishing with us after that heavy machinary incident. Randall, you've had a tough year in other ways and the fact that you have pushed on and found a way to cope is fantastic. Forget the trophies and the ribbons. You're both huge winners here.
  17. This Friday, Jim Owens, President of CAST for Kids , is flying to RI to spend the weekend. We've never had any time to actually meet each other Jim also needs to go over a few things before I formally take the Northeast Director job with CAST. I called Jim the other day and we spoke about widening the CAST realm to saltwater. Jim did a saltwater event this yr that was a success and I, as always, have a few tricks up my sleeve as well. I have a gentleman in RI who is building a guide refferal site. We have 9 salt water guides in RI who are going to be a part of this refferal site. The site will have a graph type chart that would look like this Capt Russ 42 post stripers, bluefish, scup 1-8 people Capt Glenn 28 rampage stripers, tuna 1-4 people the chart will give the basics. Now the catch. Some of these captains will be taking CAST kids out for saltwater fishing. The graph above also has more columns. At the head of one is the CAST logo and the words "CAST Capt" This would mean they are "handicapped trained" captains. They will recieve a checkmark under the "CAST CAPT" column. A small amount of the proceeds will be donated to CAST from these captains charters also. It's a nice trade, the Captains get to use the CAST logo to advertise themselves as CAST Captains and the kids get to go saltwater fishing and the program will recieve a small monetary donation from the proceeds of the CAST Captain charters. A win/win/win situation. Saltwater CAST comes to RI Also, this is an idea I havn't brought out yet as I need a little help with contacts. Next spring, if we still have soldiers overseas, I would like to do a military CAST for Kids event aimed at military kids who's dads have been away. I think this could be a good thing for a number of obvious reasons. If anyone knows which dept of the military I could contact, I need to know the names of RI/Mass soldiers that have kids between 5 and 16.
  18. Are you anti-live bait? Many anglers, even the die hard ones, often give live bait a try this time of year. We went out yesterday to make a video. "Shiner fishing" has been an active topic on the board so we spent the last 2 days taking footage of how to rig, how to play the bait, etc. Give 'em a try if they aren't a "no-no" to you personally. Just for the record, there are 2 ,..7 lb fish coming in the next video. If the fishing has slowed to a trickle, I highly recommend a day of shiner fishing to turn those fall/winter frowns into some ear to ear smiles.
  19. This is a great time of year to get your foot in the door at UPS. Go HERE for job opportunities. Somthing to keep in mind is that even with the part-time jobs, your family is covered under your full bennies. Yup, even at part time. Many of these 4 hr shofts also allow you to work elsewhere but provide a solid base and bennies for now. Good luck!
  20. Yessir. Sorry. Ok,.no video coming....
  21. I often wondered where, when and why a kahle hook would be used, I'll have to try them... 1/0, 2/0 ok for 4 inch shiners?
  22. I think it's simply a matter of demographics. If SM were as plentiful, in as many areas, as LM are, surely this poll would read differently.
