TURTLES
Not at all fishbear, clarification makes a huge difference. I certainly wouldn't class you in the genre I was speaking about. Common sense would prevail here and tell us, however, that there is probably much less chance of getting bit avoiding the snake than attempting to kill it.

Having a steady partner
Had the fish tied to the boat and it was nowhere ready to be landed yet. Did some rib damage. Learned that a tuna hass to be tired out first but not too much or you risk "burning" the meat.

TURTLES
Sport? Are you that challenged? If you are having trouble, maybe start with somthing sleeping and move up to somthing as quick and wiley as a turtle.

Having a steady partner
If you watch some of the accomplished "teams" fish, there are no words. When it comes to Tuna fishing, my first mate back in the day, Capt. kevin D. , and I didn't have to use words. We would just flow. The one time we weren't in synch, we had a fire drill on deck. Things were hectic and we had a hot fish tail wrapped far too soon for a boat that small. This created a dangerous situation. we learned alot together that day and were that meuch better together from then on once we realized the importance of working together.

Will Cali Get-R-Done in 2007?
I'd go $20 for Cali myself. Another $10 on FishChris because I always support my home team. Another thought is this. Cali has a growing group that strictly hunt for this fish. The swimbait battallion let's say. I wonder how many people in Cuba hunt this fish like the Cali's do? Not sarcasm, I really would like to know what the fishing scene is doing over there as far as the hunt for the WR fish goes. Do they even know they are a contender? I'm uneducated on this one.

TURTLES
no scripture please. Greenpeace? No,...College educated? Yes If you want to hunt or fish a meal, that's your right. We are talking about people who kill snakes, turtles, etc because they are either afraid of them or because they claim they hurt the fish ratio in a given body of water. Both reason don't fly with me. If you fit in either of the above categories, in my book you need to: A. Be a man, it's a snake and it's not after you or B. Buy yourself an education before spurting nonsense. or BOTH Lastly, this is a youth friendly forum. We don't encourage acts of violence on innocent animals. Call it greenpeace, call me whatever you want, just be sure to include the word educated . We are here to show kids the right way to view things, to respect things,...We are here to lead by example. Baitmonkey12, you're a scary example but one we need nontheless to prove our point. Your posts on this topic do it for us. Ignorance suks. ( we sit and wonder how the world became a place where groups of kids beat up homeless people for fun. Still mystified? Ignorance starts at home.)

Having a steady partner
Many of us have a steady fishing partner. Many of you know my best friend, Dirk_Jig-Lure (Eric). I found that fishing with Eric over the years, we have developed a strong "team" presence. Our natural styles could not be more different. This makes for a very complimentary team. When we fished the clear water challenge in '03 and '04, we did very well, based on this team dynamic. Eric was always the guy going for that 1 fish. A "FishChris" of the east if you will. I, on the other hand, was the master of getting high numbers of smaller fish. So this is how we often attack any tourny we fished. I would be trying to get the 5 and he would go for the kicker. As soon as there are 5 in the boat, I switch to kicker fishing also. Now, sometimes, opposite results would occur and we would modify or adapt as neccessary. I learned alot from Eric, and can adapt to his style easily enough. He had mastered my styles, years before when I was out playing saltwater guy. In short, just noticing, that as a team, we are very capable. I'm watching the redfish tourny on TV and it got me to wondering. It seems many of these folks are attacking their challenge as 2 seperate anglers,..not as a "team". (Aside from the netting part) To me, a teammate is more than a net guy. The two of you should function as a well oiled machine on deck of course but there should also be a gameplan that utilizes every tool you have between the both of you to achieve a team result that is positive. Anyone else have a steady partner that they attack the lake with? Not just a person to go with each time, but a teammate?

Run-In With Pitbull Today
I deal with dogs on a daily basis. Been bitten 7 times in 9 yrs. Chow Akita Pits Shepherds These 4 breeds can be very stealthy at being "read". They give you false signs, unreadable. Very good at letting you in before they attack. Rotts Dobies These 2 are better at letting you know their intentions. Any dog will bite you. People don't realize this. If I had a dollar for every mailman/ups/fedex driver that was bitten by a dog who's owner JUST said "oh it's ok,...he doesn't bite" 4 of the dogs that bit me,....don't bite. People don't realize that dogs will protect their home and family. One dog that bit me, I'd known for years. Played with it often on many deliveries. The time he bit me, I didn't know, but the kids were playing in the backyard. WHOLE NEW DOG in front of me now. I have learned it is better not to trust any of them. Don't get me wrong,...I LOVE DOGS. but 90% can be unpredictable but some are much more unpredictabvle and much more capable of doing some real damage. Couple piecees of advice when dealing with dogs. Talk in a stern voice Never turn your back!!! Ease away walking backwards. Take off sunglasses, make eye contact NEVER hit a non-attacking dog. Striking the animal is a last DEFENSE, otherwise you could very well trigger an attack that could be avoided. DO NOT RUN!! Know that a dog who will be friendly for a treat will also take achunk of your calf immediately after. Know the warning signs. Tight growl, slow moving body motions, head lowered, hair on back is up along with tail. Do not underestimate these signs. This dog is clearly announcing it's intentions and that trigger in his head is a "lightswitch" one. Always look for dog sign when approaching a home or business you don't know. (Poop, dog toys, leash or bowl on porch, etc.) USE YOUR HEAD! Pink did a good job here, no remote is worth a serious encounter with a dog, even a small one. Especially a known violence prone breed. Respecrt all animals and their surroundings. Remember, a dog can bite you, and yes, that hurts for a small time but some dogs are very capable of KILLING you. Be careful, keep your distance when possible.

Shiner Fishing Help
I fish a shiner a few different ways. If larger and very active, I like to hook it just behind the dorsal fin. This allows the fish to skitter on top. The "DeathDance". Funnest way to fish them, topwater hit. Secondly. Hook in one nostril and out the other. Cast softly and freeline it. Also a great way to pick up extra fish is to rig dead shiners through bottom lip and then top lip and let out waaaay behind boat and let it drag as you drift and cast another rod. For both I use a gammy 1/0 Octopus hook. 1/0 Octopus circle's work well too but circle hook techniques need apply. No split shot in my rigs, just a hook and bait.

Will Cali Get-R-Done in 2007?
LM- 10.6 SM 5.15 (1977) So few SM left in the state, it doesn't even matter

So much for my Aunts pond
Shorten your trailers and sharpen the hooks on those jigs. You should never miss that many fish with a jig. It's a rare case that they don't inhale it. Jigs are one of the best "hook up:hit" ratio baits out there. Check your stuff. Also, be sure to use nothing less than a MH rod. Just my .02

Hypothetical question for FishChris
Let's say it was in the cards for you to join us at Fork,....would you be sticking to your M.O. of "Hawg only" hunting? Or would you view this as a vacation also from your "skunks are just a part of the big fish game" and just fish for fishing sake and catch using "normal" means?

Will people ever learn ???
Cart, you're full of it!! LOL If you hit a 16 lb fish this afternoon, I would like to think you would be pumped to get online and show us the pics of your adventure. no?

Lake Fork Questions
3 inches of rain and a major cold front moved in the day before we got there. Very few fish caught all week, Guides also according to T. Redington. That's fishin'.

Will people ever learn ???
Maybe he doesn't have the same kind of personal need to show off what he's caught like you do. Maybe he's quite content with himself in this regard. I've caught quite a few big fish over the years, I used to make a more concerted effort to have a scale and camera around to capture the moment. I've got a couple of those Photo collage frames with quite a few pictures from over the years but the last 10 years it has become less of a need. Heck, sometimes I've had a camera in the boat and never bothered to get it out. That includes my PB a couple years ago of over 8lbs. I know what I've caught. A few skeptics that have come along and fished with me and then seen me catch a large fish right in front of them figured out I wasn't full of BS. I imagine he's quite comfortable with himself in his bass fishing. BTW, I don't see in your post anything about him whining about this fish he caught and not having a camera or scale, I do hear you whining about the fact that he had no scale or camera to Prove to you that he caught it though. That's all fine and good if you fish for your own satisfaction but FC's friend isn't. Whinning that he isn't believed, etc. No camera, no argument. Not worth it. Also--Batteries!!!! as you all know, I have the camera with me always. My biggest fish this summer, I have but one short, dark clip of it. Why? Didn't check the batts and didn't have extras on board. Will never happen again.
