How does a Jig Bite Feel?
I agree with everyone and some great answers but I think for someone asking "what it feels like",..I think Dwhite hit somthing big. All these answers came from guys who "toughed it out". The jig when first approached , can be intimidating but with time, close attention and lots of chucking will give you the confidence that drives all these great answers. Point #1 when taking up jigging is to NOT GIVE UP. In an instance,....1 fish even,...your world can change. That 1 bite sometimes puts all those little things together and nopw you know what to expect what to do what to look for etc. To reiterate on Sam's point, it's not that reeling in a jig won't work, reeling a jig can also be quite productive but that's not what you are looking to do yet(I'm pretty sure this is what Sam means). Reeling in a jig will give you a different feel than the one you wqant to learn first. Learn the jig on the bottom with shaking motions, hopping motions or even deadsticking and then when you are comfortable there, you can learn swimming and dragging a jig,....but those come later. *Key point-90% or so of the bites come on the initial fall uaually when close to the bottom. Good luck and get a good grip on that rod,...you'll need it!

My Dream Boat
I can't believe noone noticed the colors on Glenn's boat!! I guarentee those weren't in the color schemes to choose from! one of a kind? That's what makes a boat special to me is the fact that noone else has the same thing. I also have a whaler jet boat that came with handlebars! We re-modified the entire dash with teak, gauges and a stainless wheel with a trigger throttle on the wheel. Now it's a 15 ft , inboard center console. INBOARD (jet) 15ft center console Anyone else see a boat with these 3 things in common???? original dash enhanced dash The boat came with a 50hp Yamaha that, along with some guidance from the guys at RIVA Motorsports in Pompano Beach, we switched it out for a 201hp wet jet, hehehe Boat comes right out of the water but gives the swim platform a beating as you can see in this pic. I came down to the docks in the morning and noticed this from the day before. (platform sagging) Ain't she purdy though, this boat gets a ton of comments at the dock. I even had one guy argue with me that it wasn't a Whaler, lol. I am very proud of this little bluefish hunting rocket. When I bought the boat, it was totalled. It had a hole in the side, and the entire gunnel was smashed on the left side. Had a hole on the "V" of the bow where somehow, the front hook eye got pushed through. No railing, no rub rail, etc. She was a mess but look at her now!!

sight fishing
They'll hit a cigarette butt and even a spark plug (both proven) if you have the patience. Personally, I don't sight fish anymore. Over the years, I've developed a good size guilt about pressuring these fish during such a crucial time. Next year, the trips will be exploratory. We have an area of our lake that we call the "nursery" because it is such a prime spawning flat. We did some damage in there this year and my last bedding fish spewed egg all over the carpet in my boat and my heart just sank. I can't describe how I felt but needless to say, I'm all done. Fish Chris- no Mattlures bluegill in the arsenal???

Got it thanks

here is my latest lures by kb dont la
I love visiting thios part of the forum, from rods to lures, you guys build some seriously top notch stuff. My buddy has a sweet handmade crankbait that had his family name on it. He displays it like it's art ,....because it IS!! How much would you guys charge me to build a BassResource one and a Low Budget Hookers one?

RW-river question.
I'm not very familiar with river fishing. I can imagine some of it like finding the eddy's and the slough's but I know the rivers you fish are of larger scale than what I am thinking. In a yo-zuri reply, you said... I was wondering when, where or why would this be appropriate. Is it to save gear possibly? Or when you are just plain dead snagged or are there other reasons. Thanks

My Dream Boat
small boats,...big fish. This theory made me alot of money tuna fishing. Most of the vessels on the bank are 36-52 ft sportfishing vessels. We use the 21' cc and it has proven through the yrs to be the way to go. Sept. '01- 6 fish in 7 days (permit allows 1 per day) All week, we were the only boat under 32 ft. 9 fish came to market that week, 5 from us. (100+ boats in fleet) The theory is that each boat has an anchor line scoped out a minimum of 300 ft, and 4 fishing lines. Tuna are pro's at using these to break off. We fish along a bank that comes up to 180 ft. It's like a sandbar in the middle of Cape Cod Bay. When you hook up,...the most important thing to do is get the fish away from the fleet (and all it's obstacles). With a small boat, we are capable of "rounding him up" and the big boats don't have this kind of maneuverability. The minute a rod goes off, we both have a job. I man the helm and start the boat while my mate gets us off the ball. (anchor is unhooked and left on a bouy) the other 3 rods come in (team effort) then he switches to free spool while I punch it and head away from the fleet making a 1/2 circle away from the fleet. Engage the reel again and start fighting. Now you are pulling the fish AWAY from the fleet. Lots of smaller boats out there do this now. Little boats=big fish!!

Should I look into this?
and even a great patent is only enforcable if you have the cash for the lawyers to pursue it. If it truly were a great patent, he would pound the private market to raise funds to produce it, as opposed to being willing to share it with every and any body. I'd steer clear personally.

Good replacement for Gary Yamamoto senkos
As soon as BLACK is on the list!! lol Seriously though, Black has always been considered a staple color by most anglers. It's Pumpkin and watermelons partner. The green, the black and the brown. Naturals. When you did that questionaire about colors, was it multiple choice? I ask because if you asked me that question, I would not answer black because I would assume the "staples" are already covered.

This site
I know of at least 1 board with more members but quality over quantity surely reign in this realm. Many of our members are past members from the other big boards that were not happy with the style , format, and regulations that they were governed by. This is BassResource's niche. The no attack, helpful atmosphere is somthing that had been missing on bass boards since they first came around. Again,..many "local" boards incorporate this same mindset but as for the other biggie national boards,....we stand alone. I would imagine that there are boards out there that may offer more if they are specialized (like for tourny fisherman only, etc) than BR but none have the industry covered from tip to toe as completely as Glenn.

General Bass Information
This bass weighed 3.3 lbs. I know this because we had just released it when the Osprey grabbed it about 10 ft from the boat, scaring the poop out of us. It was probably hovering, waiting for us to release it because since this incident, we have noticed these osprey (1 mating pair at our lake) hovering over boats with fish on. Never thought anything of it before we had this happen. We were relatively close to the nest and it grabbed the bass and went straight for this limb. Smile for the camera!

Sorry Brent,...too selfish to worry about the folks that want junebug/chart..... [move] B L A C K [/move] But that's what you would want too,.....................If you were me RW- Maybe you're throwing the wrong ones?? J/K I've ben fortunate (if you consider migraines fortunate) to have the time this year to quadruple my time on water. I've been fishing a consistent 5 days/ week for 4-8 hrs/day. Funny thing is that I have been throwing a variety of baits this year, trying to break from my Jigging ways. I have also been giving samples away tosome folks I fish with who want to try them. Brent gave me a few extra to pass out as samples. Many people I invite on the water are at beginner/intermediate levels and I like to tell them to leave everything of theirs at home and come learn my way for the day. More baits used again. Money well spent in my book. Still,...not uncommon to blow through 3-5 bags of 10 in one outting when the bite is on and there are two of you. Now if that 2nd person also knows what they are doing.............. I have pillaged Dirks tackle box for years. I told him this year, I'll cover your plastics in a good faith effort to restore his stocks. He never complains. Well, he just ordered his first batch last week and has been using mostly mine this year, I would say maybe 1/2 the time, he has used mine so there is reason why that number is so high but regardless of why, If I had to buy all that bait at $7 for 10,...I would'nt have the money for gas to get to the lake!

General Bass Information
What I meant to imply was that just because there may be turtles or pike or somthing that can eat a bass,...Don't just kill or remove it for that reason, a balance is in place.

General Bass Information
Great answers mikey. Just a couple things to add. #4- they have predators such as heron, osprey, turtle, pickerel, pike muskie, etc. NOTE_ If the pond is healthy and does not have an overabundance of 1 specie, DO NOTHING! Balance is everything in a lake and the bass is not the top of the food chain. He's high on the list but not the top. This is natures way,...let it be. #5 If you think there is an issue, do not take matters into your own hands, contact DNR first and they will advise you on your best solution or may take over the situation themselves. #6 a red colored boat does not scare them away. It does however make them dig a little harder when they get close enough to see it. #7- He is just like you. When you lift him from the water, start holding your breath. When you are gasping, so is he

Good replacement for Gary Yamamoto senkos
Last week I used 11 bags of 10. At a savings of roughly $.50/worm, that's over $50. With $200, I can get a decent set up. Hopefully I won't be old and grey by the middle of August. You are entitled to your opinion but the term "best" is relevant. I am catching the largest size class fish in the lake and as many as I did back when GYCB's was the only game in town. The savings last month gave me the combined pleasure of breaking my PB for the year twice in 2 weeks and a new 55lb Minn Kota. That's not an opinion. That's a fact. Bud- GYCB's work great, no doubt. My point is so do many others. Not all but many.

Skimp? That's the point. When you're catch ratio either stays the same or increases but it costs less, I see it as a value, not a skimp. And yes, I like nice reels and rods too and since switching, I can afford more set-ups. Time will tell

best size tm battery for canoe/jon boat
I just wouldn't spend that much money just to avoid lifting a battery off of the floor of the truck and the motor from the rear seat or from in the canoe. Where I launch, it's about 15 ft of rock and somewhat steep. Both batts and both motors come off to lessen the weight when I take it out and I'm alone. When it goes in, the batts are out but the motors are fine as it is downhill. I also have rollers I built so it moves nicely) Carrying the batts the 15 ft and putting in the boat once it's loaded really isn't so bad. I actually found it easier with 2 batts. Lifting both at once balances you and makes the walk much easier. Just some input from my travels. Just trying to help out. By all means, you deserve to set it up whichever way best suits you, as long as you get to posting some pics soon!!

If you caught a new state record ..........
Agreed. Everyone I would tell already fishes there with me. Telling fish/game would be the same as telling the local news. Nooo thank you. Seriously? I mean,..that thing is worth potential money if you handle it right. I'm willing to give up the cash to keep my place from getting invaded. To not submit it because it's a "Hassle"???? That's crazy.

best size tm battery for canoe/jon boat
I don't understand where a battery comes into whether or not you get a trailer. You wouldn't launch a loaded canoe from the trailer. The battery and motor don't stay attached, you load and unload them just like your tackle and rods (hence the release clips for the wire).
