Am I a bad Angler?
I think in an effort to be nice (a BR trait) many folks aren't giving you the whole story. There are times of year when 30-100 fish is quite normal. They are usually a mix of sizes but primarily smaller fish Did Y'all forget this years post spawn? Or ANY postspwn? lol The fact of the matter is that there are seasonal high points that can produce 1-3 weeks of this kind of fishing and then it changes again. Yesterday I caught 6. Not 30. But 2 1/2 months ago was a different story. There are also those banner days that can pop up anytime,...usually when the conditions say you shouldn't be catching squat, you'll go bang 25 or 30. Watch Kelly Jordans Classic patterns video. He hits like 20 fish in the 4-8 lb range. Cast after cast after cast. Who knows how many fish he could have pulled off that bridge, depends on how much time you have to spend there I guess. Also keep in mind that many folks here fish an excess of 100+ days/yr. For the person that goes 1 day/weekend, 3 months a yr,..the odds are alot lower that you'll walk into one of these melee's. The real deal is to watch the guy catching only a few on these days. He's usually recognized that for whatever reason, the bite is on and on hard,so this is a great time to key in on BIG fish. RW and FishChris come to mind. The fact that others are catching cast after cast is only 1 more "sign" for them to read, no big deal. To the guy on the bank who has never caught more than 6-8 per outting, it's like getting an extra birthday that year.

Night Fishing Questions
There is lots of info if you use search option, quite a few posts have covered this. as for me, in short I fish flats and especially the deep edges at night. I use the same techniques, lures and tactics as I do during the day. I cover those flats first and then will go in search of if they aren't there. Rock piles, points, etc. For me, night is not all about black lures and topwater bites. I fish the night as I would the day.

member challenge -update7/30
Ok, seems the growing pains are in full force now. 1. Thanks to the guys that have communicated the inconsistencies for the month. Your eyes and ears are a big help 2. The biggest problem so far is who is challenging who but I think that was my fault with inconsistencies in the rules. They have been reviewed and fixed but that brings me to #3. 3.You MUST adhere to the rules steadfastly. Pay attention to who you are challenging. Many folks just picked someone and challenged them so some didn't get challenged at all and some, twice and 3 times. There is an order, according to the list, of who you challenge and who challenges you,..it's not a free for all. Please READ THE RULES CAREFULLY!! 4. Pics are required to particvipate. Even if you skunk. again,,READ THE RULES. I'm preparing to wipe out july list and post Augusts. I expect this month to also have a few glitches but we should have it ironed out after that. Thanks again for everyones help. Let's go fishin'!!

I now know how a Jig bite CAN feel like
Tell him "more hardner" and I'll be back on the site buyin 'em up but man,..3, 4 casts, gone. I ain't rich,......hence the name Sorry for the hi-jack back on topic,.... L-rod has a good point, seeing as how you are on the finessing borderline anyway, don't trim the skirt and try it without the trailer. Worked on "Dorothy",..the fish in my avatar

I now know how a Jig bite CAN feel like
dwhite and I read the same book! Grns, blks and browns baby! I use all finesse jigs, 1/8oz to 1/4 oz and even the 1/4's are only in brands that come through a little light like the mango jig. I always use a craw trailer, the skinnier the better as the crays in my lake have very skinny pincers. I like the ones from Bear paws but they are hand poured and very very soft. They come off way too easily, like a yamamoto senko.

Blitzing bait tackle system
This is from a post in "other species". I thought you tacklemaking guru's would appreciatemy fine eye for detail. lol ---------------------------------------------------------- Blues on top are by far my favorite specie and method. Do I use a fly rod? I'm pretty sure Blitzing Blues and stripers are what they were invented for, lol!! OK,...If I get started on Bluefishing, I won't stop till tomorrow night and I have to fish tomorrow so I'm just going to post 1 thing. Somthing I want to share with my BR crew. This is a pic of the ultimate bluefish lure system. We build these by the hundreds. 2 or 3 sessions in the garage and there are enough for the season, with 3 of us we can make about 100 in 2 hrs and a 6 pack. You need swivels dowels 40 lb plastic coated wire Hooks crimps 40 lb sleeves beads Like mentioned above, these things will eat a spark plug if you stick a treble hook on it and close it in the gap. Yup,..it works. With this in mind, I got sick of spending good money on $5-10 lures and feeding them to the blues all day. It's bad enough how many rods we break by undersizing the gear. So, After catching on a spark plug one day when a school started boiling while I was clamming,.I decided to see just how much they really don't care. I built a dowel based, non painted lure and learned immediately that they are hitting somthing that is just skittering across the top. They don't care about shape, size, color, etc. So instead of lures, we used kastmaster copies and ripped them across the top of the boil. Worked great and when you lose one, it's $3. Still too expensive. Now get this,...here's the beauty. For those of you who know blues, you know all about their choppers. With this rig, You have the fish at the side of the boat. Rod tip is raise and you reach down to get fish. With this lure, you keep tension on the rod and grab the wooden popper. Slide popper up the leader till it reaches crimp and swivel at top of leader. NOW Lift the fish in the boat. Hands are totally safe from teeth. Make it one better and don't even boat the fish, just grab plug, bring up to swivel and lift and then get pliers and unhook,....start again. Pretty nifty eh? You can really have some fun thinking of fun things to write on the plugs. You can imagine,.lol "Atkins friendly". "bite me if you're stupid" "I'm a Baitfish" Some more You get the drift. Another note for non bluefisherman. Blues have teeth. We use a steel leader with a lure on the end. (leader-$1.50 lure-$5-$10) This system incorporates a steel leader and a lure all in one for appx $.50/ea I'm thinking as my stories unfold with the senko drama and now this that you guys are starting to understand that my screenname was no mistake. p.s. they cast a country mile!

Night Fishing
Use the same thing you would use during the daytime. In our lake (very clear) color means nothing, as long as it's natural (blacks, browns and greens)

*UPDATE* new guy need help!!!!!!!!!
Time out,...let's track the score here and keep things in perspective. You've been in the game less than 5 months You have a 5 and a 3 under your belt. No little task in many areas of the country. Took me 4 yrs in RI to get a fish over 4 lbs. Attempt all lures at all times and seek a pattern. That's learnin' fishin'. try the ss, also try a super fluke.

*UPDATE* new guy need help!!!!!!!!!
Seeing as how you're another salty dog, like myself, I'll put in salty terms. Ever be on a school of stripers or blues that are thrashing bait on top? Ever have it where for some reason, they won't take a single topwater you throw when the day before they would bite a spark plug if you threw it in there? What do you do? Get merely sub surface with a fly. All but a gaurentee.. Right? Apply that logic to schooling Largemouth. Try somthing like a manns baby 1-. Somthing that runs just sub surface and can be floated to the top. Original floating rapalas come to mind also in size 9,11 or 13. Then there's the other option. When on schooling stripers, this is always a good time for a heavy bucktail jig or a nice big chunk on a weight. Somthing that will get under the school quickly. Big fish are lazy fish, they sit under these melee's and suck up the free bits that fall. Try getting "under" the scool with soft plastics or deeper running cranks. Oh,...and WELCOME ABOARD!!

Under-cover contest winners
About a month ago I recieved a PM from Basschasser57. These are friends and members of the board, folks I had the opportunity to meet down in Fork last March. Many of you know Kevin through posting as well. Kevin and Tera approached me with an idea. Kevins friend and fishing partner of many years, George Lovins , has passed away. In his passing, he asked that Kevin do what he will with all the fishing gear this gentleman accumulated through the years. Kevin had asked me to come up with a way to distribute these goodies to some of the youth members on the board and when he asked Mrs. Lovins, she thought it was a fabulous idea, somthing George would have done himself. So I made a post in our "youth" forum asking this question... PERSONALITY QUESTION What is the one thing you have done in your life that has made you feel the best? (achievement, kind acts, pro-active involvment in a cause, etc) What's the 1 thing that stands out to you from your memory,...off the top of your head,..shoot Well we had some great replies and in the end, Kevin and Mrs. Lovins have come up with their choice of winners. Winners will be recieving a tackle package, contents relevant to placing. These packs are loaded with good stuff! Kevin sent me lists but they got wiped out with the mailbox limits. If your reply is listed in the 1st thru 3rd place standings, Please PM me with a parents work address or a PO Box address so we can get your prizes out to you. I WILL NOT ship to a personal address as our youth know my feelings about that. Kevin agrees that we lead by example. Remember, these kids didn't know they were in a contest, they were simply replying to a thread I started in their forum. Shifty,...I know, hehe 3rd place answer-Bassassasin12 "The one thing I have done that has made me most proud is helping out with my baby brother and making sure he has a good role model to look up too for future years, and also a good fishing partner forever " ----------------------------------------------------------------- 2nd place answer-Senko77 "Mine would absolutly be in 6th-7th grade summer, I volunteered at a nursing home. I would go there once a week for around 3 hours and play card games, get whipped in chess and checkers, and help them out with small projects. I had so much fun and made some great freinds. Most people pass off ederly people as boring, but you wouldnt beleive the stories they tell, and the humor they have. " -------------------------------------------------------------- 1st place answer: Bass89fisher "in 8th grade i went on a mission trip and watched a few of my close friends get saved and we all helped out this family who was livin in this shack of a house and we got them a trailer and cleaned out a real nice yard for them and there 3 kids. next summer im suppose to go to jamaca and build a church that will probably be my most rewarding thing of all. a 7lber also feels great every once in a while" LBH-Was that all through a specific church or all seperate stuff? Bass89fisher-the 8th grade trip was through school(private) and the upcoming one is with a missionary who is a friend of the familey So let's take a second and thank Kevin, Tera and Mrs Lovins for keeping BR in mind with this generous act of kindness. We are sorry that it came about this way but know in your heart that these kids will take a part of George with them on every trip to the water. His memory will live on in people he never met, myself included. Thank you George, Mrs. Lovins, Kevin, and Tera. Kids- Mrs. Lovins has been reading along under Kevins name, Basschaser57. This is the account you will use to send your "thank you's" to via PM. Send thank you's to basschaser57's pm account Youth winners- Also recognize this as a great time to "pay it forward" I always preach this to you guys but generosity is catchy,...like a smile. Share your new wealth with others in need and you won't regret it and I'm sure this would please Mrs. Lovins. And let's take another second to congatulate these fine kids!

Best bang for your buck jon boat
yes, understand that the size you are looking for isn't all that common. Most will use the flatbottom hull up to 14-16 ft and then graduate to a full hull bot from there. I think the 18's and 20's are primarilymade as work boats for rivers. As to holding their value, I just paid $450 for a totalled 1964 12 ft jon with totalled trailer. And in my book,I scored, lol. MY JON

Best bang for your buck jon boat
I had a "light duty" 12 a few yrs back. Weighed about 80 lbs. My 1964 12ft jon weighs 140 dry! Heavier guage but that's how things got built back then. The stability in this old jon is like none I've experienced in a 12 before.

CAST for kids-New England
tex- CAST is huge in Texas. It's our biggest state I believe. You have Art Pasley right there in Dallas who is a co-director if you will. He handles your 1/2 of the country, Jim Owens handles the other 1/2. Art is a GREAT resource. He has basically held my hand while trying to break ground in New England. Another event in Texas would be an easy one for someone to start as many of your state and local businesses have heard of us before. It's all Greek in New England. (not for long) If the thouhght of taking on a whole new event, I know you have family to tend to, is overwhlming, perhaps you could volunteer for an event close to you and get a feel for it first. Just a suggestion. GO FOR IT MAN!! If I can help you in any way, PM me for sure.

Best bang for your buck jon boat
Nowadays, they are all pretty similar. The big difference in price is whether it is welded or riveted. I would hunt for a used one first, lots out there if you have the time and patience to save some cash.

Please, please, please help me
I was serious guys,...geez,lol. A senko is a form of rubber worm made by a company called gary Yamamoto. Most tackle shops have these or some version of one. I would buy a pack of these in the color "watermelon". Probably the most universal, red hot, easy to use bait out there. It's been termed "idiot proof",lol. They are deadly coast to coast and in any color water. Hale has some good advice also about talking to shop owners but look for areas on the lake you should be fishing as opposed to opening yourself to be sold a bunch of junk. Perhaps you could road trip and meet madhouse 1/2 way? (very generous offer btw-Nice )

Finding Fish During reservoir Drawdown
Go deep immediately!!! ANYTHING deep. Holes, creek channels, etc. These fish are freaking out and retreating to the deepest, safest places they can be find. Oxygen may be an issue but Some of those more "in the know" can comment on that.

Fishing tip.
Actually, the kites are used to keep a rigged bait up on top Is the leftover balloon remnants that are tied to your line supposed to help attract the fish??
