Hosts needed-C.A.S.T. events
Folks, I'll be putting this up every couple of months so any new members who don't know the scoop can take a peek. I know many of you know the deal and I appreciate your patience but it's worth it, believe me! If I get 1 new host, that's over 200 lives changed. See what I mean? Thanks again for your patience with this on the board.

do novice mistakes cost you fish
LMAO ALL of the above, yearly. The "cutting the tag line and throwing the lure overboard" is my forte'! I think I've thrown more jigs overboard than I've caught fish on!

What do you consider yourself?
I'm a "smiler" As long as there's a smile, there is success. At least in my little world.

The drag setting is a common mistake. I still find myself setting the hook on a pre-adjusted drag. We're all human but I will also say that by being one of those guys that actually adjust the drag during the fight (theoretically the wrong way to do it) that I leave myself open to this malfunction because of my own refusal to do it the right way. Old habits....

Hosts needed-C.A.S.T. events
Howdy folks, this is a board wide appeal for anyone interested in holding a C.A.S.T. for kids event in their hometown. I hopped on board last year and have an event planned for Sept. I can't tell you all how satisfying this whole experience has been for me and the event hasn't even happened yet. What is it? CAST is an organization that teams up disadvantaged and disabled kids with local B.A.S.S. club members for a day of fun and fishing. The club members take kids out 1 or 2 at a time on their boat for an hour or so each while the other kids enjoy bank fishing, fishing games (cast, pitch, flip),face painting, environmental education(smokey the bear, etc)lunch, etc. The kids take turns till everyone has gotten out on the water. What would you do? As a host, you assemble and run a committee (about 6-8 people) The committe gets delegated certain aspects of the event such as -food -B.A.S.S. clubs -media -volunteers -fund raising -groundskeeping (set-up and breakdown, trash, etc) -entertainment -registration of attendees A CAST person will be appointed to you as a go-to person. This will be one of 3 people depending on your location. Jim Owens-founder- west coast Art Pasley-World fishing hallof famer- central U.S. Russ Thetonia(me)- East Coast. As a go-to person, we set you up with an orientation overview, planning packets and organizational tools etc. We have it all laid out , step by step according to a time line. This makes life much easier on the host. We are available 24/7 to assist you and we will not let you fail! We got your back from day 1 till the event day and further into the future. What does CAST provide? -Support. In every way -Planning materials -rods,reels,hats, tshirts,Photo ready plaques with event name and date that a polaroid slips into, tackle boxes (full) -volunteers via "telecom Pioneers" -Insurance -guidance We will explain how to get the kids and where to find them How to raise the money needed (not much) We set guidelines, schedules and support timetables. We are here 24/7 for your assistance and will also be on hand the day of the event. (1 of the 3 of us WILL be there) But this is all logistics. The big point to be made here is that lives are changed. Yours, your volunteers (friends & family), the kids involved, EVERYONE is changed by one of these events. You will have made a huge difference in many lives through your efforts, this,...I promise. Please visit the C.A.S.T for Kids Foundation website and surf around. Check out the video Jim made, truly moving. You can be a very special person to many special people. It's a great place to be! Anyone interested in being a host?

can the "wrong" lure spook bass?
We just had this conversation on the boat the other day. I was throwing a super spook and working it very aggressively. Drew in one miss from somthing very big. My buddy was fishing a senko and was catching sm to med fish. He was surprised that he was getting bites with me throwing the spook around. Frankly so was I. I always accepted the theory of this question to be true but proved otherwise monday. I think if they are hungry enough, not much will keep them from somthing they percieve as a meal. Kinda like us!

Has something like happened to you?
So far I've caught countless seagulls, 1 duck, 2 pelicans (fla),a muskrat, and was on board when Dirk hooked into a huge Doe. (long story) It happens. Last time fishing with Redtail up in Mass, we had an owl trying to add himself to the list. Luckily, He wasn't successful. In RI, BTW, we call those seagulls "white kites" once they are hooked. Even though they are considered "rats with wings", there is a $500 fine for killing one. One thing I learned after hooking my first bird was how incredibly "light" they are. Pretty cool. Now alot of that discovery channel stuff makes sense.

Who has Cajun77 in the member challenge?

lure defect
Try it wacky rigged. I wacky rig it for this reason specifically. When it's hooked in the middle, there is no "side to side", both ends wiggle right of the bat and all the way to the bottom, in a straight down fall.

Teens and Fishing
Norm-GeneinTx has a great idea, adds to the whole message you are delivering. A MINNOW TRAP!! Below is a pic of a trap that can be bought at Benny's , wal-mart,etc for about $10-$15 Load it with a rock and some bread and set it out overnight and you'll get some free bait and be able to do some exploring with the kids. Attach a length of clothesline to the clip which holds the 2 halves together. Crayfish, minnows, small gills, etc, they all love being caught in these evidently, can add another angle of learning. If you need more "real rods" just let me know and I can maybe meet you at lunch in Providence . I have a bunch of those Spidershafts you guys can use if you'd like. Have a blast, can't wait to see the pics!

Thank-you!!!!
Fluke,...you just made a 135 lb lineman. Are you nuts? I'm gonna get killed! But ,...back on a serious note... I'm gonna get killed, lol Sometimes I wonder how wide the scope of this site has become. How many doors have opened for people. How many more fish have we all caught. How many new friends have been made whether long distance or right in your own backyard. How many questions answered. How many families helped. How many people have open invites in states they've never been to offered by people they've never met. How many road trips were born. How many people's business we have influenced. How many hours Glenn has donated in maintaining this site. How many people got as lucky as us? Thanks Glenn. I'm gonna go put you on my list of people I look up to.

Transporting Fish to a different body of water?
Raul- Had you placed that fish in it's own tank loaded with Aquarisol (or the blue stuff they use in baitstore tanks to kill parasites) for a week or so, do you think this would have prevented your misfortune?
