Electric baby bass boat *(Pics added)*
You need to reshape your thinking here. All we have ever imagined when we say a fiberglass bass boat is the ones we have and know of now. Yes, they are heavy. They have to be,. The amount of glass used has to be enough for it to be able to support consoles, motors, torgue, waves, weight, etc etc. This would not be the case here. We are talking about a lightweight shell. Carpeted on top and adorned with the goods. Batts underneath and a livewell. The amount and thickness of glass needed for this kind of support is nowhere near the thickness (i.e. weight) of what is needed to support the weight and torgue of a 300 hp Yamaha! NJ- I've worked with fiberglass for years. Started out doing car audio fabrication and boat repair but can do anything from build glass furniture to build a skiff. This is what I'm thinking. Build a mold of a mini bass boat and top deck. Materials would certainly not be inferior. Total opposite. as for just getting a bigger motor, this is why I want the varner guys opinions. Many of the elec only clubs have guys competing with their boats instead of their angling skills. It comes down to who gets there first as a 1mph difference is huge between boats when you are talking electric. Mnay have 4,5,and 6 motorts, with as many batts and a ton of weight. Weight, weight, weight. This is the issue. If you could get the right hull design and weight paired with the right motor, a 150 lb fiberglass bass hull could have potential, with 1 82 lb motor to smoke many of the 1000lb boats with 4 motors and 8 batteries. See where I'm going? Lightweight, this is the key. Durability comes with the engineering.

This is just my point. The jon I have is about as stable as they get. Aside from stability, which I'm sure would improve, I'm talking about weight! We've seen lots and lots of conversions on here. 12's, 14's, flats, V's , modified V's, decks, no decks, you name it, we've seen 'em all. The biggest downfall of all of them is weight. The hardware weighs enough, add all that weight laden wood and there's the achille's heel. Especially for those of us who fish electric water. A hull and topdeck,..all fiberglass. Lightweight, strong. A hull shape much more condusive to stability and drag. But small. A baby bass boat. Varner group? Really would like your input also. You are the men in the know.

Dream Sponsors and Sponsors you'd never dream of
Shimano and their hats. That customer service dept gets more bang for their buck out of a $5 hat than anything they sell. That's just plain good business. And they are consistent in their mission. I don't currently use them but sure do respect them.

Speed- I think I yanked you out of context. I'm sure you weren't implying that if the KKK were rounding up anglers, you would hop on board just because they had a check. That wasn't how deep you meant your comment to go, I'm pretty sure. That IS the point I was trying to make though but I'm afraid it may seem like it got directed towards you as it was your reply that got me thinking along that line. To clarify, it wasn't. Confusion from text discussion once again. I see your point. I think what you mean is any "Industry related" sponsor, i.e "Yum, ranger, hummingbird, etc" would make a great sponsor and you would accept any one of them that offered. In other words, whether it's Triton or Ranger,...you don't care, you're in. I apologize if I'm correct. I could have been clearer.

Minn Kota vs. MotorGuide
Used a motor guide in Fork. Needed 2 feet to work the thing but it was old and in need of obvious maintenence. Personally, I can't see how the 2 can be all that different but I very well may be wrong. I've always used transom mount Minn Kotas and sure, they break, like everything I own,.lol,...but I will say this, and it's every bit as important as how well it works is that the customer service at Minn Kota can not be touched. They are absolutely top notch. I've also heard other countless stories from other anglers stating the same experience as mine. I've never personally dealt with motorguide to give an opinion.

I was reading Rauls post about the carbon fiber megabass jon boat and it got me to thinking. First I was thinking of a fiberglass jon boat but if I were going to go that route, why not just make it bass boat shaped but keep it to 12-14 ft and have all deck (no consoles) and elec only. Or it could be done like the megabass boat with a 6-10 hp and a channel for your legs. Wouldn't that be cool on Varner or my place or any of the elec only lakes? A 12 ft bass boat. Any fiberglass workers out there that could give me appx hull weights on somthing like this? Keep in mind, they don't have to be thick. Bracing can be glassed in for torsional rigidity. These won't be pounding waves, a rib system isn't even neccessary. Input guys??

The ultimate personal jonboat
But it's not a welded john,...it's a carbon fiber shell......add 2k. Oops,...megabass,...6k. Now look what you did Raul. I havn't handled glass in awhile but now I have a crazy idea that there's a niche for fully fabbed fiberglass jon boats. Hmmmmm Winter project? Test boat for the '07 season/ Wheels are grindin'.

Dream Sponsors and Sponsors you'd never dream of
So for all the folks who would let anyone sponsor them,....does Marlboro count? How about the KKK? Reverend Phelps church? Planned parenthood? (will conflict with the religion of many fans) No offense intended , I just personally wouldn't play the game if the only way I could do it was with these people's money. I'm not talking about sponsors that may be embarressing..i.e. ...I'm talking about choosing sponsors that will probably cost you other sponsors and certainly some fans. When you say you would wear ANYONE's name for $,..you leave yourself wide open. If you would, that's your choice, I'm just saying that I personally wouldn't. I'm not attacking anyone. I'm just trying to express my opinion. I mean, I don't even accept free stuff from *** just so my yamamoto vs knock off opinion retains it's integrity. It's not all about the money for me. That's just somthing my parents instilled in me.

Dream Sponsors and Sponsors you'd never dream of
No, But if someone in your family has a lawsuit against them for toxic shock syndrome, I wouldn't expect you to hop on board just cause they offered you money and a free ride. Good luck keeping the rest of your sponsors if it gets out. My point is that if a company that big is offering, surely there are other options also. All I'm saying is represent wisely. You are choosing your sponsors as opposed to a team like The Patriots. If the coorporate entity chooses the teams sponsors, it doesn't directly relfect on the individual player persay. However, when Joe quaterback does a Burger King commercial on his own in the off season, that does directly represent upon him. Certainly not an attack, just pointing out that fishing is like the BK commercials. The products you endorse as much as the reason why, CAN directly reflect upon your charachter, which CAN directly reflect upon the success or demise of your career. Again. No defensiveness needed, no offense intended. Just sharing what I know from experience. PM sent.

How funny would it be to have trojan as your primary sponsor and show up at the scales with a win using a roboworm. "Spawning bass want ribbed roboworms,....for her pleasure." Being a primarily male based business, I'm surprised we don't see more Male aimed products than we do. Would only make sense. * is already on board I believe, right? Do I remember seeing a * boat this year?

Dream Sponsors and Sponsors you'd never dream of
There's a term for that. the site filters won't allow it but it exists. remember, you are talking about individual competition. It's YOUR name out there, this isn't a team sport. I would only rep products I used and believed in. If you are at the level where you are attracting international or national sponsors like Skoal or Tyson,...don't be a Redman user. Instead, you approach Redman and explain that you have been approached by skoal but have always ben a redman user, allow them to make a counter offer. You are not only marketing your skills, you are marketing your integrity and charachter. This is a good read for all who are interested. Sponsorship : Marcia Ruben (reelady)

Dream Sponsors and Sponsors you'd never dream of
I've been a wise guy,...a mouth of sorts, quick witted but respectful. I would love to have them as a sponsor. Think of all the prepared come backs you would have after a couple weeks on the trail. You would have gotten every comment on earth by then and will have come up with all the possible come backs and narrowed it down to the most poignant ones.lol. "I brought extras in case you get a little teary eyed at the scales" To the guy who is the cooler boat owner "We had to use 6 of the super absorbant to help save one of them last week at Fork"! (pointing at his boat) Oh,...don't get me going.

LMAO!! I skied Moguls "A" in the late 80's and early 90's. Was an alternate for the '92 games in Tignes, Fra. Broke shoulder 23 days before we were leaving. Long story. Heartbreaker.

Dream Sponsors and Sponsors you'd never dream of
It's not just the name brand, it's the whole package they are offering. I've been fortunate enough to be sponsored by the ultimate sponsor. YOU. Skiing for the U.S. had us working for many companies that contributed to the program but when it's all said and done, the only name I ever wore that meant anything was the one on the back that said U.S.A. (no offense intended to Kodak, Visa, UPS, powerbar, snapple,North Face,Subura,etc.,etc,etc.) Remember, sponsorship is a WAY to your dream. If it is the actual dream, you're looking down the wrong path.

3 cracks in my aluminum boat
Define "cracks" Length, location, cause. Are rivets involved? Pics are best. Lots of ways to repair aluminum, fill us in and we'll steer you towards your best option. Bolts are the best replacement for bolts. Liquid nails is a construction material. Not a marine product.

any fly rodders
No snook but I have my share of tarpon under my belt. No big dogs though, biggest was 71 lbs. Funny story, guided trip in the keys with ex g/f's grand father. He had a 130+ on and his belt broke. Noone would help him with his pants. We have a pic of him taken from the rear of the boat looking towards the bow,he has a 130lb tarpon tailwalking in front of him about 20 ft away, legs spread about 5 ft apart, pants at ankles in his tighty whities, looking back at camera laughing like it was his birthday. Very funny.

How much do you think this bass weighs?
Hawg_Hunter and I give posing classes as well, lol. 8-) fish in my avatar is 1.3 lbs. (kidding)

How much do you think this bass weighs?
3-4ish in the toolbar above, under "tacklebox' there is a "fish calculator" where you plug in the length and girth and it gives you the approx. weight. You can use that as a reference till you get a scale.

4.4 lbs in 3 years?

Being a good loser makes you a real winner
Just a minute to reiterate the importance of good sportsmanship. There is nothing better than taking a loss with class and congradulating the winner with a handshake.........................and a smile! THAT is his real trophy. Your respect.
