Thoughts on Topwater and "Big" bass
Same here KU. I've gotten some big 3's and a few 4's from our lake on topwaters over the years but never that "next size class". I throw topwaters when I need to get back into the game and just want to be glued to the bait. Some baits blow my mind when they don't get hit,..."How could they resist that?" You'll see lots of big fish posted, caught on topwaters but I think most of these are from southern water where these fish still aren't the biggest in that lake. My partner is the primarily "big fish" hunter. He doesn't throw them at all, lol. I remember one year in the learning days where I threw the Super spook relentlessly. Wind, snow, rain, cloudy, bright, didn't matter, I was hooked on spookin'. Had a blast, don't get me wrong, lots of nice fish but not the hogs we all dream about. One big thing I like about the topwaters I throw is that they go a mile and sometimes, in a lake as clear as ours, that's what it takes to get the bite. With that being said, it's a great tool for getting a little closer to the goal of 5 in the boat sometimes.

Guaranteed To Catch Bass
Don't worry about the splash, concentrate more on paying attention to your line, especially as it sinks. Often you'll see the line jump, twitch or just plain start taking off. Reel in the slack while lowering your rod tip towards the direction the line is going and then set the hook. When I fished ponds from shore, I would quitely approach, sometimes even crouching, and cast VERY parallel to the shore for the first cast. Maybe 2 ft off the shore. I do this on the left and also the right. From there, I will fan cast that area till I have exhausted all angles from bank to straight out in front of me. Then I'll move( making sure I released all the fish RW just turned me on to of course ) to another spot on the shore, as far away from the last spot as possible and repeat. Keep doing this till you've covered all the reachable water.

Clay Dyer-National C.A.S.T. spokesperson!!
Message from Clay I am honored to have been chosen as the National Spokesperson for C.A.S.T. for Kids. For those of you who don't know, C.A.S.T. is a national organization whose primary purpose is to provide disabled and disadvantaged children with a quality outdoor recreational experience as well as increasing the awareness of all participants to the capabilities of children with disabilities. I was first introduced to fishing through an activity similar to those conducted by C.A.S.T. I doubt anybody associated with my first fishing experience ever dreamed that it would lead me to where I am today. That's the amazing thing about these programs. One very small seemingly insignificant act can create a spark that leads to a massive fire. As I serve my role as a spokesperson for C.A.S.T., I will be encouraging everyone I meet to get involved with introducing children, especially those who are disadvantaged or disabled, to the great sport of fishing. As I am living proof of, you never know where it might lead. Remember, if I can you can.

Clarification please... schooling vs. territorial
More selective, definately. Lots of food around, your offering has to be slightly different, injured, etc. Has to stand out but not in a way that will trigger a "flight" reaction. In early fall, I like horizontal baits. Flukes and cranks did OK this week when the bite was at a stand still. Jigs will be the mainstream bait from about next week or so till the water is hard. At first, I will be fishing them horizontally till the fish tell me they want it differently.

Guaranteed To Catch Bass
Know also that if you follow these steps, RW will be able to explain to you later all the different things you will have learned without even knowing it, whether you caught or not. Fishing like this, with soft plastics in general, will build skills that will help you learn most other baits with ease. This is a "slow" type of fishing. The hardest, (mentally-patience-wise) yet one of the most productive. Follow these instructions to a "T" and successs will be eminent. Get this tactic under your belt and you'll be surprised how ahead of the game you are when you move on to other types of baits and lures. Most important: Pay attention to every little detail. You will be picking things up (retaining in memory) without even knowing it. Great post RW, way to help out.

Our C.A.S.T. event countdown
I havn't fished it personally but the B.A.S.S. guys swear it's perfect. Tons of sunnies and small aggressive bass. Location-wise, we couldn't have done better if these guys are right. Wait till you see this place.

Salt Water
My sentiments also. If my friend were standing in front of me saying the same thing, I would do everything to pursuade him to take the time and aggravation to sell the boat now while it's in top notch shape. Replace it with somthing designed for this application, there seriously is a big difference. I have a '92 Whaler, not a stitch of rust on it. I've seen brand new boats turn to junk in a year. With the care you are willing to provide, I'll give yours 2. Really somthing to think long and hard about. There are some really nice backwater boats out there.

Our C.A.S.T. event countdown
To be honest, I havn't met any of the kids that are coming yet, just the activities directors at their facilties. I have a goal. I want to make 1 friend each year that I can keep in the game. 1 kid that really takes to this fishing thing with a passion. I'm sure there will be 1 family I connect with that I can have a continuing fishing schedule with. A big goal at this event that is different from past CAST events is that the people helping with shoreside fishing (RI B.A.S.S. youth team) and all the boat captains have been instructed that the main goal or mission here isn't just to get a child fishing but to also TEACH the FAMILY & SIBLINGS so they can take this whole experience with them and continue it when we aren't around. It's the parents that need to know how to tie a knot and set up a bobber, etc.

Salt Water
FUSE PANEL!! How could you forget the fuse panel? lol ;D * You didn't mention the make. If it's a saltwater boat,..i.e. Whaler, Grady-white,etc........... If it's not a model designed specifically for saltwater, and even at that, it needs to be a good one,.....I wouldn't even dream of it. Boat will be junk in short time.

I will be making a big video of the whole event. If you think they have been getting long lately,....you won't like this! I gaurentee however that it will surely move you. I havn't looked forward to somthing this much in a looong time. Fingers crossed for no mishaps. Thanks again to all who got us this far.

Electric baby bass boat *(Pics added)*
Oh believe me, If I build it, it will be more than fishable!! This won't sit on a shelf. I think his point is that I could have more space and more room with other designs. Totally true but I would be willing to sacrifice some of those for novelty. I'm also the guy who takes very little on board. I don't even own a tackle box, all my tackle stores under my front seat, lol My biggest concern is having a dry bag to keep my camera and next set of clothes dry. With this set up, I'll have much more DRY storage. Look at the 2 side by side,...pretty similar.

Goal is to try and have novelty meet function in the middle somewhere.

Both light grey areas would be huge dry lockers Those run stern ---> Bow. The Low Budget Hookers emblem sits on another storage compartment that runs side to side. This one would hold a dozen big plano 3700's (will have the slots for them) or can be used as 3rd dry locker. One of the dry lockers can have a drain plug and aerator added easily if a livewell is needed. Drain plug will go in one of mine, Just in case. Aerator can always come later. It's only a short run to the electricity which is 3 batt's, lined straight up the middle. proposed storage in white boxes
