why does TV do this
I'll watch Linder's show for the bass fishing but the walleye and religious stuff he can leave out. As for fishing shows featuring women, there is a show (Direct TV) called "Fishing with Kelly and Courtney". The show features 2 Canadian women that usually fish for trout and salmon. It's a good show and they appear to really know what they are doing.

I wish I lived in Cal.
I live in northern Cal. near Sacramento and right now I wished I lived somewhere else! It has rained for 2 weeks straight and the forecast shows more rain thru Saturday. This has been hell for me. I've been trying to get on the water for what seems like forever. Around here I usually fish Folsom Lake, Camp Far West and Lake Oroville. If I could live anywhere at the moment I'd move to Georgia, specifically, the same Dock that Senko77 nailed that fat 14.7!

Al Linder the fish grappler
After watching a few old Al Linder fishing shows I noticed that when he lifts his bass out of the water he grabs it on top behind the head like you'd grab a ham sandwitch. I was always taught to either net a bass or lip it to protect it's natural slime coating. It's hard to watch, everytime I see him boat a fish I cringe. Anyone else notice? Maybe I'm just too carefull.

You guys Have to check this out! (Video)
Wow! ;D Good thing there aren't any wardens. That guy had way more than 5 in the boat!!!

Most "original" way to fish.
RW nailed it. All I need to do to guarantee a fish is to dig out the 'trip-ender' knot from the professional over-run on my Curado.

Hey guys how was your year??
Sadly I caught a lot fewer bass this year than last year (2004). I was able to get my boat on the water late in the year so that is definately a factor! Next year I plan to be 'on' the water more that 'at' the water a whole hell of a lot more! I just bought some fresh Yozuri hybrid and Max Pro and I'm chompin'at the bit!

hooked fingers
I took my 10 year old nephew bass fishing for the first time. What did I get for it? Hooked in the head (hence the name). Click here for all you morbid curious types! It was a 3/0 Gamy EWG. It hurts just thinking about it. Luckily my buddy showed up and was able to push it through, snip the tip and back it out. It was DEEP

Cold front coming, X RAP help
Great info! Thanks all. I'll try out my new X RAP this weekend at Folsom. I've only used it 1 other time, last summer, at Folsom. I got a lot of bass bumping it but no takers. I'll have to give it a try.

What would you have done?
You did the right thing. As a fellow pond fisherman myself I can feel your pain. Last month I was fishing a small pond at the end of a very long hike (only way to get there) and after a few casts at my favorite secluded spot I hear a huge spash on the other side of an brushy point. The next thing I see are 2 goats and a woman swimming in the pond. The cool thing was that she had no idea I was there. I quickly grabbed a 1oz Rat-L-Trap and chucked it as far as I could in a safe direction and varied my retrieve. Sure enough the lady started freaking out. She thought there were rattle snakes somewhere in the water (I heard her shout to another person not in the water). Even though she wasn't completely underwater she could hear the loud rattling from the lure. She quickly gathered her goats and her friend and left. ;D Do what you can NOT to get revenge on these idiots. It really isn't worth it. Try talking to them first. If that doesn't succeed, get some pet goats and go swimming.

Would these docks work
If I were you (and I wish I had the opportunity!) I would be skipping pumkin Gitzits under those docks.

softest worms?
I second that! I really like the Stike King 3X Zero worms. When I first saw them I thought, $3.99 for a 5 pack of worms? NO WAY! Then I read about them and decided to try 'em. I did and noticed that 1 or 2 worms will last you the entire day. One problem with them is they slip down the shank after about 15 casts. I remedied that problem with keeper hooks: The barbs make it nearly impossible for the work to come off. The formula used to make the Zero worms make it extremely tough to get the worm off the hook.

Whats your craziest catch?
I've caught frogs and other usual wetlands type of animals. The one catch that stands out in my mind is when I reeled in a 3 pound LM and while taking the hook out of his mouth discovered a leader. With the fish lipped in one hand and the leader in the other I slowly pulled out a 6 inch brush hog with an exposed rusty hook out of his gullet. I was amazed the hook didn't snag his insides (gut) at all while in there. The brush hog was discolored and was starting to break down. The legs and arms of the hog were nubs. Strange days indeed.

Caught a good one on a Yellow Magic today!!!
AHBasser, that has got to be the funniest thing I've read all week. Sorry you had a hard time with that duck but now that I think about it, 1 duck will feed a lot more people than 1 fish! Nice catch!

Have you ever "called your shot"?
My fishing buddy and I bought our first boat and on her maiden voyage we fished a really muddy lake. After 6 hours of fishing the sun was dipping into the lake and we decided to call it a day (the lake closes at sundown). On the way back to the ramp I saw a round rock about 3 feet in diameter just off a point and I say to my buddy, "Pull over there real quick, I need to pick up this bass before we go home". He looks at me like I'm crazy but takes me to the rock anyway. With the motor still idling I cast a blue and black buzz bait toward the rock. The buzz bait slams onto the rock, bounces off and lands in water. As soon as it hit the water a nice 2 pounder hit it. This was before I had a chance to work it to the surface! My buddy's eyeballs popped out and we laughted our ***** off back to the ramp. ;D

Cavitation plate problem?
Thanks Ben, that's good to hear. I'll experiment with it this weekend....in between fishing spots.

Cavitation plate problem?
I just recently got my 12' aluminum boat back on the water. It's a shallow V-hull that originally came with a Johnson 7.5. When I first got the boat we used the 7.5 and it chugged along pretty good while wide open. A few years back my cousin gave me a 1993 9.9 Merc. He was using it on a zodiac but after an accident he discovered that almost half of the cavitation plate on 1 side was broken off. Last weekend I put the 9.9 on and tooled around the lake at probably twice the speed of the 7.5! It was nice. I was expecting cavitation problems but all went well except for one thing. At top speed the cavitation plate is only about 2 inches underwater! It didn't affect speed or trim at all (I adjusted the trim after a few trial runs). Does that mean the shaft isn't long enough? It's a standard length shaft. The cavitation plate sits about 2 inches below the bottom of the boat. I know its getting water, there is a steady "pee stream" coming out of the side of the motor at all times. What do ya think?

A new pond and hard to catch bass
I've recently discovered a new pond in my area. It belongs to the city and was once a rock quarry pit. I'd say it's about 1 acre and almost perfectly round. Three quarters of the pond are surrounded by steep rocks. The remaining one quarter of the pond is about 4 feet thick with cat tails around the edge. I fished it for the first time on Monday. I tried everything; plastics, cranks, spinners, jigs you name I chucked it. I didn't catch any bass but got followed and nibbled on by a lot of blue gill. I fished all the rock walls but none of the cat tails because I wasn't able to get there without getting scratched up by blackberry vines. After spending 3 hours at the pond a family showed up out of nowhere and decided that the best place to jump in would be from the top of a tree right damned next to me. At that point I decided to leave. While driving out I stopped and talked to a man working on his truck. I asked him about the quarry and he said that there are bass in it they are just "really hard to catch". He assured me they were in there. One thing is for sure, it's loaded with blue gill. I'd like to go back and fish the side with cat tails. I'd also like to try to use some of the baby blue gill as bait. I've seen people bass fish using shiners. They'll tie on a bobber anywhere between 18 24 inches above the hook and let the distressed fish call the bass. My question is; how do I hook them? Spine? Through the eye sockets? Lip? Any other suggestions (rigging or otherwise) would be greatly appreciated! Okay, I've just read the 'shiner' post below. :
