  1. MARSH MASTER posted a topic in Fishing Tackle
A week ago I posted this topic and it got lost on the switch to the tackle forum. Im looking for some information on the importance of weights on soft plastics. Is there a science to this or is it a personal preference? I understand the basics of it like when its warm and the fish are active go with a heavier weight to create more action. If its cold and the fish are slow to react I would use a lighter weight. Is there more to it than that if so I would like to learn more about it and if not why have weights down to the sixteenths? Can the wrong weight affect hook ups?
  2. I'm in the market for some new polarized glasses for fishing since my 1 year old daughter just cracked my Costa's in half. I need some opinions on the best glasses out there. My price range does not go over $300.
  3. I believe the K.I.S.S. philosophy works on consistantly catching fish but when tournament fishing it doesn't. When tourny fishing your targeting a certain fish not numbers but weight. F B L's post proves it.
  4. does that drink go well with vodka, rum or crown
  5. GET HYPE
  6. I'm not sure If everyone here knows whats it's like to go threw a natural dissaster but I do. You are without your home, clothes, miles from freinds and family, no job to support your family, and you loose all security. You realy don't know how it is till you live threw it. We all need to pitch in and lend a helping hand for our fellow Americans. If theres anything you can do for these people is more than appreciated trust me I know from experience. You can donate food, clothes, anything. If you donate money watch for the low life scum that post fake charaty's. I'm not sure of the different charaty's other than red cross and the salvation army. If anyone knows or some other ones feel free to post them. If there are any BR members with special needs don't be shy I'm sure everyone on here will do what they can. God bless
  7. Yes you all are right I am thankfull me and my family are safe. I guees this is the price you pay for living 10' below sea level. Big-O I mite be taken some road trips soon to the lonestar state. I'm thinking about Sam Rayburn.
  8. Let me start by telling you how it was before. I fish a tiddle flowing series of lakes and bayou's with the deepest at about 6'. It's truly a sportsmans paradise when you can catch bass up to the double digit catagory, redfish as big as 30-40 lbs and speckle trout all within about 5 miles of each other. Everything was great, the bass were getting bigger and bigger while the redfish was thicker than ever. Let's not forget about the speckle trout one after another. Then comes the storms back to back, Gustav and Ike. We took a good blow with Gustav but with Ike we had a tiddle surge just as bad. The louisiana marsh was completly under water by atleast 5'. All my bass fishing holes were full of gulf water and you could imagine what could have happened. I went out 4 days after Gustav had passed fishing for anything that would bite. We found some redfish early then we were able to pick up on some little dinks. Catching the dinks was defenetly a confidence builder after a huricane that brought in a 8' tidle surge. Now 5 days afer Ike we took another trip to see the damage. I'll tell you one thing we defenetly have alot more fishing water but we losed all of our cover (grass). We bombed out bad, not even a sniff of anything. It looked like a war zone. The bush was spread out across the lakes and the water was the saltiest I have ever tasted out there. The fish had dissapeared. I haven't got skunked in a long time and it was very humbling. We was still making our come back after Katrina and we take a double blow. I'm realy not sure if the bass fishing will ever bounce back after all this. Everything is dead, the marsh, the fish and it smells like te water died to. This was a very dissapointing day for me as a bass angler. Tomorrow is my birthday an my wife got me a new E7 and I'm not sure when I'll be able to set the hook on a bass with it in the near future. Looks like I'll be taking some road trips as long as the price of gas keeps going down. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
  9. I have fished them all down here in the swamps and I tell you the most productive all around frog is the Rage Tail in the chartruese belly. Each frog has its time and place but the Rage Tail will produce more often than not.
  10. If it ain't RAGE TAIL it ain't worth it.
  11. Sound like a great time in the rain. Who's pond was you fishing Bill Dances? ;D ;D ;D
  12. The bad part is that we have these pumps that releave the river when it gets high but for the tidal surges they reversed these pumps. I had a freind thats with the police depatment and he saw thousands of fish going threw them into the river. I was wondering if the salt water comes in does the fresher water sit on the bottom in the deeper parts?
  13. Man I know how it feels I fish in carnaven and we had 6' of the gulf in here. It just started to come back after Katrina. Looks like I better start redfishing for awhile.
  14. Well as some of you might have noticed the tropics has been very active for the gulf coast. Two weeks ago Gustav had come into the gulf and hit South Central Louisiana. I live just east of were it hit and if you follow hurricanes the east side is the more desructive side of the storm. We faired out ok we didn't have power for about a week. This didn't get to me that bad it was just a little inconvienent for my wife. The part that realy upset me was the Gulf of Mexico was sitting in my bass fishing area for two days. A couple of days had gone by so me and a buddy decided to go see the damage after hearing that the area had a big fish kill. We went out and did so so we ended up with 18 red fish (no big supprise) and 10 dinks. It kept our hopes alive since we were still recovering from Katrina. Then Ike comes through and brings the gulf right back in with a 8' tiddle surge. I hope some of the bass survived threw all this salt water. I won't be able to go out till Tuesday to see what is left behind after these two storms. I'm disgusted to even think that it might be another three to five years till the bass fishing gets back to normal. I guess I just had to vent about mother nature.
  15. Awesome story and nice fish. I've seen this happen to with bass and other species.
  16. Im a catch n release guy so the pics are at the taxidermy right now.
  17. This is a regular ghug a bug
  18. I just went through that on a lake in texas and it took some trial and error. The bait that proved best was a silver chug a bug.
  19. alright give me $50 and I'll bite you
  20. Thanx Steve were doing fine we got a hotel here in Killeen. I just hope it don't flood agian or I'll be looking for a house here in Texas. Thanx for the tips I'll try them in the morning. Any color preference?
  21. At least its down sizing with winds at 115 mph
  22. Well I evacuated from my home and decided to come to Killeen Texas with my boat of course. I decided to come here becouse this is were I lived at after katrina for 6 months. I have fished this lake already the last time I was here. I did pretty good las time but it was fall and I figured them out easy. This time I'm having a hard time figuring these bass out. It's like there inbetween summer and fall but I can't locate them. Let me tell you what I've done so far. I fished main lake points I fished drop offs in the 12-30 ft range main points in creek channels grass beds shallow flats in the evening This is the lures I threw. jig spoon fat free shad multiple depths spinnerbait x rap I did find some fish under the birds but I could consitantly catch them and I went threw all my tackle to try and mimick the shad. The only thing that worked OK was the 3/4 spoon. I guess I could've thrown a fluke but I didnt think about it then. I'm realy not a finesse fisherman I like to throw big baits with big profiles. Well fill me in on what I'm not thinking of.
