  1. No doubt. Powell makes a great stick and xfast would work just fine. Go for it!
  2. I could be wrong...but 99% sure its wood
  3. I voted for P-line, but both are GREAT! CXX does have more memory, but it floats better than Yozuri, which helps me walk my gunfish and spooks. Also, I rather the green color of CXX than Yozuri. Both are tough as nails and awesome line though!
  4. Reel: 7.1:1 (you want to be able to pick up line quickly if the fish is running towards you) Rod: 7' M/F or MH/F (7' gives you more line pickup on the hookset and a Fast action gives you a fast enough tip to drive home a hook, but enough give to not rip it out of thier mouth)
  5. 1. Strike King 1.5 (Gizzard Shad) 2. 1/2 oz Jewel Football Jig (PB&J) 3. 1/4 oz Cavitron Buzzbait
  6. I have and was not impressed. They twisted my line pretty bad and didnt put off as much thump as I thought they should. I did get a couple fish on em, but dont throw them anymore due to me have zero confidence in it. I much rather a Missle D bomb or Rage Craw.
  7. Main thing to remember when fishing with a C-Rig, especially with braid, is to sweep the rod instead of jerking over your head to set the hook. The braid will not absorb any thing, so your taking all the force of your hookset and applying it to 3 ft. of mono. 15lb mono or floro should work just fine, just work on your hooksets.
  8. +2 on the Veritas... BUT, dont overlook the Powell Deisel rods. they have a 723C that I think you would love for $70.
  9. Owner Ultra Lock
  10. If you throw cranks alot, then a moderate action rod is a must...other than that, everything else can be thrown on a 7' MH/F and 7' M/F
  11. I ordered the St. Croix Legend Extreme 6'9" ML/XF a week ago and I love it! I have only thrown light shaky heads on it so far, but i could see it working well with wacky worms too!
  12. Timing was one reason for not locking into Pool 3...but trust me, the further north you go, the better the fishing. Pool 3 has very little grass in it. Pool 4 has quite a bit of grass, and Pool 5 is LOADED with grass. I won our club tournament in Pool 5 in July with 17.5lbs...thats a sack for anywhere on the river in the summer. We fished Pool 2 back in June and I came in 4th with only 5.15lbs. Only had one person in our 50 man club with over 10lbs that day! Heck, I was in Pool 3 two weeks ago fishing the ALBC top 25 qualifier and we came in 4th with only 2.5lbs lol. The winner had 11lbs out of Pool 4. The river can give up alot of numbers, but big fish can be hard to find.
  13. Abu Garia Vendetta 6'9" MH/F w/H2O Express Mettle - 15lb Yozuri Hybrid Cabelas XMTLI 7' MH/F w/Pflueger Patriarch - 15lb P-line CXX
  14. If I could only have one bait it would be a KVD 1.5 in Gizzard Shad. I catch a TON of fish on that bait every year... If I could have 2 baits it would be the KVD 1.5 and a Rage Craw!
  15. Timing is everything. Once you get it to make its first turn, then you have to time it out just right to where you work the slack line right before you the frog comes to a stop. Once the frog comes to a stop, then you have to work to get it to start walking again. Once you figure it out, it becomes second nature, but you have to have the right cadence.
  16. I dont think you buy a Heavy powered rod based on the size fish you are catching, but you buy a Heavy powered rod based on the baits you will be throwing. If your throwing 1/2 oz jigs and big plastics on this rod, then I would suggest go with the 704C. You dont want a underpowered rod...I promise you that.
  17. If your looking for a rod to throw plastics and jigs, even around smaller fish, I would look into the Powell 703 or 704. Also, you can get a Powell Deisel 765 for $70 and from what Ive heard, its a great rod! If you just want a M rod, then look at the Powell 702. I would stick to Powell, IMO, you cant beat them in that price range!
  18. Pool 3 has good fishing at times...but it doesnt compare to 4 and 5. If you fish pool 3, I would recommend launching out of Midway in St. Maurice. It is close enough to Montgomery and Colfax, yet close enough to lock through to pool 4 if you want. The St. Maurice oxbow is great fishing at times too. BUT, the lower end of pool 4 is awesome!! The Jungle and Sullivans are two of the best places on the entire river. Heck, you see alot of Elite guys running all the way down there from Pool 5 in the Classic, you dont see any of them lock through to pool 3 though lol, at least not any of the top guys.
  19. I love night fishing on Toledo...but I have had the chance to do it this year. I wont be able to get back up there until September for the fall bite, but I would imagine that fishing humps in 12-15 FOW at night would be the way to go. And, dont EVER pass up a lighted pier!
  20. I just bought a St. Croix Legend Elite 6'9" ML/XF off of the St. Croix bargain room for $180!!! I paired it up with a 50e and it is a finesse fishing dream.
  21. Contact Pure fishing and see what they say. Im sure you can send it in and get it fixed cheap.
  22. I just bought a new set up just for shaky heads...6'9" St. Croix Extreme ML/XF. Im pumped about the rig as Im falling in love with the shaky head!
  23. If I could buy any boat it would be a Statos/Champion Elite 210. The Champion hulls were some of the best ever built and now that Stratos bought em out, the Elite 210 is basically a Champion. I would put a Mercury 250 ProXS on it with two HDS 10's, one on the bow and one on a ram mount by my console. I would also have a HDS 7 in the console stritly for GPS. All would be hooked up to structure scan. Of course, 2 powerpoles too! This hull is the absolute best in rough water and still has decent speed. The front deck is HUGE and fishes great! Now a close 2nd would be a Bullet 21XDC. Its front deck is right at 10' long, it flies (90's), and it handles rough water suprisingly well. I would have a 300 Super Mag on it (baddest looking motor ever made!) with the same electronics.
  24. Im different than most. I prefer to use a larger shaky head to get it down quick and fish it fast! Of course, I dont know how to fish slow...
  25. I have rods from just about every company under the sun. I did find one brand that stuck out to me and I feel in love with them! This brand had no dealers within 150 miles of me, so I contacted the company about the possibilities of hooking up with a dealer here in central LA. Well, to make a long story short, I was put on their "pro staff". I get a small dicount off of their rods, which are my favorite, but they knew going into it that I had a ton of different brands and I dont think that they expected me to throw all my rods away and purchase 20 rods from them for the small discount they gave me. Matter of fact, I have been on "pro staff" for about a month and a half and have not ordered one rod because I just dont need another right now. My purpose of getting on the pro staff wasnt for the perks, but was to try and find a dealer in the area to start carrying them. So my answer is, no, I dont think its a big deal to use other brands. Now obviously when I look into a new rod, this company is going to get my business, but they may have to wait until Christmas.
