So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Went back up there today. Ended the day with 55 fish, big fish right at 5lbs. Caught fish on football jigs, deep cranks, topwater, and a-rig. My fish are still deep...and thats how I like to fish em!

Input On Falcon Cara Head Turner & Cara Finesse Jig Rod.
Head Turner for pitching...the Finesse Jig is a great 1/4-5/16 oz rod, but 3/8 and over get the Head Turner.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
I finally got out there this past Saturday. Launched out of Cypress Bend and was going to run down to White Oak first thing. It was nasty and fogy and I couldnt see the bouys so I was idling at the mouth of Lowes and came across a good school of fish. Didnt throw out hte marker bouy, but did manage to find them with my rod in my hand for a bit and caught one right at 7lbs in em. Once the fog lifted I ran down to White Oak and caught some small fish. Same story in Six Mile and La. Islands. That evening I got on some better fish in Slaughter on a point and caught 6 3lb fish on consecutive casts. After that though all I could catch was smaller fish. Anyway, ended up a pretty good day. Caught fish in all stages, but my better fish came off of points. If the wind didnt blow a million mph I would have hit more main lake points, but oh well, theres always next time I guess. Crankbait and A-rig caught majority of my fish.

The Red River At Natchitouches La
Yea Pool 4 will probably get pounded on, but like I said, DONT overlook Grand Ecore. I won a tournament last year without every crankin my motor. The point on the left hand side running out of grand ecore on the main river usually holds some good fish as will the point in the grand ecore creek.

The Red River At Natchitouches La
If its held out of Grand Ecore, which I imagine it is, I would prefish the Grand Ecore bayou. Alot of big tournys are held out there and alot of big fish get released right there. Going south, there are numerous good oxbows and cuts, St. Maurice, High-Line cove, Montgomery, Radio Tower just to name a few. BUT, the best fishing (if not Grand Ecore) would be up in pool 4. Its about 10 miles north of Grand Ecore, you can lock through and you are right there at Red Oak, the Jungle, and Sullivans. Try the very back of Sullivans with a spinnerbait or fliping cypress trees, if nothing in there, you can always find good fish in the Jungle. This time of year, spinnerbaits, squarebills and flippin will dominate. You can find plenty of fish in the main river, BUT your better fish will be in the oxbows!

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
I was up there for an hour or so Saturday until the wind picked up and blew us off our main lake humps....didnt really feel like getting in the creeks and fighting all the boats, so I loaded up and went to Black Lake lol. We didnt get bit the hour we fished tho.

Flipping/pitching Rod?
Dobyns OWNS the flip/pitch rods. Get yourself a Dobyns Champion 765 FLIP...you wont regret it. There are a ton of good flipping rods out there, but Dobyns is heads above the rest in this catagory.

Shimano Cumara Vs. Phenix Recon
I too would recommend the 795 recon. I love my 764, but my next will be a 795 for added distance and power for punching!
-
Crank Rod Vs Useing "crank Line"
I use a graphite M/M, a graphite MH/M, and a glass MH/MF with mono on them all for cranking. I like the castability and shock absorbtion of mono over bradi and floro for cranking, but I also like a Moderate action rod too.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Me and Wdycrankbait are heading up there next Saturday...was thinking about going to Six Mile, but after reading your report, I may stay further north by the bridge and if that dont work out then head south in the evening.

Shimano Cumara Vs. Phenix Recon
I have a Cumara 7'2" M/XF and a Phenix Recon 764C. They weigh about the same in my hand and both balance exremely well with a slight edge to the Recon. If I were buying a punching rod, I would go with a Recon 796. I like the more MF taper of this rod over a Cumara's F action. Both are fantastic rods and for $125, a Cumara is hard to pass on!

Best Rods If Money Wasn't An Issue
No doubt customs... BUT if we are talking production rods, I would lean heavily on Loomis GLX and Dobyns DX...and maybe a Megabass thrown in too.

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
We didnt get the rain and winds expected here in central LA. It actually turned out to be not much worse than a normal thunderstorm. Now down in Slidell/New Orleans area...they got pounded! Praying for all the families down there.

I havent fished them all, but I have fished most. THis is a list IMO... $100 - BPS Carbonlite or Abu Veritas $150 - Powell Endurance or old style Shimano Crucials $200 - Phenix Recon or St. Croix Avid $250 - Shimano Cumara or Dobyns Champion
