  1. Not sure...was thinking Sam Rayburn Marina just because its closest, but wouldnt mind going to Umphrey's because thats where I see all the tournaments are held out of.
  2. Any recent reports from Rayburn. I'm gonna try and fish it for the first time this Friday. What would be a good starting point for me? Area, depth, bait??
  3. First time I went to Toledo was camping with my grandparents. My cousin and I were about 10 years old and we brought a 20 horse merc and rented a 12ft jon boat to put it on. We launched at North Toledo State Park and ran that boat all the way to the Chicken Coop. Got in alot of trouble when everyone found out we ran that across the lake...but we did catch a few fish!
  4. There is a certain bridge in 30 ft in the middle of Housen that can be awesome during Jan. and Feb. but I havent caught much off of it the rest of the year. I've fished the tracks in Sandy Creek and caught some fish, but they were relating more to the grass than the tracks I believe.
  5. I would add a 7' mh/m rod with a 5:1 ratio reel or a 7'3" h/f rod with a 7:1 ratio reel
  6. Express Kid, glad to have you! I plan on being on the Bend this weekend.
  7. I have never been on Rayburn, so I have no idea where the grass is ect. But, Peckerwood point doesnt impress me much on a map, at least the point itself doesnt, but just NW of the point the creek comes in parallel to some flats around N 31.18953 W 94.30407 that looks good to me. I love fishing deep ledges though, so thats more of what I look for. If I were fishing Peckerwood Point I would fish the SW side of the point were it tapers off in deeper water.
  8. I know the names of absolutely nothing on Rayburn, but man Ive been looking at the Navionics map of it and it looks awesome! If I were fishing Rayburn tomorrow, I would fish a few of the flats on the south side of the lake with the creek channel running beside it. N 31.08094 W 94.06112 seems to be close on Acmemapper 2.0 to where Im looking at.
  9. I've never been on Rayburn, but I would love to learn it!!
  10. First 2 hooksets with braid I reeled in the top lip of the fish. Had to tone down the braid hooksets, but other than that, with floro, Im setting that thing as hard as I possibly can. Ive jerked 2lb fish out of the water and watched them fly over my head into the water on the other side of the boat with my hook through his eyes!
  11. A great blank, but they feel tip heavy to me compared to most other brands in that $200-$250 price range.
  12. Well guys, had a buddy call me up late yesterday evening and wanted to go fishing. We packed up and headed west to Toledo. Got to the lake at 11:00 p.m. and fished till 9:00 a.m. Caught 21 fish, best five weighing 34lbs!!!! This ties my personal best 5 fish limit, both times out of Toledo. Best bite was from 12-3. My buddy caught a 9lber on the first cast at my main spot and shortly after I boated a 8.45lber. We bounced around all night, but everytime we came back to my main 10 yard stretch we caught good fish. I caught the 8.45lber and two 7lbers there and my buddy caught the 9lber. We broke off 2 BIG fish, an easy 7+. I think we had the bites for a 40lb stringer last night, but its so much brush, grass, and stumps its hard to catch every bite. All fish were caught on a 12" black/blue worm around a certain channel bend. Also right before we left at 9, there were fish schooling EVERYWHERE. I know I saw at least 10 different schools of fish busting shad halfway back in the creek. We caught a few, but then had to get home.
  13. I own a Powell Max 703CB Glass, Duckett 7'11" Crankin rod, BPS Carbonlite 7' M/M, and a Powell TW exclusive Deep Crankin rod. For anything diving 15'+ the Powell TW exlusive Deep Crankin rod is lights out. The Duckett doesnt even compare. I can feel every little subtle change and it is forgiving enough to keep fish buttoned. For shallower cranks, I like my Powell Max 703CB Glass. Its not quite as "sensitive" but you really dont need an uber sensitive rod for cranking. It has the perfect flex IMO and I have yet to loose a fish on it and that is over 3 years. I think the Powell 703 CB Glass is the most versitale out of the bunch too. I can through sqaurebills to 6XDs on it no problem.
  14. Fishing has been tough most everywhere in LA this year except Toledo Bend and the Red River for me.
  15. We caught fish both at night and day. The 7lber was caught at 9 am.
  16. 734! Its a super versital stick and fishes more like a MH than a true H.
  17. All of my fish Friday came in 12-15 ft.
  18. If you are getting blowups but not hooking up, change colors or size. I have seen the swat at a white frog, so I switch to a black frog and catch every fish...
  19. I have the 714 and the 775. I love them both, but you cannot beat the 775 for the thick stuff. Awesome backbone, but doesnt rip out the hook. The 714 is probably the most versital rod though. I throw spinnerbaits, football and flippin jigs, and trigs on it up to 3/4 oz. the 3/8 to 3/4oz is its sweet spot.
  20. Lets see if this works...I also caught another over 6lbs that I didnt take a pic of.
  21. NICE!!! I caught 23 fish...top 5 went 28.5lbs. Had a 8, 7, and a 6! Fishing creek bends next to grass flats with 12" worms. I see if I can post some pics.
  22. The next rule will be to have a 1 page apology written to every fish caught and read it to them before release. I think this is just crazy. Im all for keep fish alive, but a fish touching carpet or clothing is not gonna kill it.
  23. Im heading up there at 3 today and fishing till tomorrow around noon. Look for a Black/White/Red BassCat Puma w/250 ProXs around Housen/Six Mile. Good luck everybody, hoping the big moon helps out the bite!
  24. I'll admit, Im nowhere near the Toledo expert Catt is, so listen to what he says . Most of my success on Toledo is on "spots", not stretches, although there are a few good stretches in Housen I like to fish. I just look for the active fish, then move. I may hit 30 spots in a day, sooner or later Im going to find a spot that is holding active fish.
  25. I have anchored a few times when Im on big schools of fish, but the majority of the time Im on the TM. BUT, I like to fish fast, heck I even fish a jig or t-rig fast by putting on a 3/4 oz jig or 1/2 oz weight on my t-rig. Alot of people say go as light as you can get away with, which works well, but I have found that many times the faster fall rate creates a reaction bite. Plus I can make more casts in day...more cast=more bites...at least in my mind.
