  1. The reason people use 65lb braid with a 12lb leader is number one, because of line diameter, not lb test, and number two, the bigger the line diameter of the braid, the less digging it will do.
  2. Dont listen to some who say this rig doesnt work...I promise you I have had days that the A-Rig absolute murdered the fish! Im pretty sure Paul Elias had one or two days like that too. I caught over 300 fish in a evening on the A-Rig. I buy the Venom lures model for tournaments and the BOSS compact for just messing around. I use RI Little Dippers for the baits on 1/8oz jigheads.
  3. Louisiana LMB fishing is just ridiculous. I have already had numerous days of over 100 fish this year including one day of 300+ by myself. I have had a 5 fish bag that weighed in just short of 35lbs. There is a body of water every 20 minutes and they are all full of bass! Look at where the Elite series is going...Red River, LA Delta, Toledo Bend. I would argue that Toledo Bend is the best bass fishing lake in America. You can also drive down to Venice or Grand Isle and catch a 100 fish limit of Specs and 20 redfish on any given day. Oh, and go a little further into the gulf and catch Dolphin fish and Tuna. And if noodling is your thing, come on! I know quite a few places that you can get your hands on a GIANT catfish lol.
  4. Its according to what cover your throwing them in too. For open water shallow cranks, a 7' M/M would werve you well but if your looking at throwing shallow cranks around wood or grass, I would opt for something more powerful such as a M/F or a MH/MF
  5. To me, 15lb test will work with both, but isnt ideal for either. For a fluke I like 10-12lb floro. The floro sinks, with helps the fluke get down quicker and the small diameter line allows the fluke a more natural action. For frogs I prefer 65lb braid. With braid you get an instant hookset and no stretch therefore a much better hook up ratio
  6. I have both. I have a Savvy 734C and a Powell Endurance 714C. I would recommend the Powell over the Savvy simply because of the tip. The tip on the Powell just seems to be a little faster than the Savvy. The Powell is also slightly more sensitive in my hands.
  7. The Veritas Winch series are nice rods. I would also suggest looking into the Powell rods. They have a 705cb Glass Deisel for 69/99 and Max rods for 139.99.
  8. The hype has died down due to people finding out that these wont catch a five fish limit every cast in a mud puddle, but they are going to get hot again in a couple of months. When they were introduced, the talk was how unfair it was to the fish for anglers to use these...after throwing one all summer, I have come to the conclusion that it is unfair to the angler to use these. THey take a toll on you, thats for sure! The hype has dewindled, but the rig will still produce!
  9. They run that special because they are only worth about $100 a peice if that. I hated my Magnesiums and got rid of them all. Stick with Powell. Much better balanced rod, better sensitivity, and better durablitity.
  10. I would stay away from it. There are ALOT better options in your price range. The MagTouch, although I have never fished one but I have handled them quite a bit, feel terrible in my hands. The grip is so small in diameter it feels like your holding the rod above the cork on other rods. The concept sounds good, but they feel terrible. Look at the Veritas or Falcon Buccos for that price. Both are great rods and would blow the MagTouch out of the water!
  11. I like a M/F for weightless plastics and wacky worms. I also use a M/XF for jerkbaits. Everything else is used on a MH or H besides trebles.
  12. Yozuri is a great line in any color. Florocarbon is more abrasion resistant and does have less stretch. It is a denser line than mono therefore it transfers vibrations better than mono. I was skeptical at first, but I now only have mono on my 3 cranking rods and floro on about 10 rods. Lower lb test floro has more stretch than higher lb test. I would also recommend looking at Sunline Sniper florocarbon. Its reasonably priced and performed better for me than Trilene 100% and Invizx.
  13. I live in cental LA, so I fish the same stuff you do. Out of all the rods you have listed, I would opt for the Carbonlite. I own two Vendettas (got one last week at Academy for $39.99 lol) and a Carbonlite and the Carbonlite is flat out a better rod. If I were you I would buy one H/F for your frogs and pitching and a MH/F for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, ect.
  14. A Powell 703CB Glass can handle most all cranbaits from squarebills to 6xds. I also use it for traps around sparse grass too! Its a great rod that is pretty versitale. That being said, I own 4 cranking rods. One for squarebills, one for traps, one for medium depths, and one for deep divers.
  15. They have some major sales going on right now. Vendettas $39.99 Falcon Lowrider: $69.99 Falcon Cara: $97.67 Plus anything that ends in 88 cents is an additional 30% off!
  16. Powell 714C Phenix Recon 764 St Croix Avid 7' MH/F Falcon Cara 6'10" finesse jig rod Falcon Cara 7' H Also use my IRod Genesis II Alabama rig special for punching+ Shimano Cumara 7'2" M/XF for plastics
  17. I use a 7' M/XF Shimano Crucial (old style). It works great. Gives plenty of action to the bait and flexes enough to protect the hooks.
  18. Do yourself a favor and get the Powell endurance 714C. Its 7'1" H powered rod that is sick...can double over to cover a wide variety of techniques. I own this rod as well as a Croix Avid 7' MH/F, Dobyns Savvy 734c, and Phenix Recon 764. The powell is the most versital. It can do anything!
  19. The Missle D-Bomb is by far my favorite beaver! I hated a beaver because it just looked stupid to me. No action and very little glide to it. Then I found the D-Bomb. The ridges hold air bubbles, which allow it to glide better and release bubbles and the tail is very thin and it moves alot more than a RI's tail.
  20. Phenix Recons and Powell Endurance. You simply CANNOT beat these 2 rods in that price range, this coming from a man that owns a Dobyns Savvy, Shimano Crucial and Cumara, and a St. Croix Avid. The Powell and Phenix are a notch above the rest.
  21. I havent heard from Catt...hope all is well. I've been busy, so I havent been able to make my way up to the bend. Just had my first baby boy last night at 6:32, 7lbs 9oz! Now I have a fishing partner for years to come
  22. Bring the mettle back and they will give u a new one for free
  23. With the mettle, three pins engaged is pretty universal. You can still cast a mile and backlashes are minimal. Make sure you have your spool tension set right also. I wouldnt mess with it. Just go fishing and see how it does!
  24. I throw a lipless crankbait from late fall through the spawn. Between the post-spawn and fall, I almost exclusivly throw a lipped crankbait. Reason being, late fall through the spawn, it seems the fish hang around grass more often than not and the lipless is king around grass. Let the bait tick the top of the top of the grass and rip it free to get reaction strikes. Once the spawn is over, fish tend to move deep, looking for breaklines rather than cover. I feel a lipped crankait dredging straight down cover these structures better because if Im working a ledge from 10 feet dropping to 20 feet, a lipped crankbait (6XD) will dredge in 10 feet and once it goes over the ledge, it immediately dives down the ledge, whereas a lipless will continue to pull at 10 feet unless you make it fall.
