  1. Sam, Wasn't using any trailer hooks this morning but I think next time out, possibly try Henricus tomorrow or next week sometime. Thanks again.
  2. Thanks Sam! Is it free to get in to Henricus? Parking? I actually caught my first bass using buzzbait this morning at Swift Creek Resevoir, pretty sweet catching something on topwater. Wasn't the biggest fish in the world, but I was pretty stoked. Thanks again Sam
  3. Went to PP this morning with the wife (and our Dog), didn't get to do really any fishing as my 24lb Boston Terrier wanted to follow me around, and not being a big dog I had to keep him on the leash. Oh well!
  4. Thanks Arm! Will I have better luck there versus Pony Pasture? I'm bringing my wife along with me, hopefully there will be some rocks like at PP/Belle for her to layout and read a book.
  5. I have read online about the Hugenot Flatwater and have found a map of the area. Is there parking available? Looking for calm areas to wade into and fish...other than my spot at PP.
  6. I've got some 2 inch white grubs but didn't even try them this morning, I'll need to grab some of those twin tails. Not really sure if where I was fishing was a good area or not but I am thinking about heading out again tomorrow morning, hopefully a bit earlier and be more prepared for wading in the water (mandals instead of my flip flops, packing more light and bringing a towel ) Anyone know of the area I'm talking about? I parked at Pony pasture and walked up the road right before it got to all of the "private grounds" areas across from the homes/neighborhoods. Walked down a "cliff"...
  7. Thanks Simon...i'll give that a try next time I head there.
  8. Well I went down to Pony Pasture this morning (around 10am) and walked North up river till I found a decent little area for just standing in the water (about shin/knee deep) I didn't get anything nor really any good hits/bites, could have been poor timing, location, bait, or just skill Used Senko worms that I whacky rigged, and even did a little buzz bait topwater as I had never fished the river before. Even without catching a darn thing, I had a blast just keeping cool in the water and working on my summer tan. Might head back out this week as long as I get my "Husband Chores" done, the only perk to being a teacher are summers off
  9. Can anyone recommend any areas on the James that are safe to either just stand in (no waders) or just stand on the rocks? Won't be fly fishing as I'm not even that strong of a reel fisher yet but I have tomorrow to myself as my wife is going out for the day. Just looking for a relaxing day, looking for an area with decent parking to have a little fun. Suggestions? I'm in Chesterfield so I really don't want to drive too far, that Maidens Landing area could be interesting, and I've never tried fishing at Pony Pasture, always thought the current was a bit much to catch anything but I'm probably wrong. Thanks ~Jim
  10. To my Kayakers.... Decent kayak? used for $200.00 http://www.riverriders.com/perceptionsparky95.htm
  11. Thanks guys! I'll continue looking
  12. Now my buddy has me re-thinking it, he's telling me to just get a kayak. Suggestions?!?!?
  13. Well since a boat is out of the question right now with a baby coming into the family this November and I really want to stop fishing from the short at Swift Creek Resevoir and I want to get out in the UPPER James River my wife has said she was alright with the idea of me getting. Fish Cat Streamer XL http://images.cabelas.com/is/image/cabelas/s7_319534_imageset_01?$main-Medium$ $400 bucks off of Craigslist, includes a bag of some sort and a pump. Should meet my needs, sure I'll look lame but it could be fun. Would ya'll trust this in the upper James area? Hugenot area (my buddy canoes up there and said it's calm)
  14. Well my wife has agreed to letting me get it, but I've made the promise that if it sits and I don't use it, or it just doesn't work well for me that I will sell it. Picking it up on Friday, will get out Sunday evening in it!
  15. It's similar to the Madison, just a different company and all that good stuff. I've read reviews about the Streamer and it gets great ones! To me it seems best for my situation as the place I like to fish really doesn't have too many areas to drop in a boat, plus it seems easy enough to throw in the back of my Durango without dealing with the mess of trailers and what not. How bad is it rowing? The Streamer comes with a anchor setup and a spot for a trolling motor. I would think that if it stinks, or I'm not a fan I could easily sell it for what I'm paying for it....I would hope.
  16. I live in Virginia, have yet to see a snake where I fish but you never know....I just really really dislike snakes. There is a local seller selling an older version apparently (Black/Green colored?) which hasn't been used for $400.00 I'm all for it, the wife isn't much of a fan of something that is inflatable yet she won't let me spend the $$ on a boat....Oh well.
  17. Does anyone know how high these things sit off the water? I'm worried about snakes!!!! Best way to pump it up?
  18. Anyone ever try out or have seen the Fish Cat Streamer from Cabela's? Looking for something fairly inexpensive but that will last, and easy to transport/store. Would be fishing ponds and a local resevoir. Any suggestions? comments? experiences? ease of use? Thanks in advance!

I'm thinking of getting either a Kayak or a Canoe as those are the two things that my wife MIGHT even consider me getting. Getting either of them ontop of a Dodge Durango might be an issue.
  21. That's awesome! I grew up in Burke and used to bike down to Accotink all the time. My wife is due with our first child in November, we are having a boy and I can't wait till he's old enough to go fishing with me. Hopefully by then my wife will let me buy a boat
  22. Thanks guys. I was at Lucks Lane last night and caught three small bass, nothing special. I'm dragging my pregnant wife out tonight with me if the rain passes.
  23. Thanks Sam! So far I've done the Reservoir and made my way over to the pond at Lucks Lane the other evening, had some success. I've done the Google Map thing and made my way out the other day. Gregory's Pond I couldn't find access to, whether it be in the neighborhood part or through Rockwood Park. Suggestions? Thanks again Sam!
  24. Any local pond fisherman here in Chesterfield, VA? I'm a High School teacher and am off for the summer, looking to meet up with some locals. Looking to gain knowledge from more experienced fisherman out there.
