  1. I use a Uni Knot for line to line and everything else too.
  2. I am thinking of getting a GLX version to use for unweighted plastics and 3/8oz weighted plastics and 3/8oz and under jigs. Is the BCR853C the rod I am looking for? I just got a MBR844C IMX but I don't think it's what I am looking for as far as using lighter weight jigs and plastics.
  3. Good looking Bass!
  4. I agree with the others. If your brakes are disengaged and they engage when you cast, you got some pretty quick wrist movement going on.
  5. I have read on this site that the Lamiglas SR705R is the rod to get when using a DDCB. I am saving up for a 705 but not the SR. http://www.lamiglas.com/prod_indiv.php?groupid=34
  6. I thought about small cranks. What about top water? I had a Curado 50e on it but at the moment it has a vintage Shimano 10xSG on it.
  7. I have a 6'6" Medium Light-Fast , Line Wt 6-15#, Lure Wt 1/8-5/8oz Casting Rod I bought this a while back before I really knew the importance of line weight, lure weight, action etc. It is basically a sit in the corner rod that doesn't get a whole lot of use. My question is what is the ideal use for this rod?
  8. Adjust you reel so that line does not come out easily when you press the button. As you get better, you can loosen it up a bit. Shimano says that if your backlashes occur in the beginning of the cast, you need to adjust your magnets of whatever you have. If the backlash occurs at the end of the cast, you can just use your cast control knob to to slow the spool down.
  9. Looks like you had a great time. Is that a Gheenoe? I wish that I had not of sold mine.
  10. I have been to 2 BPS's. Orlando and Ft. Meyers. I too felt like a kid in a candy store.
  11. I have two 6' rods and I throw weighted and un-weighted worms, jigs, spinnerbaits and crankbaits.
  12. Thanks for the reply's. I ended up getting a new Calcutta 100B and I put it on a Loomis MBR 844C. I like this one so much that my next reel will be a Calcutta 50B.
  13. I cast with one hand when fishing with my rods that are 6' 6" and under and two hands with my 7 footer.
  14. I do all of my fishing from shore and I'll bet that I have never landed more than 3 bass of any size in a one day period. I have been fishing for bass on and off since I was 12 and I am 41 now.
  15. WOW! I have never seen a lure that costs that much. Those will definitely not be finding their way into my tackle box anytime soon. If I had the cash, yes they would. My first thought was that you have to be crazy to buy those but when I think about it, those expensive lures are no different than a target archer spending $500.00 on a dozen arrows.
  16. What is a $100.00 lure?
  17. Is the TE model $150.00 better than the regular B model and would the 100 series of either model be effective in serving double duty for bass in freshwater and speckled trout, redfish and snook in salt water. Actually, in salt water, you never know what you might hook so the same question for the 200 series Calcutta. Thanks
  18. I am left handed and I reel right handed with spinning and baitcasting. Always have done it that way.
  19. I fish from shore and a while back, I had a 6-7' female gator (I think it was a female) come out of the water right where I was fishing because she wanted the bass that I almost landed. This gator has no fear at all of me and if I thought that I could get away with it, I wouldn't hesitate to put an arrow in her head.
  20. It taught me to not take apart one of these reels. I've read in this forum that you should clean a new Shimano reel of excess grease when you get it in order to obtain better performance but there is no way that I would personally do it. I have learned my lesson. LOL
  21. I too have a fear of taking a reel apart. My first baitcaster was a Shimano Bantam Mag Plus 250SG. It was the early 80's and I think that I was about 12 years old. I took that bad boy apart and I couldn't put it back together to save my life. I was scared to death to tell my dad about what I had done. I finally broke down and told him. He refused to put it back together for me and my mom had to drive me uptown to a fishing store and I paid that guy $9.00 to put it back together for me. LOL Good luck with your reel. John
  22. I don't care much for the pistol grips either. The GLoomis that I had, had a really short straight grip. Much more comfortable than a pistol grip IMHO. I am surprised that short rods still have a following. John
  23. I do. I have 2 early 80's Fenwick Eagle Graphites, an early 90's Ugly Stick and an early 90's Lightning Rod. I had a 5'6" Gloomis but I sold it. I am thinking of buying another Gloomis 5'6" rod.
