  1. Harder on hooksets with just Curado's?BTW, Where is this pawl? I looked on my 50E schematc and it's #4184 but I can't see a #4184 anywhere.
  2. x3. I will add that if you are really worried about it, ask plenty of questions and make sure there is a return policy and always pay by using PayPal.
  3. Nice move on your part baluga! I wish Shimano had done the same with the 50E. In fact, the plastic drag star is my only complaint with my 50E.
  4. I have thought about getting a CF ZPI handle for my Calais 100A. Not for looks but for length. The handle on the 100A is a little short. Tackle Tour says the handle on the Antares AR is 70mm. I am assuming the Calais 100A handle length is the same as the AR. They upgraded to a 80mm ZPI handle. Japan Tackle has 85mm handles in stock. Darn shame they are so pricey.
  5. I'll bet an arrow saw would be great for cutting a blank. Mine goes through carbon and aluminum arrow shafts with no problems.
  6. Here is Tackle Tour's review on the Antares DC7. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewantaresdc7.html And this guy loves his DC7
  7. I just weighed a weightless Fluke w/a 4/0 EWG Gamakatsu hook and it weighed just under 5/16oz. My Curado 50E will easily throw that as will my Calcutta 100B. That is using a heavy action rod too. The rod that I eventually want to get for the light stuff is a Loomis BCR803. You can get the Mosseyback model on ebay for just over 200.00 shipped or the GLX model for 300.00 shipped. Get the 50E for around 100.00 and you have a great outfit.
  8. Probably a Mossyback for that price.
  9. BassHole, I don't know anything about at all about your set-up. Mine is... GLoomis MBR844C-IMX H-F Shimano Calais 100A, I just bought the reel off of EBAY. When it get's here, it will go on the rod. 50# Suffix 832
  10. Jeb, I don't know if I want a BCR853 or a BCR803. I have read what you and others have to say about the BCR 803GLX and I think that it might be the rod that I have been looking for. John
  11. A BCR853 is on my want list. $200.00 for a GLX BCR853, I would get it in a heartbeat.
  12. I just checked my 50E and I do have to crank my cast control knob down a good ways to get any tension. I have 2 brakes on and 4 off with about 3/8oz tied on. I never have thought anything was wrong before and I still don't.
  13. Post #19 was J Francho's....not mine. I have never fished with a Smoke but I have handled one at my local Dick's. My first impressions was that it was a sweet reel. Great looking and smooth.
  14. I have read this before about the Smoke. Post #19
  15. Sounds to me like she doesn't want to go fishin at all so why bother!
  16. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from that guy. I couldn't care less if every word in the description was misspeled or not. The guy has great feedback and to me, that is all that matters.
  17. I fish from shore all the time. Most days I catch nothing. The last bass I caught was over a week ago. My problem is that I don't like to explore and find new places. I will stay in the same vicinity for hours catching nothing. I also have the latest high tech rods and all that crap and I still catch nothing most days. It's all about location. Funny story and very true. A few months back I get to my usual spot where I know that will probably not catch anything and I've got a GLoomis rod and a Shimano baitcaster and I haven't caught jack........This guy shows up and he starts fishing and the usual conversation starts up. He ask me if Iv'e caught anything and I say no and then I find out that he has caught a few. In fact he wants me to take a pic of him posing with his biggest. So we go over to his car and he opens the cooler and I am like d**n man, where did catch all these at. The dude had a cooler full of LMB. They were gonna have a fish fry today is what he told me. He said that he caught all these in "neighborhood ponds". He had a junky little Walmart special spinnging outfit and the only lure that he was using was a little countdown black on gold Rapala. I think it was a CD9. It's all about location.
  18. If price didn't matter for me and I could get a new rig right now, I would get a GLoomis BCR893 GLX (Senko Rod) and a Shimano Calais 100A. I would use it for un-weighted worms, soft jerkbaits, very light jigs and very light weighted worms.
  19. I plan on sending my 50E in to DVT this winter for a bearing upgrade and whatever else that will make it a better reel. I am happy now for the most part but I think that I should be getting more distance. Also, watching youtube videos of guys spinning their spools in freespool and the spool spins for what seems like forever makes me think mine is definitley slower that it should be.
  20. I have used 50# Power Pro on my 50E with no problems and right now I have 14# original Stren on it and I cast a 1/2oz Texas rigged worm with no problems.
