  1. not to insult you, but make sure the vent's on the fuel tanks are open. I did it once so I know it can happen.
  2. check on boston Whalers web site, they may have a few accessories that will work for it. you can always add a casting deck on the front of the boat, an 18' boston whaler is a heavy boat but very stable. don't look to set any speed records but it won't sink either. I think the price you got it for is pretty good if the motor is sound.
  3. 2000 sprint 221 pro, Merc 225 EFI, 12"j/p,trophy 25P. 72 gps on smooth water, 75 gps w/light chop, 75 on small white caps. fully loaded and fueled
  4. saw a new nitro at bass pro the other day, it had more or less a center console with the steering on the left. I must say, that was one cool looking boat.
  5. a couple of things to think about: 1: how deep are you skinning the hook point when rigging up? if too deep it can make hook sets harder. 2: What size hook are you using? too small of a hook or the wrong kind can make them hard as well.
  6. I've got an 82lb digital pulling my 21' sprint around and I don't notice a difference in pedal stiffness at any speed including high. it is very easy to steer under any condition. actually, I think it's too easy.
  7. what you have is called "blow-out", it can be caused by a couple of different issues. it can be caused by having the motor set too high on the jackplate or if you have a prop with the PVS plugs in it, you can have too many out or the wrong sizes in. need some more info on your exact setup. kind and size of prop, motor size, height of prop center line in relation to pad on boat. actually there is a third issue, you could be spinning the hub in the prop, if this it should show by running at mid throttle and goosing it. if it slipping you should see a sudden rise in the rpms.
  8. actually, that is probably pretty good. it might even be better a little heavier (around 200). if you get it too tail heavy it will be very hard to tow and will wander all over the road behind the truck and cause major swaying.
  9. I've had the best luck keeping the boat a good distance from the rip-rap and throwing a deep running crank bait right up to the rocks then cranking it out 90* from the rap. I know it's not in the strike zone that long but it seems the fish are waiting for the bait fish to be banged on the rocks and knocked silly which are easier to catch. to each his own but it works for me.
  10. Hey there, I just picked up my sprint 210 pro today, it's a 2000 model with a Merc 225 on it. I haven't used it yet for fishing but it is sure nice. We took it out for a ride before I bought it and it rode great in rough water. if you need anything specific ask and I'll try to answer.
  11. I've done my share of light gauge aluminum tigging and I'll say this, if he's just learning, DON'T let him learn on your boat. there is some skill and alot of art to welding light gauge al. and as already stated, if it's not done just right you just end up chasing the whole thing. I would explore every other option before even taking it to a certified welder if I were you. BE CAREFULL, sometimes free help aint FREE !!!!
  12. Welcome to the board 8-), also, where are you at, I may have just the ticket for you.
  13. Hey guys, just had to say YEE-HAW, just bought a new used boat. it's a 2000 Sprint 21' Pro , Merc 225 EFI, motorguide tour 82lb digital, Garmin 178C GPS/Sonar, Garmin 250, Tandem axle trailer,Custom cover, all the bells and whistles. an absolutely beautiful boat, the owner says 72 mph on gps. Now I can't wait to go pick it up next week.
  14. I agree with LBH, some docs are quick with the pain killers but you have to remember, the pain is there to remind you that your injured and need to take it easy to heal. if you keep masking the pain you'll soon forget your hurt and do some major damage. I don't blame you for wanting to keep fishing, just go easy on the elbow for a while.
  15. it's my understanding that alot of the newer fuel injected motors have an hour meter built into the computer for the injectors, this is only readable from a laptop that connects to the control computer, this helps the manufacturer figure out just how many hours are on a motor for warranty work.
  16. Hey there, I have a Carolina Skiff J-14 with a new merc. 9.9, it has the optional casting deck and the storage seat in it, it also has a 12v battery for the trolling motor. with just me,1 tackle bag and a few rods and real it won't even plane. it's a real pig in the water, I have tried different trim angles, moving the load around and it just won't get on plane. Now that said, it is a super stable boat when fishing but kind of tight for two people to fish out of.
  17. I've also heard lots of bad stories about the Opti motors, it seems like a 50/50 chance of getting a good motor. there are quite a few in our club and about half of them have had lots of trouble with them, I think the ignition systems on them are the main issue (very expensive). the "black motor" people do make some really nice models in addition to the opti. just stay away from that particular model.
  18. I don't see any reason that wouldn't work well, I would think about going to larger wheels and tires if you are pulling it a long distance or at interstate speeds, those little tires are hell on bearings at that speed.
  19. it could also be that the motor is too short for the boat, it makes sense that as the boat gets faster a shorter motor will not keep the prop in the water correctly, it also makes sense that with an extra person in the boat the added weight keeps the boat a little deeper in the water so it's not as noticeable. I have seen this happen when people get new boats and try to re-use a motor from they're old boat. there is a "sweet" spot for the right depth of the motor and prop for each boat. that's part of what a jacking plate does. it could also be a combination of everything mentioned in the previous posts.
  20. Hey guys, I have a friend that invited me to a small club tournament next weekend. I have been fishing a couple of times in the last two weeks and have only had one bite, I don't want to be dead weight in the boat and need some advice and suggestions on how to catch these dang fish. I have tried every thing I know (which aint much) and havn't hooked anything. thanks,
